At least Scotland get their misery out of the way early, we'll be feeling the same way when we're dumped out of the group stages with 1 point.

So glad I've decided not to watch the England game, seems more horrendous than the other night.

All over, Scotland miss out on the play offs and Slovakia move up to 2nd on 18, probably the side most likely to miss out though. Another 3 points and a win for England to finish the group off, seriously need some performance improvement before the tournament.

Only England could get 26 points out of 30 and still be utter garbage.

Basically looks like Slovakia are going to be the Play Off side to miss out. Unless......

If Croatia/Ukraine is a draw, Croatia will miss out. This is the only result that can save Wales if they draw with ROI. If Wales/ROI is a draw and Croatia or Ukraine win, then Wales are out.

Northern Ireland up next, they are now guaranteed a play off spot after the result in Slovenia.

Want to feel old? The last time Scotland qualified for a major tournament, this man was nineteen years old.

Well that experiment from Southgate wasn't exactly a runaway success. We looked like 11 strangers, managing to both look worse at the back and blunt our own attack. I liked Winks though. That shred of positivity will soon be beaten out of him.

As for Scotland, they did just enough to give themselves hope, which will hurt. But that's better than they've done for a while I guess.

Truly sorry to see Scotland miss out. That was a truly gutsy performance which deserved better.

Forget this silly England vs Scotland rivalry nonsense.... We should be more respectful towards each other. I would certainly follow the Scots at a tournament if England weren't there. I much preferred to watch the Scotland match because I thought it would be a better contest. From what I'm reading about the match against Lithuania, I was right

Not so long ago, Gordon Strachan's future as manager was in doubt, but there's no doubt now that he's got that group of players behind him and they have to build on that.

This time next year, the next Euro Championships campaign will be under way. Scotland should start building for that NOW.

Good luck.

I've just seen this on another site I use so I nicked it...

What has next year's World Cup and the Eurovision Song Contest got in common?

England will only get one point.

I honestly thought Scotland wouldn't be in contention for 2nd this late in the qualifiers. How often are they out before the last matchday? This is not a bad campaign by any stretch considering the opposition.

Think about it though. Missing out on the last match day is gutting.

I said in August that I wanted Peru to finish 6th as it would be a good campaign and I didn't believe we could qualify for the World Cup. We are 5th with a home match left. If we miss out now I will be fucking gutted.

Scotland bottom of the 2nd place teams but Greece cannot gain anymore points as such because they play bottom side Gibraltar so the latter are still in danger of missing out I guess.
I don't think points against bottom sides are retracted this time around and why should they? They did it in previous campaigns because a particular group had 5 sides and not 6...

Nah I disagree, I'm delighted they're out. They can't stand us and I can't stand them. :-)

Because UEFA/FIFA are nuts, they've left the rule the same. Results against the bottom side in each group are disregarded to figure out who's the worst second place team.

Think Southgate needs to go before we embarrass ourselves once again in a tournament. The goal difference in the qualifiers have been a joke, narrowly beating Malta, Slovakia, Slovenia and Lithuania all at home, struggled tonight against Lithuania away another narrow win and drawing against Scotland and Slovenia away, just piss poor on top of the slow boring predictable football. I think we should go and get Carlo Ancelotti now while he's out of a job.

Scotland can be proud, Kazakhstan a much larger country only mustered 3 points.

Northern Ireland 1-0 down in Norway, comedy own goal so they'll be thankful they've already got the job done.

Northern Ireland will have 7 players one booking away from a ban in the 1st leg of the play-off.

They will probably hope not to play a team where they have to do a lot of tackling!

Want all the UK / Irish to do as well as possible me. Just as long as we continue turning them over most times we actually meet :)

The seniority of Henderson is a bit annoying. I mean he's not a terrible player IMHO, he's fine at what he does. But the fact he's up there as a captain and a constant fixture in the starting 11 is concerning. Especially when faced with deep opposition whom we need creativity to unlock. Which is most of qualification as it happens. He doesn't offer much there. When we need more rigidity and safety first ourselves, then he becomes relevant.
