I'm still disappointed with Tranmere because of 2005 anyway. :dis:

How many threads on this website turn into a pointless argument about who's the bigger team? It's completely subjective so always ends in ridiculous bickering and someone looking like a bellend. It was Luton and Bury last season, TRFC ON TOUR setting the tone early for this year.

maybe I'm just genuinely intrigued why people think Tranmere are a big club, they look a pretty average sized Lge 1-2 side at best to me, maybe am missing something, and certainly nothing special in this league based on some of the clubs that have dropped down here in the last 10 seasons or so.
Tranmere the biggest club ever at this level?? Don't make me laugh..

Maybe just scrape into the Top 10.

Can I just say that not all Tranmere fans hold such an over-inflated sense of self importance. 10 years ago, we were averaging almost 10k in League 1 under Brian Little, but it has been declining steadily since about 2006ish. We have suffered from a total lack of interest from the boardroom up until the new owners came in this season and that has had a major impact on the crowds, as people just gave up hoping we would ever progress again.
We certainly are not the biggest club to drop out of the league and as has been said, Luton, Bristol Rovers, Oxford and to a certain extent Carlisle all have more trophies than we do. That being said, IF it clicks next season, don't be surprised if we are at Bristol Rovers type attendances. I would never be disrespectful to the former league clubs in this league and fully appreciate that there will be random sides being bankrolled.
Anyway, looking forward to all the Northern games, especially Chester, Wrexham, Southport and Macclesfield. You have no idea how Southern League 2 was this season!

What about us? I remember Alty-Tranmere pre-season friendlies in the 80s.

Glad this season is over, not sure what to expect next season right now, no knowing who the manager will be and with half the squad/staff out of contract, but I'll predict a finished between 10th-5th

The amount of times we played Tranmere in the old Fourth Division days were insane. I can't believe people genuinely think they're a big club, just off the back of a few playoff appearances in the 90s and a League Cup Final.

If that's the case, Bournemouth and Brentford must be bloody massive!

I would put the case forward that Luton, Oxford, Carlisle and ourselves, who have all played top-flight football some time in our histories as bigger clubs than Tranmere. Also Bristol Rovers and Wrexham and don't forget the likes of Doncaster Rovers, Colchester United and Shrewsbury who have all been down here at some time.

Cambridge spent a while in the 2nd tier as did Stockport. All bigger clubs than a bus stop in Liverpool. :gr:

Greetings, y'all. Thoroughly depressing to be here, but still.
Honestly couldn't care less who's the biggest club and all that - we're all a division below Accrington, so pipe down.
This is a cracking part of the forum, tbf, so even if you don't end up enjoying on the pitch you'll enjoy this part of it!

Hello. Should be an interesting time of it. As for this are we the biggest club to come down billy big bollocks stuff, I'd simply say we're another Oxford, Bristol Rovers, Carlisle or Luton, who all took various amounts of time to sort things out (assuming Rovers win the playoffs, they looked a good side both on TV and in the FA Cup tie at Prenton Park) and what we've got to do is have a top budget (apparently it will be a promotion challenging one), appoint the right manager who knows the league and knows the right kind of players/characters needed to excel in it.

Resuming needles with Chester and Wrexham will be fun, Southport will be a laaaaarge following from us if they allocate us a couple of stands (you'd expect them to see us as a cash cow given there's no actual rivalry/bubble potential) and Gateshead as a weekend away in Newcastle sounds fun. But most importantly we have to put smiles back on the fans' faces and win football matches, we've been decaying away for so long until Palios came in.

Under the Palios duo I have a positive feeling we'll be bang at it. Had they not come in and we were still owned by Johnson with the same structure we'd be struggling to avoid doing a Stockport never mind a Bristol Rovers.

Brilliant case of our old friend - "head in the sand syndrome".

It is a colossal clusterfuck of a disaster.

He's just trying to keep the fans re-assured.

It's actually not as big a disaster as if he hadn't come in- we had serious structural problems behind the scenes financially, commercially and with our youth development, if he hadn't come in and helped bring in players we'd have been gone in January never mind May and be threatening a Stockport next season, even if the said players took the piss towards the end of the campaign.

So we're back in the Conference then......oh joy unconfined!!!

Scary how you're path has followed ours. Playoff final, playoff semi final, just pulling away from relegation danger before getting relegated. Your 2011-2015 is nigh on identical to our 2010-2014.

I remember feeling really sad for Torquay that day in 2005, MK beat us and scraped up and Torquay went downhill a bit after that, although Colchester away was a game they ought to have got a point from.

Sorry, your link was broken. Did you mean this? http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/11750/9826767/moore-id-have-kept-tranmere-up
Anyway, I actually agree with him but his timing could have been better. I've got no issues with Ronnie sending a message to Peter Johnson, but it's the fans and Ian Goodison (he is the manager of the Tranmere side for Ian Goodison's testimonial next Monday) he's sniping at here as well. The fans because it wasn't their decision to sack him (although plenty would have at the time to be fair) and Ian because some may take offence to what could be seen as 'gloating' and ruin the atmosphere next week.

Yeh, we didn't turn up. It was just the fact the winning goal was scored after we'd finished which made it worse, for me. Often think what could have been if we had survived that first season up there…

Who says it was his decision? I can completely see the benefits of Wrexham - he knows what he's getting and will presumably be able to hit the ground running. Our job will be 10x more difficult and so I can't say I blame the guy if he has chosen you over us. You've gained nothing over us though, as he was never ours in the first place.
