Lots of money off the wage bill though right?

Carson's wages won't be a massive problem. We picked him up when he was fighting for a place at Wigan when they get relegated. Not saying he'll be cheap, as he's been given a contract since then, but he'll be towards the mid-top range - not the top.

The worry is, as a player, he's our most influential. It's not just that he's exceptional at keeping the ball out of the net, but there's no ready made backup. Any sale would have to make sense based on the replacement we can bring in. Not easy.

I'd piggyback Vydra to Leeds before I see Carson leave, personally.

Carson was on a huge wage with us, we had one of the biggest wage bills the season we went down first time and were one of the biggest spenders. You're looking at 30k plus a week. We were bookies favourites for promotion that season which shows how much of a shambles we were.

Carson was shite for us, anything not straight at him just went in. He went about 10 games in a row without saving a shot on goal. To be fair though he didnt look like he was trying so might explain why he is doing well at Derby. In fact a lot of players didnt try that season after the huge bust up with management, followed by the Mackay fiasco after.

Unfortunately probably means Jozefzoon is off, but seems like a promising signing!
I'd hope not, as I think he was one of our better players last season, but can understand why it might be best for both parties if he moves on. This is our last chance to get any money for him and a good chance for him to earn a better wage.

That said, I have it on good authority that there might be a bit of a change in where/which positron existing personnel play this season. That may allow him to stay if we can get a contract agreed with him.

The season we went down we were the favourite to win promotion too. I bet Sunderland weren't far off being favourites this season. Seems more of a curse than anything.

I know one player who tried for us that season. He’s just scored in a World Cup quarter final. Absolutely mental how we went down with him in defence. That’s what happens when Marc Antoine Fortune and James McClean are your only attacking options!

Our player of the year for the past 3 seasons. Can't begrudge him moving on but surely he's got more ambition that blues

Worth far more than £3m to us considering staying up has got to be worth more than £3m and he’d be a huge part in keeping us up/move us forward

Ipswich are one of the most nondescript clubs in the entire Football League, so of course he is going to be interested. Better manager, better players, better fan base, etc.

I wouldn’t call Monk a better manager than Paul Hurst to be honest.

Better fan base? :pmsl:
Yes we’re having a stale patch but nondescript? Christ. And that includes the last 5 above your lot.
Backward step. Money talks if he moves to you lot

£3m will be a bit of a suckerpunch but it's pretty clear to most by now that he's not going to be signing a contract extension which was supposedly agreed back in January.

Better to get £3m for him now than let him walk for free next summer.

Irrespective, he can and most probably will find a better better suitor than fucking Birmingham City.

We finished 7 places and 14 points above you last season and I also think many would Brum fans would prefer Hurst to Monk.

I imagine if Brum have a £3m bid accepted other far more attractive teams will enter the fray for him. He also wants Premier League football and at 31, moving to Brum probably isn't in his best interests to achieve that. Aside from a more lucrative contract, it's not a move I can see him being excited enough about to uproot his family from the area.

Frederico Venancio won't be rejoining us, he's signed a new deal with Vitoria. It either suggests that Jos is happy with what he has seen from the likes of Van Aken, he has other targets lined up or we really can't spend a penny this summer. With the departure of Hunt the defence really could do with a bit of work.

Bolton want Liam Palmer so at least there's some good news.

Tyrone Mings being linked with Nottm Forest now. I would imagine a loan, would be very surprised if we considered selling Mings. His issue is fitness, he can never stay fit for more than half a dozen or so games, but when he plays he looks decent, and has far too much potential for us to give up on him. I think a loan would be a good idea both all parties.

Since his knee reconstruction he tends to play left centre back in either a two or a three, rather than left back as he mostly did at Ipswich. Left of a back 3 particularly suits him for me.

We've turned down a £2.75m bid from Birmingham City for Bart.

Looks like we won't have to fend off an improved bid from them for now..

Birmingham City’s pursuit of Blues keeper Bartosz Bialkowski looks to have come to an abrupt end - for the moment at least - with the Midlanders reportedly having been hit by a Financial Fair Play transfer embargo.

Reckon us and possibly Derby might go back in for Kieftenbeld and take advantage of their situation. I hope so anyway.

We had a ball and chain around our ankle for the majority of last season and still averaged 5k more at home than Ipswich. The difference between the support of Birmingham & Ipswich was evident during that League Cup semi final in 2001.

Stockdale favoured a better salary at Birmingham over Premier League football with Brighton. Dean, Jota & Colin were happy to leave Brentford for a sideways move (but better salary) at Birmingham. Doubt Bialkowski has any ounce of loyalty to Ipswich, those days are long gone.

You will not find any sane Blues fan who would swap Monk for Paul Hurst  We’re in good hands with Monk & Clotet.

You'll struggle this season, especially given today's news. Feel free to quote. :hypo:

Please take him
He's good at this level I reckon, probably just needs a change of scenery. Just signed a new contract though so I'm wondering if he's on silly money.

I will never be able to take you seriously again, thinking we would prefer Hurst over Monk  But yeah, I will dig this quote up in time, if you haven’t removed it by then.

I think it's a fair comparison. Interesting viewpoint though, as I said, good luck.
