Whoever comes in will at least be able to put their own side together.

Can't help but think that this is some elaborate plan by Smurf to get rid of Page and a lot of dead wood from the club.

Just out of interest what would you prefer:
a) gaining promotion by playing 'hoof ball' football
b) sitting in mid-table playing nice passing football

Occy going is expected due to location.

Dodds was offered the same terms as last season.

Duffy is meh so no big loss

The key one for me would be to keep Enoch and AJLS if a new man comes in and builds his own squad we've still got a decent core. Smurf talks in riddles so you never know, he has said that there may be a positive outcome to Page going etc so who knows.

Who says he would get us up? He did one promotion with Bradford (despite big resources for League Two) and that was only via the play offs.

Otherwise he has had two meh years in League One and took an average Bradford side to the play offs in an average league this season.

Don't see the fuss if i am honest.

I never mentioned Parkinson in my post. It was a general question as I'm slightly bemused at the fact that L1 fans seem to think L1 clubs should be playing nice attractive football despite the quality of player at this level and also the quality of playing surfaces these players have to contend with.

I don't see anything wrong with a blood and guts approach at this level

Well a huge statement from Smurf full of excitement tonight:

70 plus candidates, 15 serious options but down to 3 at the moment as shortlist:

1 is a manager who's done it at all levels including top flight, been out of work for a while and wants to bring an assistant he's close too who is currently at non league.

2 is a manager we nearly appointed after Adams left but got a job he couldn't turn down, his contractual obligations end in 2 weeks time (possibly just sacked or end of contract?)

3 is a huge name who's never managed in the UK before, caused Smurf to think it was a wind up until verified with top names in the English game

1 I reckon is maybe Megson (hope not!)

2 possibly Adkins or McDermott?

3 could be anyone! Im thinking maybe a famous player who's looking to start out as a manager rather than a famous foreign manager leaving a top club to try out League One! Maybe a Bergkamp or someone like that?

Gary Neville for number 3 seems to be being suggested?

Not sure what to think of that to be honest

Would have great contacts for us to get some younger players in on loan. Friends at United, plus the likes of Hughes (dare I say it), Bruce etc who he used to play with.

Valencia was a suicidal move for him, huge but struggling Liga BBVA side as a first job was a bit nuts. Would take him in a heartbeat.

I think Gary Neville would give up on the idea of being a manager and go back to being a Sky pundit before he'd come to a club like Vale.
If he did want to come and manage in England he'd have all the managerless championship clubs such as Villa, Leeds and Forest all chasing him.

All we know is it's someone Smurf thought was a wind up at first. Maybe even Phil?

Owen Coyle is a shocking manager, lived off getting Burnley up for too long.

Phil Neville would have some useful contacts (if it is him). Don't fancy Coyle though.

Life at Vale Park is never dull is it?

Keep hearing about certain potentials might have 'good contacts'. That's all well and good providing said person can coach them and man-manage them in the right way and let's face it Phil Neville has never come across as Mr Charismatic before has he?

Jaap Stam now in the top 5 on skybet. Isn't he in discussions with Reading?

I'm sure it will be a big name, who could doubt a man who stands up to racism and gets beat up by his own fans. In Smurf we trust :bg:

As long as you take him back home with you that's fine. It's nice to take the needy out on a day trip now and again

Skybet have clearly been reading The Sentinel as well. Now have plenty of Portugese names in the list with Rui Faria the shortest odds - could it be that Giggs will remain as Utd assistant meaning Jose felt the need to get his mate another job? This fella would certainly bring some added excitement to the touchline on a matchday.

Steve Evans also crept into the betting now - please god no
