Reports of a racist incident at our game today. Love to say im surprised but am not, that’s been waiting to happen since crowds have been back and the BLM/kneeling has remained.

There’s a guy who sits in front of me whose taken to wearing EDL hoodies/T-shirt’s to games who I keep a very watchful eye and ear on, real nasty bit of work he is. Few too many of those types a part of our support these days for my liking

As I suspected, the second wonder goal from Swansea came off Pelly's back. And the first had two deflections!

Well as they say never turn your back on the ball - easy to do it though I guess.

Obviously Jobi McAuff isn't a fan of Lansbury.

Was quite critical of him saying it was a deliberate kick.

Jobi probably wouldn't know what a tackle is - didn't do much of it for us!

Obviously biased but really dont think he deliberately wanted to kick him 6ft in the air. Not sure he’s quite that stupid to take that sort of risk on a football pitch, but I guess only he knows. He’s clearly looking at the ball the entirety of the “kicking action” and when he puts his head down Manning isn’t really that close to the ball. Will say he is lucky as intention doesn’t really come into it but maybe the ref is as fed up with players kicking the ball away all the time as everyone else.

We scored a goal off a very quickly taken set piece by Lansbury in pretty much the exact spot against Barnsley so it’s something we want to do clearly.

Despite a very poor 2nd half performance we were still a little unfortunate. Take with a pinch of salt obviously as it’s by no means a perfect indicator (as the score itself shows) but the xG for the game was 3.1 to 1.2 in our favour. The goals they scored had a likelihood of 5%, 6% and 2% of being scored. Harry’s chance that he missed for reference is scored on around 40% of occasions for instance.

We didn’t help ourselves, and the finishing at 3-0 was not anywhere ruthless enough, but we were very unlucky with the deflections in particular. Not often you concede 3 all from outside the box.

We won the quality of chances battle at Bristol City too 2.6 to 0.6 in our favour so 2 games in a week we really should be winning which is concerning especially as I think both of those teams are going to be in and around us in the lower half of the table this season.

Another day, more injuries. Bell went down before the game again and Hylton in the warm up. I think that’s three games in a row someone has pulled out just before. Naismith also playing through the pain barrier. I’ve never seen a season like it. To be 13th right now is almost miraculous.

What the hell is going on?
This has to lay at Jones door. Either training or lack of or including injured players that shouldnt be risked. Cant be just bad luck. We have a deep squad.

Thought Elijah was back to last seasons superb form yesterday. Was great. Harry was a menace and Lansbury has an eye for a pass (and a card or two).

We have an issue this season tho. Injuries i mentioned above but also ......We run out of steam with twenty mins to go. We also have a great mentality if behind but a horrific one if we're ahead.

I wonder if our training regime has changed and the running out of steam and injuries are linked.......possible covid weakening link?

My concern is to my mind we are causing our own issues with how we are playing that’s causing it.

We press like mad, probably more than any team in the league I’d be willing to bet. That must take it out of us physically but it’s how Jones wants us to play, when you are run down and a bit tired you will pick up these muscle injuries that we seem to be getting at the moment.

Still quite angry 24 hours later, not helped by watching the goals back.
Swansea's second - keeper in goal, seven (7) defenders in a line along the edge of the penalty area. Pelly hanging around in front of them doing absolutely nothing except saying 'here you go mate, have a free shot'. Only Lansbury appearing to try to close anyone down.
Swansea's third - wide player gets the ball, Pelly stands about ten yards off him, saying 'here you go mate, have a free pass/cross' (to be fair, Pelly does this all the time), no attempt at all to close down/prevent the cross.

Fair criticism of Cornick for hitting the post, but why no comment on Adebayo for missing the target altogether from a one on one in the first half? Could easily have been five up - now that would have been hard to throw away!!

Then we need to adjust. Be fitter or introduce more subs

or pick fewer or better spots to press and be smarter about it to conserve energy. Either way its a clear problem. We did amazing to score three. But easy could have let in more, after we fell apart. But theres a mentality to it too. Sitting deeper and inviting issues and being negative defensive not just tactical shut them down. Its a fear

I'm still confused why we decided to set up with 3 central defenders against a team with one forward.
I'm also confused why NJ didn't react to Swansea's changes of players and tactics in the second half. We were crying out for a flat back four with Osho moving to DM to help to close the massive gaps that Swansea were given. No, let's give them the freedom of the pitch and hope for the best.
Yes I know that we were three up at half-time, that is partly due to how bad Swansea were and their first half tactics of pissing around art the back. Once they started playing, well you know the rest.

I assume as he didn’t trust anyone with going left back/wing back. He’s said Naismith can’t do it at the moment due to his groin issue which leaves pretty much no one else.

If you have him some truth serum I think he probably thought he could get away with a sub optimal tatcial situation because we had the goals in hand to fall back on and hoped he could get away with it and just manage the game out. Alas we couldn’t.

Solid point against West Brom really, can't complain. 5 unbeaten, 6 in all comps, with Cheltenham up next.

Cheltenham at home in the cup tomorrow.

Should be winning with home advantage but there are always a few slip-ups every round.

I'd make wholesale changes, we've named in an unchanged side in our last 4 league games, so a lot of players need minutes.

Rudd
Rafferty - Storey - Lindsay - Cunningham
Browne - McCann
Potts
Murphy - Evans - Sinclair

Wickham injured already and Lindsay too after both being crunched against Cheltenham, both looked nasty. Wouldn't be surprised if Wickham doesn't play again during this 4 month deal.

Neither of those guys get in the first eleven though, so the only headache is fitting in Ali McCann who really impressed. I think we'll be unchanged from the West Brom draw though.

St Andrews will be a tough place to go but we can't keep drawing games, need to nick a win away from home eventually. It'd be nice to see Olosunde, Barkhuizen and Ched Evans in contention for the bench, I think they're back training but not 100% sure. Sinclair is back from a virus.

We’ve got Bournemouth away which certainly wouldn’t have been the fixture I’d be looking for us to play at the moment, away to top of the league, although still early.

For the positive spin it’s 4 unbeaten, for the negative it’s 4 without a win. With the way we threw the Swansea game away though im finding it a bit difficult to err on the positive side at the moment, am still a bit annoyed at that result and how that turned out. As seemingly ever this season expecting some key players to not be around. Think we might have looked to set up on the counter a bit more if Onyedinma had been available.

We won this fixture last season off a bit of Dewsbury hall magic, could very much do with some of it now as the general vibe at the moment just feels like it’s trending in the wrong direction

Not to mention Adebayor almost charges keeper down on a press and keeper just gets lucky to scoop it back with an open goal begging even Harry might have scored ;-)

Yep the goal really boosted them and beginning to really control the tempo of the game. Early still and we all saw what happened last week but I’d be surprised if we got something now. Seems in an effort to be more forward thinking and attacking this season we’ve totally lost defensive solidity in the process - not helped with injuries granted but it’s been poor.
