Still no rumours on our side. Hoping we're back in for Sebastien Haller but I'm guessing the price would be too high for us. I really don't think we'd be in for RVLP, and I also think the Paterson link with Dean Smith from the Walsall days is probably just lazy journalism.

Recalled George Baldock from Oxford, like a new signing. Very happy.

Evans says we're down the line with two. Cellino says no more signings this window.

Deniss Rakels (Latvian striker/winger) set to be announced this afternoon.

Rather concerningly Brian McDermott has hinted that this is a signing made by the owners. Given our previous recent history of signings made by the owners i'm not too excited about this one. Could still turn out great (15 in 20 this season which is a far better record than Sa managed in that league and at a lower placed club) but always a risk that they won't fit the manager's' plans.

Ryan Shotton rumoured to be having a medical at Birmingham with a view to a loan until the end of the season.

Decent utility player but never going to start here.

In the most predictable move ever, Rotherham sign Chris Dawson after we let him go.

Any good or is the potential there?
Just never quite made it. Was always quite highly regarded but is very small so tricky really to throw him into centre mid in the Championship. Clearly got some technical talent but was never going to do it here as he had been on the fringes for years now. Played 45 mins or so 3 years ago but that's the only start from what I recall. Just came back from a bad injury too.

For the best for him to leave but no surprise to see Redfearn go in for him.

If 'decent' translates to 'terrible', then yeah.

Greg was a good player but I wouldn't have lost sleep over getting rid of him if we actually had a squad at the time. We didn't, hence why many thought the decision was ridiculous.

In the space of a couple of years, our front six had gone in League One from:

Snodgrass-Howson-Johnson-Gradel

Beckford-Becchio

to

Paul Green-Michael Tonge-Michael Brown-David Norris

Varney-Morison

Good times. In Warnock we trust.
And to think loads of our fans want him here!

That's harsh James, he's not terrible. I think he's good enough for this level for sure, he's good in the air, quick and physical which goes some way at this level. He's got a bit of Titus Bramble in him for sure though. The problem he has is he's not very good in one position for a sustained amount of games. He was more than adequate filling in at RB and CB for the odd game here and there but when he got a run in the side last year at CB he just wasn't consistently good enough and was a part in why we imploded so badly. Along with Keogh/Albentosa/Buxton too it must be said, nobody was blameless.

Can he play on the left side of defence?

I think he's filled in there for us a couple of times so yeah, I wouldn't want him there for long though. He's right footed so it's not ideal for him but he's happy slotting in anywhere.

Paolo Hurtado gone out on loan to Vitoria de Guimareaes. Barely played since he joined us.

And we've signed the earlier mentioned Rakels. 15 goals in the Ekstraklasa this season. About £400k cost.

No recall in Shotton loan. Brum paying all his wages.

Unless Rowett plans on playing him on the left side of defence, he's likely going to be back-up to Caddis and Morrison. I can't see either of them being dropped.

Oh and Howson, Gradel and Beckford had already been sold before Warnock got the job. The other 3 left for Premier League Norwich.
Preferred to play those strikers than McCormack on a regular basis and moaned that he had to pick McCormack sometimes because he was a 'fans favourite'. There's literally nothing I would get out of randomly saying how bad Warnock was here. I could list all of the downfalls but it would take me a long time. He may be ok on a 10 game contract sort of thing if allowed no transfer decisions but leave him to build a team over a couple of years and it will fail.

Of course our owners were shit at that time but Warnock still brought in a load of his old favourites aged 32 on lengthy contracts who weren't very good, alienated our better players in Becchio, McCormack and Lees, sent Barkley back to Everton as he couldn't break up that magical midfield duo, and was a total arsehole to boot.
