Yeah. Cos it's been so much more fun following Rovers these past 40 years than Swindon.

Wish we'd dropped out of the football league and had to play in Bath, then move to the Rugby ground and not win the League Cup, made it to the PL and 2 other semi finals and various trips to Wembley (not forgetting Selhurst Park).

I sure chose the wrong team there. What was I thinking?
But on the plus side we never went down the Swindon spend money we don't have, nearly go bust, get relegated spend money we don't have, get promoted, nearly go bust and repeat till end.......

Think until about the year 2000 us and Plymouth were the least promoted and relegated teams in the football leagues, in the last 16 years we've been playing catch-up. Wouldn't say it's always been fun, but it's certainly been interesting. The non league bit is a blot on our copy book but ultimately could turn out to be the relegation that finally made Rovers realise that they were sleep walking into oblivion.

We spent money we did have. Problem was Andrew Black, who wasn't even a football fan let alone a Swindon fan, decided to pull out the very day we went top of L1 with a win at Tranmere - what happened with them.

When he quit he wiped out all debts and money owed. We are currently running sustainably.

We didn't overspend to get to the PL and certainly didn't when we were there.

No doubt, with all your millions now you should piss this league, eh.

The buzz word is evolution not revolution, so don't expect cash to be splashed but spent when required, also Dc very much is against mercenaries tends to go for players with something to prove, so will see......

You don't want another Chris Evans on your hands
The Al Qadis so far seem to be exactly what they say they are. Only time will tell but at the moment think they are going in the right direction. Seem very well connected in the world of football so that can only be beneficial.

Come on, then. What/who did we overspend on in 1993?

You should remember that season. You finished bottom and got relegated.

I can't tell you specific names as quite frankly, I never have and never will give a sh*t about Swindon Town, although I am a little bewildered as to why you remember our finish in which league of the 92/93 season, that's a little creepy, Daniel. However, the fact that you rose from the 4th division to the top from 1985-1993 just smells of excellent recruitment and natural growth.

Of course, Swindon are naturally a Premier League club hence had the crowds, sponsorship and infastructure to support such massive growth in 7 years. One which is proven by the fact you illegally paid players in which your chairman was actually sent to prison for. So yes, I'd say you over spent for your natural means in order to get there and have been suffering to recover ever since (hence the stupid amount of times you've been filed to be wound up and entered administration since that time) and have now found your natural level.

This isn't a dig at Swindon, for the record. I am just saying that no clubs of our size, support and infrastructures can make it to the premier league without spending more than we earn.

We had no growth, you clown. We rose from Div 4 to Div 2 on the back of Lou Macari and a bunch of cheap misfits that just happened to click.

We got to the PL fair and square under Hoddle, hardly any money spent and what was came from the sale of Duncan Shearer.

We were demoted when we got to First Division under Ardiles. My original post was about getting to the PL.

Anyway, you've done fuck all in your entire existence and the only reason I knew you finished bottom was because I just had a shifty look.

Fuck sake, you've been slumming it ever since you left Eastville. Twerton Park, FFS

Now Daniel, don't get all defensive now, I must have touched a nerve that relates a little bit too close to the truth  Although, I must say a prison sentence doesn't scream fair and square to me, although, you are from Swindon.

And as for us doing nothing? Well I'm fine with that, because I will always support my team through thick and thin. You shouldn't follow a team because of success and history, you should support them because that's your team, no matter what. To be honest, right now I'm personally comparing your 'support' as to that of a freshly squeezed MK Dons fan.

Oxford and Swindon in the same league. Almost as bad as having us and Crewe!

We just need city and Rotherham relegated and we are all set.
An example of the bollocks we have to put up with from your support. I was at a snooker match tonight and am currently not drinking at all. After the match, which we lost (my fault coz I'm shit at snooker) we were sat having a drink ( I was on coffee) when someone, a Spurs fan, asked me why the Bristol clubs have never been successful? A fair question? My answer was 'because we are too compelled to compare ourselves to each other', which I think is a fair answer.
Next thing I know, Mr Methane Snorter, in his 'snack box' away shirt gave me a torrent of abuse about 'gaps, money, we're coming for you, f**king shithead etc etc' and wanting a fight about it! I wasn't even speaking to the tool!
Fucking lowlife and typical of the rubbish we have to put up with. I have no doubt some of ours are the same but currently I am back to f**king despising your club so I won't give your post a response WTGR to you personally.

Well my comment was about having a "lively " sub forum but alright mate. You obviously needed to get that off your chest.

Oh I wish we were Swindon and had one season in the premiership getting bummed left right and centre. 100 goals conceded? proper jealous.

Ciderup - you have a billionaire owner, one of the richest in the UK, and still haven't reached the Premiership....somethings going wrong somewhere eh?

I love how City fans are moaning about us and this whole 'you see what we have to put up with?'

Well I'm sorry, I'm 24 and I've put up with this shit for my entire life. I've put up with this crap, bragging, boasting, been threatened to be beaten up and been abused to wearing a Rovers shirt in my home city, and you got one comment because we've had to put up with years of your shit and suddenly you can't deal with it, despite us being a league below you? F*ck me, how would you deal with it if we ever met in the same league again?!

Your post has never made me smile so much ciderup. Normally, I hate these things but youre acting like you've had the toughest time ever and this cry for sympathy is making me sick.

So, let me get this right. You wouldn't want to get to the PL, even for one season?

You're quite happy lolloping around your natural home in the lower leagues forever?

Just an idea here.

How about we split this thread into 2.

One for Swindon v The Detestables

Another for Swindon v The Deluded

Yeah I'm sure they are over the moon to read petty bitching and a load of incredibly unfunny 'anecdotes' involving inbreeding and 6 fingered individuals.

Incidentally, where does this 'inbred' nickname come from? I used to live in Luxembourg and when couples get married there, they have to take a blood test to ensure they are not related, as I believe inbreeding was rife there back in the day.
