Is Mepham really worth £10m+? He has played 21 games for a team in the 2nd tier. Transfer fees are obscene these days.

It's a lot, what would 10m or more get you a few years ago?

However he's young athletic and British. Brentford have already rejected 8m from us in Jan, when he'd only played half a dozen games. We've identified him very early somehow, and they clearly also value him as big potential. Selling Afobe and Grabban means all the Champ knows we have some spending money.

If we did agree something, his wages would be lower than someone more proven.

Aye people forgot that a young player will be on peanuts for wages so won’t demand a huge wedge when they move. That means clubs can afford to push the boat out more on the transfer fee.

Villa want Dan Burn to replace John Terry. Now that’s a sentence I never thought I’d be saying. Testament to how he’s turned his career around from his first few months with us.

Strange. Was wank in the Championship, then good once you got relegated. Almost as if League One is far easier
I think Steve Bruce is a better judge of a player than Tom, 23, from Preston. ;)

These Dan Burn reports are from The Sun and HITC to be fair.

We've been linked to Jordan Jones from Kilmarnock again, can't see us trying to sign another winger, so think that is tabloid crap as well.

Keiffer Moore and Callum Connolly still our main targets supposedly, although Tom Lockyer from Bristol Rovers is meant to be an option if we miss out on Connolly.

Wouldn't mind Connolly at Wednesday.

We have him a 5 year deal before he’d ever played any Championship games, someone the club rates really highly.

Easily our best defender last year, will be interesting to see how much we value him at. I can see him going, Konsa looks like we’ve got a replacement in early. £12m with some add ons would do it I reckon

Norwich accepted £25m for Maddison. Makes Villa's £40m price tag on Villa look even more comical.

Pushes the prices up for every other player in the league. Good news in my book.

Everything changed when he put on the quarters

Agreed would love Watkins to go for £15M + this time next season :£:£
Wouldn’t be surprised if he went for £15m this window tbh - hope we keep hold of him for another year though

Moore is also a Millwall target. The sort of player we should be looking at -- young, but more importantly cheap and realistic -- but didn't exactly pull up any trees at Barnsley. Would prefer Bradshaw.

Watkins and Mephem for 25m+ lol. We got Jota and Neves for that.
And Mepham and Watkins cost us £1.7m combined...?

People will pay what people will pay

Though would you have got Jota and Nevas at all, let alone for that, on the open competitive market? Is it a fair comparison?

If multiple PL clubs are lining up to make bids on these players, Brentford will be able to virtually name their price. Same with Norwich and Maddison. And why not, if Brentford (or Norwich) can take advantage of the silly money in the top flight then good luck to them I say. It may as well filter down somehow, as no doubt they would use some to buy up the next batch of players.

Millwall want Matt Smith. I hope we don't sell him as he was very good for us last year, got some vital goals and gives us a plan B. No idea if he is part of McClarens vision though.

We’ve been linked to him for what feels like decades. He’d be perfect for us, imo.

We paid what anyone else would have paid for Neves and Jota. Mendes advised us that the players were available, he can't ask Porto or Madrid to knock a few million off the transfer fees.

I think you (your club, not specifically yourself) overestimate your players a bit too much. Agreed on the basis of you can charge what you want if someone wants one of your players, but then you run the risk of pricing them out of a move and potentially have an unhappy player on your hands. Mepham and Watkins certainly aren't worth what you're asking from them. That Maguire from Preston looks twice the player that Watkins is, I wonder how much it would take for Preston to sell him.

Depends what you're looking for, Bradshaw is in the Sean Maguire mould but not as good so a pointless signing for us.

We need a more physical option, whereas you already have Gregory and Morrison. Mentioned it before but Moore had 16 starts, 4 goals and 4 assists for Barnsley, decent on paper.

You sign Bradshaw, we'll sign Moore. Sorted.

Three separate Championship clubs have had bids rejected for Moore, seems he has a £1m release clause though according to the papers round there.

Rotherham, Millwall & PNE in for him?

Moore isn't a bad player, if we needed a big striker I'd have him here. Won't cost much either I don't reckon.

Think Henderson will sign here on loan this week. If there's no view to a permanent I won't be impressed with that one.

We’re a team that has finished in the Top 10 in this league four years running. Time for other teams to stop assuming our players aren’t as good as others becasue we’re little old Brentford.

I like Maguire a lot, but Watkins is something else. He’s also younger and English, which rightly or wrongly puts the price up.

I think our net spend over the past few years shows just how good we are at valueing players.

And got to agree with Mark there, there’s no way any other club was getting those players for those fees, or would be able to defer the payments for so many until you got promoted. Your view there is incredibly nieve.

Yes the almighty Jorge Mendes has the power to reduce transfer fees. Shame he isn't Neymar's agent he could have saved PSG around £50m by that logic. He is an adviser to our owners, he isn't employed at any capacity by the club or at any club.
