Jesus, are we going to get this Brizzle, Mansfield snoozefest every week?

Hopefully that’s the last of it; no need for them Rovers fans to bring it back up and hijack this thread, sometimes you’ve just gotta move on.

A frustrating evening. Another game where we had a hold on the first half and looked like the team to score first. Cue FGRs first chance of the game going in after 30 odd minutes and we went to shit and looked like we were hanging on a bit towards HT. I missed both our goal and the winner so can’t comment too much. But to concede so soon after equalising is unacceptable. Poor from Dale for most of the second half. Our keeper seemed to want to take a lot of time playing the ball out when chasing the game. Either that’s a hangover from BBM-ball being instilled in Lynch or Stockdale is telling him to do it. Either way it hindered us when obvious quick outlets weren’t utilised. It’s also clear we’re missing an experienced midfield general someone of the Gary Jones or Peter Cavanagh ilk. I’m not worried, yet, there’s clearly some talent in our squad. But keeping up a performance for 90 minutes and communicating with each other is alluding them at the moment. Credit to the FGR fans. Small in numbers but made some decent noise. FGR seem a big, physical side and the type that will do well in L2. The type of side we could be if we get our arse in gear.

Onwards to Northampton. An away day I’ve done loads of times, never enjoyed and always swear to not return…

Our manager was complimentary about you in his post-match, though I realise that's easy to do when you've won.
Our first was a lovely move looking at the highlights and Stevens finishes really well for the second. Great to see him starting like a train after being in and out of plans for so long.

I just remember lots of fans from lots of different clubs saying you were wrong

Seems a common theme.

Odd that fans from other clubs would agree with the mansfield fans about your views.

And yet, here you are, still fascinating over mansfield.

As joey would say, if you’ve a problem, hit your mrs
No they haven’t said anything about “my views”about 3 posters agreed with you that it was a red card. Also I had one or two agree with me, but who cares? It’s an opinion on a red card. Opinions differ, get over it.

Why do you think it’s acceptable to joke about beating women? You seem to take a morale high ground on the subject, but then you joke about it women being beaten.

Do you think that’s acceptable? What next, sexism? Racism?

There is no joke in it, which is why it’s so surprising your club has kept him, i’d be thoroughly embarrassed, but whatever works for your club i suppose.

The one thing you are right on is that it does need to move on, i’ll leave you be down there.

I agree on Barton, as I mentioned before we should have suspended him.

But to then joke about beating women and assuming fans beat their wives is unacceptable and you should be ashamed of yourself.

No excuses for our players being unfit. That’s something that needs addressed. It’s unacceptable.

You did look shattered after about 70 minutes to the point where I thought we might get something. However, you did put a massive amount of effort in pressing and winning second balls. In fairness, we are mega fit as a team and have recruited with good runners in mind. That'll stand us in good stead as the season progresses.

As with Tranmere on Saturday, I think all 3 teams lack that composure up front. If we finish above both teams I'd expect us to be top 7.

I'm not too worried at the moment. We've had a really tough set of fixtures to start the season, probably the toughest out of any team, and so I anticipated we'd start slowly whilst we're still gelling. I don't think this formation allows us to get enough control in the middle and we look a bit scrappy and disjointed, without a clear plan at times.

Really though we had enough chances in both games to be sitting on 6 points instead of two. Hit the woodwork 4 times in 2 games now, surely that will change at some point.

Whats your view on the new signings? So far Dan Jones looks outstanding, long through, great range of passing and solid enough, thought Walker looks decent, bigger version of Joyce with more of a presence.

Disappointed so far in Benning though.

We finally won last night!! Happy days. Oldham were really poor mind, sorry Oldham fans but I think you're going to be in real trouble this season. We should have won by more to be honest. We have a long way to go still with players to come back etc but that we much better than what we have seen before under Barton.

