There is absolutely no chance we are finishing in the top 10. Please stop.

So the season has not even started and Flitcroft has attempted to freeze a player out and has obviously fell out with him in the process. Basically he suggested Paul Anderson does not want to play for the club but he’s said on Twitter this is a load of rubbish.

He’s always been a top pro and there is no reason not to believe him, not great so close to the season starting.

This is why I lack so much faith in Flitcroft and he’s unusually large head.
Arrogant idiot. You can almost guarantee the whole thing will implode sooner rather than later.

This is how it starts. There will be players in that locker room who like Anderson and think he's been treated badly. Won't end well.

Bury fans say it was Ben Futcher rather than Flitcroft who was more responsible for players falling out. In a recent podcast, ex-striker Chris Brown (previously of Blackburn, Doncaster and Preston) had a now funny but alarming story. He’d signed for us without doing any form of medical, and then got injured basically straight away and was out for the season without kicking a ball for us. David Flitcroft and Futcher then took Brown aside and told him to rip up his contract as he ‘doesnt need the money’. When he refused to do so, he was cast out to train with the youth team and was never seen again.

Last season he took a dislike to Vigouroux, probably the best keeper in L2 - ostracised him and he was loaned out to Waterford for the season. Replacing him with a couple of clown keepers who played no small part in our failure to reach the POs. The pair of them are toxic.

I think we may well shock a few, there are lots of doom and gloom stories about us and a lot of this is ill informed and people not close to the club and with little knowledge are predicting us to struggle on this bad press.
Most of this was the former regime which is gone, we have some players who could be deemed to be bad eggs that have also gone.
For me the team is better than last season, the manager is new into management but highly experienced all the same as is his assistant.
Some of the foreign imports looked quite tasty to me from what I've seen and then you have the experienced players, Clark, Coke and even O'Grady who will be a great foil for Surridge.
Add to this Baxter who would walk into most teams in League 1 and also Cotterill if he signs, I may be wrong but I'm not worried at all.

On what basis? Baxter has barely kicked a ball. He may well come good, but if you’re pinning your season on him then the various pundits predicting you having a relegation dogfight may not be far off.

Not pinning our season on him, it takes a team to get promoted not one individual, but having seen him play IMO a fit Baxter would get into most teams outside of the Championship and some in it.
Technically he is a quality player who can dictate play and chip in with goals.
There are many people who believe this but you are entitled to your opinion and I respect that.
I reckon your bitter cos you expected him to sign for you lot.... only joking !!!
Anyway it will be nice to visit Prenton park once again, many fond memories there and of our previous rivalry.
I would like The both of us, Bury and Carlisle to go up. You'd be happy with that I imagine ?

I dont think you'll go down and dont think most have tipped that which was hence the surprised at the Sky pundits veiw.

That said a lot of the things you say now... 12 months ago were being said by Chesterfield fans.

It's like getting together with a new partner who you KNOW has a dodgy past, but you think you're the ones who're going to be able to change and tame them. They might look great and say the right things for a while, but then no-one except yourself is surprised when it all turns to shit and you end up worse off.

Given all four of us are longshots you’d get a tasty accumulator on that.

We’d take firmly top half this year as long as don’t revert to hoofball.

End of the day nobody knows what’s going to happen so there’s not much point in arguing.

Fair play hold your own opinion but that’s all it is, same with everyone else.

For what it’s worth, I think people are making things out to be worse than they really are at Oldham, I think on the pitch they will be fine, let’s not forget they got 50 points in L1 last season with much of the same squad.

League Two will suit them as a club, they can shake off their losing habit of the last 10 years and actually compete on the pitch at the top end which is impossible at times in L1.

Is this the same Jose Baxter who has made one appearance since February 2016?
Yep, apart from Everton reserves. This is no doubt a contributing factor to what seemed a minor knock keeping him out for now two and a half weeks. What I do like about that though is that there's still an air of mystique about how good he still is. Dreamland if he comes on for ten minutes on Saturday and bags one.

Yes there's question marks over us. But relegation? We finished above Milton Keynes last season. I don't think there will be twenty places between us this season.

I see more of Bolton 16/17 in us, but a level lower, than Chesterfield 17/18.

But the time for talking is nearly over. No-one knows how we'll do but it's gonna be fun to find out!

Completely understand scepticism about our chances of competing at the top of end of the league given what’s been in the press over summer but I really can’t see us being in the two worst teams in the league this season. Maybe that will come back to bite me but, as UTS pointed out, much of the squad who got 50 points in L1 last season remain.

Regarding Baxter, again on the surface I understand the scepticism. But he’s not been completely out of the game since his last league appearance and he seems to have been taking good care of himself at Everton. He’s now got a young family and will know this is his last chance at it. Even if he’s half the player he was when he was here before he’ll have a good year.

All good valid points and taken on board, maybe not agreed with but you're all entitled to opinions, that's football, if we all got it right the bookies wouldnt be so well off.
Good luck to all this season except when you play us, looking forward to seeing league 2 (div 4 to me) for the first time in my 41 yrs supporting Oldham.

Difference being Bolton (as much as it kills me to say) were a big club for L1 level, don’t think you can say the same about Oldham.. they also had a very good squad with the likes of Ameobi, Wheater, Clough, Le Fondre, Spearing and Karachan etc...

I feel like I was being a bit kind on us, but we may well beat Cheltenham. There's a good few potential big encounters between fancied teams in those first 5 games, particularly for Lincoln which is why they're down in 15th in my prediction as they seem to have an especially tough start.

Usually there's someone who fails to pick up any points at all by this point, I haven't predicted that but it could well be any of those at the bottom.

We'll, we're top of the league and that's where we're going to stay for the entirety of this season. So the question now is, who's going to come second?
