Hope this is Lee starting to be bolder with his tactics and teamsheets.

Didn't see so can't comment on the game but using Molyneux out wide and cutting in was always going to be a good move. Great to see Bogle score and it was a very badly needed three points.

We have the makings of a good side in the 433 shape.

Firstly I will caveat this that I only saw the first 35 minutes of the first half and about 15 of the second, due to technical issues. But last night was absolutely horrible from our standpoint. We gave Tranmere a goal after 5 minutes - lovely through ball and finish mind you but awful defending by Cooper. We weren't awful in the first half and created a great chance which Davison screwed up after a flowing move. That said, I never ever felt like we were ever going to break Tranmere down. They were more organised than us, more aggressive and overall just looked like they knew what they were doing. They also hit the post first half and would probably be disappointed not to have been leading by more.

Second half we gave away another goal clinically taken and then my technical issues turned terminal thankfully. I read that we were pants but I had seen enough that Tranmere had our number from the off and will be disappointed only to win by 3. I didn't think Tranmere were amazing by any stretch, but it's clear that Mellon knows how to setup a football team and they were miles ahead of us. Based on that they were on a par with Mansfield, who also played us like a fiddle.

Also was lovely that Hemmings scored on 5 minutes for little Nate, just as the applause had begun to ring around the ground.

We haven't finished 1st in a league since 1938, 2nd or 3rd will do as it still gets you promoted.
We've not topped one since Southern League days, albeit not quite so far back. Obviously be more than happy with any auto spot but still disappointing if we fluff champs from this position.

You will need a bloody good telling off if you blow it.

Didn’t see much of ours but sounds like we were awful and outplayed by Oldham.

Fair play to them.

We’re gonna get battered by Mansfield

Last night was like watching us under Garner. Injuries have finished us this season though. mid table at best I think

No its was one of the coaching staff. A tall guy with dark hair, somebody said they thought he might be their assistant manager. There was a bad tackle on Josh Cogley right in front of our bench. Cogley took exception to it and there was a bout of hand bags with Mellon and our staff in the middle of it trying to calm it down. Swindon`s coaches came across from their dug out and got involved. As soon as the dust settled the ref marched straight to the Swindon dugout and sent the guy off. What exactly he did I`m not sure but whatever either verbally or physically he sure upset somebody.

It was our assistant coach Scott Marshall that was sent off. Iandolo's tackle on Cogley was reckless but I don't think it was malicious or nasty (he's not really that type of player) but it is the type of tackle that often gets a reaction - it was definitely a tasty yellow card challenge that could have been construed as a red in some instances. There was the usual handbags and apparently Marshall was sent off as he entered the Tranmere technical area. Perhaps he also used foul and abusive language but evidently he overstepped the mark and was given his marching orders.

Big result for us last night, set piece FC are back up and running. thats now 18 of our 35 goals from set pieces which is pretty insane.
A good game with our keeper being man of the match, thought Newport looked decent, think they will end up in the playoffs.

I am hoping that our dodgy run has been and gone and now we can really kick on. After Port Vale away on Saturday our fixtures are extremely favourable. We then have Colchester, Scunthorpe, Rochdale, Walsall, Tranmere, Carlisle, Stevenage, so 5 of the bottom 8.

Would be great to score from open play once in a while, pretty mental that we are in an automatic spot from this but getting clean sheets means we keep picking up points.

The FGR TV commentary box is just feet above the away supporters.
Rochdale away fans were absolutely brilliant last night. They out-sung the commentator.
I bet the Rochdale home fans don't come across as so loud as their away fans did last night.
Oh as as you listen to Rochdale have a look at both goalkeeper's kit. Identical.

The midfield 3 that started last night needs to be the first choice going forward, even when Featherstone is back from suspension imo. Good balance to it and great work rate. Got the ball down well and played some good stuff going forward. Players brought in from Jan window seem to be making a difference.

Just on this; Northampton average near enough the same amount of points against the top teams as they do the rest.

While Swindon average significantly less against the teams outside the top 8 than they do against those in it.

Agreed...pretty sure you can hear them sing "you're just a bus stop in nowhere"...brilliant, beats some of the stuff away fans sing at us by a country mile...or should that be West Country mile!

I heard the Dale (not Vince) fans chanting “where the f#cking hell are we“ on Sky highlights.
Also why is the FGR player being lifted by his plums in the highlights screenshot.

Well; Dale somehow managed to snatch defeat away from the jaws of a deserved point. Having watched it back, I can seldom recall such an awful goalkeeping mistake in 40 odd years. Coleman will never have an easier save to make if he plays until he's 80.

FGR were similar to their performance at Dale; well organised, strong and plenty of pace...exactly what you would want from a team trying to gain promotion. Having said all that; they never really bossed the game, and both their goals were down to schoolboy mistakes from us... firstly Max Taylor raced out of defence and put Dooley off his header, and then the comedy goalkeeping effort right near the end.

We have threatened to take about a dozen more points than we ultimately have done, and we now find ourselves flirting with a relegation scrap. Worryingly, we are very shot shy despite playing good football up to the edge of the area.

We must change to a front 2, and drop the 5 at the back; especially at home.

Decent football but shot shy, playing 5 at the back, Rochdale sound like a less shit version of us.

Agree, the Wolfpacks days are numbered.
They got us out of the NL,but to keep improving, we need better.

I think there was one, which Davison should have really scored from but I can't really remember much else from us.

How’s he doing generally?

See that’s 4 games and 0 goals so far.

Not great in all honesty. He looked handy enough against a pathetic Colchester side (that we managed to conspire to draw with, when they had 9 men - reminded me of the only time I have been to the Valley as it goes!) but missed an absolute sitter, whacking it against the keeper when he had time to pick a spot anywhere in the goal. Then he got injured (hamstring trouble) and I still don't think he is totally match fit. He looks alright but missed another simple chance on Tuesday, heading wide. The whole team have been a car crash recently so difficult to lay blame but he's a severe downgrade on Tyrese Simpson, which was to be expected. I really want him to come good, but I suspect he won't.

Not surprised to hear that at all, strongly suspect he’ll be playing his football in non-league next year.
