Getting Will Keane on loan, don't know much about him but he turned down Hull and Blackburn.

Don't think that's fair on McCarthy, tbh. For us he brought in some decent players.....Kightly, Jarvis, Neill Collins, Andy Keogh, Wardie, Vokes, Elokobi, Ebanks-Blake, Berra, David Jones.... there are more. While none of these may be world-beaters by any means, all played a role in promotions and some were with us into the PL. I would describe them as better than 'average' certainly.

Of course, MM has signed duds, but then so have most managers. However, I will agree that with MM, he never signed a lower league player who then came through to be brilliant and end up at the very top of the PL. But that seems quite rare now for any manager, given the absolute excess of cash that the biggest PL clubs can throw at young teenagers and their families. All divisions outside the PL (and probably the lower third of the PL itself) suffer from talent being locked up on the training grounds of Man U, Man City, Chelsea, Arsenal, etc.

What I mean is, how many went on and did better under a different manager? Not many in that list that's for sure.

Billy Davies made Dean Leacock into an unbelievably good CB and once he was sacked he never was the same again. Miles Addison, Lewin Nyatanga...etc

I'm not saying at that point in time they were not any good, just that McCarthy got absolutely every last drop of potential out them. He still does this brilliantly at Ipswich. Freddie Sears for example has smashed it since coming in, Leeds reject Noel Hunt even did a job. It's baffling.

He wanted to go to a bigger club, it seems.

More likely he has been told to get to fucking Preston after we backtracked over the Sam Johnstone deal and fucked them over again.

Yes, that I can agree with. It didn't occur to me until about a year ago that very few of our players get transferred for big bucks ever. The last really big ones were Lescott, Keane and arguably Jarvis (not including some of the big names that came in and then left in the PL).

I think that might change, given the successes of our academy in recent years, but even then many of our youngest players) have come in from elsewhere (Hause, Graham, Bancessi, etc).

We're being linked with an £8m bid for McGoldrick/McGoaldrought. No thanks, we already have better options.

Some of the transfer fees being touted in newspapers are simply laughable. 10m for Chris Martin, 8m for David McGoldrick, 8m for Sam Byram, 5m for Daryl Murphy, 10m for Patrick Roberts...

Freedman working miracles with this transfer embargo.

Darius Henderson (deemed not good enough by us 12 months ago and not good enough by L2 bound Leyton Orient this summer) is on the way back in it seems, with him currently out in Sweden with the rest of the squad.

Hearing this aswell, you can have him for that. I don't trust that knee despite his quality. Hope it goes through. Would like to see you miss out this season with the money you're spending. Not the way a football club should be run at this level, irresponsible.

Laughable, perhaps. But not fabricated. We turned down £7m for McGoldrick last season and he won't be going anywhere for less than that this time round. £5m for Murphy is also absolutely fine - it's above market value by a stretch, sure, but we don't want to sell under any circumstances, we're financially sound... and he's content, hence the inflated fee.

In other news, seems Murphy is off to Middlesbrough with talk they've met our £5m valuation. Don't know how I feel about this... I don't care about the argument that it's silly money... we don't need it, simple as that. If both him and McGoldrick go, add that to the £8m for Mings and we have around £21,000,000 to sign 2 strikers, a recognised RB, a backup LB and perhaps another midfielder. I could live with that, just hope McCarthy gets it right. Money is great but no player we buy is guaranteed to plug Murphys gap.

In Mick we trust.

Jem Karacan's transfer to Galatasaray now confirmed by the Turkish club.

Although known for a long time now, means we've lost our captain, vice-captain and player of the season from last year this Summer. 36 years at Reading between them. Certainly looking like a new squad next year.

Daryl Murphy seems to have been around forever and not actually been that prolific until this season.

He was fucking shit for Celtic. It's a mental amount of money for someone who seems to be the product of a system. Old too by striker standards.

it's not though is it, the way i see TRansfer fees is based on how valuable they are to their club, Mccormack wasn't worth 11 million in value, but to us he was, we tried keeping him but Fulham ended up coming with na price we couldn't refuse

if clubs want a player then pay what the holding club cannot refuse, if not then don't bother

£5 million for a 32 year old striker with more poor seasons that good ones is mental yes. If Ipswich have some younger targets lined up that they know they can bring in then for the money then surely it would make good football business sense to cash in?

28-32 is the physical peak of a footballers career. He's on the down slide now

If he hasn't made it clear that he wants to go to Boro then I'd still 100% prefer we keep hold of him. If he moves to a promotion rival I'd question the decision to sell irrespective of whether it's £3m or £6m.

Promotion next season makes £5m seem trivial and again, broken record but, we really really really do not need the money. Hence the 'mental' price tag we've put on his head.

Rotherham in for Lorenzo Davids (cousin of Edgar) who made I think one start and one sub appearance for us in League One and then disappeared off the face of the earth.

Us, Barnsley and MK Dons are in for Kyle Dempsey at Carlisle.

Reminds me of Pritchard, 11 in 53 last season is a goood return for a CM in his first season.

The Wednesday
Matias signed for a reputed 2.2m, scored 20 in 36 in the Portuguese top flight last season from the wing.

Re Will Keane, I liked him, a season long loan will suit him down to the ground, expect him to be involved a lot, get you 10 goals or so.

Dempsey is more of a box to box midfielder, Pritchard was much more of an attacking playmaker.

Would be surprised if Dempsey could replicate his fantastic form in the Championship, or get into the team of the year as Pritch did, but nonetheless will be a very good player.

We're going to miss Pritch a lot this coming year.
