Is this confirmed? New contract signed?

Quite surprised really. Not cos I thought he’d come to our shambles of a club, but I thought he’d have other attractive offers to tempt him.
Not confirmed but reported in the media

Of course if the Arteta to Arsenal saga has taught us anything, it's not to take that as definite.

Ah well, I don’t think the media would have any reason to report a false story.

Can’t blame him really, Celtic away in front of 60,000 or Crawley away.

I have a feeling we’ll end up with Lee Clark.

I'm sure Murdoch's fake news machine currently has the Carlisle managerial position second in importance only to Trump in North Korea.

According to the Daily Express, Hopkin has turned down an offer to manage us. I haven't seen the article myself, the BBC transfer rumours site mentions that it appeared in the print edition of the Express.

I saw that, but they are a day behind as ShoddyNews reported this yesterday.

Stuart McCall’s odds have rapidly shortened over the past day and he is now the bookies favourite

ShoddyNews always verifies their sources, but it can't hurt to find additional ones.

Could probably do a lot worse than McCall. Took Bradford to the L1 playoffs and sacked following a poor run but otherwise had been doing well last season. The Bradford fans seemed surprised by his sacking, I don't remember there being any suggestions that the six defeats were his true ability and getting to the playoffs was just luck. Bradford are a good footballing side right?

McCall would be decent for Carlisle but realistically his last two jobs were Scotland assistant and managing a L1 club in the play offs for a year and a half so he might see it as a step down, whether that’s right or wrong.

McCall not in the frame according to BBC. A few people probably just lumped £20 on him and all of a sudden he’s bookies favourite

Step down from managing Bradford maybe but surely a step up from Scotland

Can’t argue that Scottish football isn’t guff but he will probably end up there. He’s in a weird position where no teams above us will want him but I can’t see him taking random lower league jobs.

Curzon Ashton....and Carlisle
I find it weird that Jansen has become quite a strong favorite among Carlisle fans when realistically Edmondson (who we already have) has really done much more at that same level than Jansen has, yet fans would go apesh*t if Edmondson was appointed.

Edmondson had play-offs with Workington and promotion with Barrow, Jansen has really not achieved anything at Chorley, the two play-off positions were not as such earned by finishing in the top 5, just once because Darlo were not allowed in and 6th was and second time because they added a silly rule where 1/3 of the entire league can be in a play-off spot.

Not that Jansen may be a horrid choice, i just find it weird how fan reactions are to incoming managers. similar with Mcdonald who everyone seems agast at having.....I seem to remember being the 'miserable moaning b*stard' on CUFC forums for the fact i dared to slate Mcdonald on the forum after most games...........everyone else loved his spell as manager, yet now suddenly its an awful choice.

Still personally think the Livi manager may regret it if ditches Carlisle and stays waiting for something else.........is no more he can do in Scotland and i think Carlisle is a decent job for a Scottish manager trying to break into England, we will give him time to build a team while most clubs here will give him 5 months.

Jansen has done it with Chorley on a little budget. Edmondson had a huge budget at Barrow, gof pronoted from conf north with full time players then failed once he was up against clubs with competitive budgets so was ultimately sacked.

Plus Jansen would probably have better contacts and be able to attract better players.

I can easily see why he’s a more attractive proposition than Edmondson.

I’m not against McDonald, he did a good job last time and signed some brilliant players who made the club millions

My #1 choucd is still Hopkin but we’ve got no chance

Regarding McDonald I think it would be fair to say I liked him as manager ten years ago, but his career since then doesn't really make me feel like he would be a good decision now, spent too much time in and around Allardyce.

I'm wary of Jansen or any young manager being appointed on the basis of being a former player already popular with the fans, he's still my first choice of any of the ones who seem to be genuinely in the running but I think an inexperienced manager would be more likely to struggle if things go south, he gets no backing from the board and the fans get negative. A truly dire situation, if that's what next season is to be would require skills from the manager that can only be learned through experience.

With Edmo, it isn't so much his managerial history that would bother me, though like HG I associate him mainly with the spell at Barrow that saw him sacked, but that appointing from within would suggest the board really are only after someone who will be cheap and who won't challenge them as much as someone new. I think deep down they still resent the fact that Curle came in and had different ideas on how the footballing side of the club should be run and sometimes dragged them out of their comfort zone.

edmo got Workington into play offs with a much tougher set up than Jansen has, people forget that.

I am not against Jansen here, just find it weird how fans quickly perceive managerial candidates.

Personally think only reason Edmondson and McDonald get negative vibes is fans linking them to our unpopular owners

Clark granted is a horrific choice and record has no redeeming reasons to anyone appointing him

No idea why this is taking so long.

Statement released pretty much saying they’ve decided who they are getting but structure/contract etc need to be ironed out before anything can be confirmed. Says the process is ongoing and will continue over the weekend.

Fuck knows who it will be

When they said they would appoint a manager in the middle of this past week I presumed this meant they would offer him the job, no guarantee he would accept, perhaps that was Hopkin.

I’m assuming Hopkin didn’t even apply. Why would he apply for a job he doesn’t want?

Surly anyone who applied would accept the job unless we’re offering absolute piss take terms.

Well any applicant might not have had us as their first choice, they might be waiting on hearing back from other clubs they've applied to. It could be Hopkin applied while discussing terms with Livi, but turned us down when Livi came up with terms he was happy with, or like you say we offered piss take terms, or it could just be a case of a la Ricky Ravenhill, someone drives up on a nice sunny day, likes the trip up is all for taking it, then gets stuck in traffic on the way home, misses his kid's bed-time and thinks 'fuck if I'm doing this every week, sod that'.

Rumours going around on our forum from good sources (Chris Lumsdon being one) that David Hopkin got offered the job and yesterday agreed to take it, however the club have now changed the terms and Hopkin is now out of the running as he feels undervalued at being pissed about

Shambolic.

If true is just the perfect example of how we operate.

Our forum has now erupted with rage. Mike is going to have a job on his hands policing all that crap over his bank holiday as I can see at least one thread that is going to have to be locked.

If all that is true (no reason to believe it’s not), it is absolutely shocking. An appointment the majority of fans would be very happy with and the manager himself wants the job, and they’ve fucked him off.

Maybe you're just waiting till the World Cup's over to see which managers become available?

I think we’ll have had a lucky escape if these clowns appoint him.