I’ve not watched/heard your managers post match interview but I’m not surprised. We’re doing a lot of stuff well. Players making decent runs each game, chances being created that would usually go in. I think it’ll click at some point in the next few games and we’ll put a few past someone. It’s annoying that for large spells of all 3 games this season we’ve had the upper hand and got a return of 1 point. Yesterday less annoying as FGR far better than Scunny or Harrogate. But not unthinkable that we should have another few points on the board by now. Oh well, marathon not a sprint and all that!

While I think you badly need to get over losing to them, you are right it is just blatant disgusting sexism. You can also come home from the game and beat your husband but I doubt these 21st century marvels have reached Mansfield yet.

This is why we used to have individual match threads until you lot came up with your new fangled single thread ideas.
I'm 50/50 with the idea. A single thread keeps it busy and encourages discussion so I can see why it's used. But on the other side of the coin I don't want to read pages upon pages of childish bickering or see endless pictures of valley parade etc. If I want to have a chat with Tranmere fans about last night's game it would be much easier on an individual match thread. That said it would he easier for the village imbecile to try and wind the Tranmere fans up with his nonsense on a single thread.

I get that some match threads will effectively have barely any comments on them but most of the clubs in this league bar Stevenage and Salford do have representation so can see logic behind going down that route.

.. Or if you are MSE jump innocent rival fans from behind after games then boast about it on social media. On a sheet hung from a washing line no less....
Classic Mansfield tinpottery.

Fair play on the calligraphy though, it's actually pretty difficult to get that style of graffiti-lettering with nice neat edges and varying spray widths without it going all over the place as you see on the sort of amateurish scrawlings that cover most underpasses. They have a real artist on their team.

To be fair despite the protests at the time (can't remember if Swinedune were in this division that season) it turned out to work well. Most of the pointless bickering that took place on individual match threads (I remember we had one with Hartlepool that ran to 11 pages) didn't carry across to the single thread. Every now and again though, this happens.

There always was one or two Stevenage fans, they not around any more? Harrogate don't have any that post here though, just one guy who still posts on the NL forum and pops up on the odd occasion to explain why he doesn't support Harrogate in their current guise.

One upon a time there were no Hartlepool fans, so I took it upon myself to make a post calling for some on the Poolie Bunker... there's billions of them now.

Don't think we looked that unfit overall, but by the end of the match we'd brought on two players who weren't long back from injury and a teenage loanee new to big-boy football. That was probably a factor.

I'm similar to yourself. I think for some games you could make an argument it's worthwhile if both clubs are well represented but I have found it's a nice way to keep a track on how other teams are doing in one thread which is useful.

Some of the individual match threads did get a bit ridiculous with some of the back and forth far beyond what we see now. I remember on the old forum one time we played Crewe and it went on for about 25 pages of which about 70% of the content was a variation of either "Dario is a nonce" or "HAHA Vale are going bust" which am not sure anyone wants to read.

Soft penalty in the Colchester/Mansfield game but the player has been caught wrong side. Can't really tell how much contact there is from the camera angle but it's one of those where he's given the ref a decision to make.

Yeah he looks like he could do with shedding a few lbs. Probably would have scored a hat trick had he played from the start though

haha true that.

I bet someone got grounded by their mum for ruining her best sheet though...maybe both their best sheet who knows what goes on in Mansfield.

Think that’s fair. McLaughlin who gave it away was by far the best player on the pitch too ironically.

By all accounts we were woeful last night, should have been game over long before the injury time penalty and it was certainly soft. Difficult to see from the television angle but it's 50/50 at best - even the commentary on BBC Essex sounded surprised at the time and called it very soft.

They did also say that Mansfield really were very, very good and will be right up there. I've seen a lot of comments online too also suggesting that Mansfield were very impressive so perhaps this is the season they finally get it right.

I can see why he gave it and it’s poor from us. as mentioned last night we really should have been 2 or 3 up at the time and were the better side.

Standard of if you don’t take your chances….
