You don't change at Didcot, just split the ticket for that.

Sheffield to Derby is 30 mins and £13, hardly a major difference, Preston to Bradford isn't classed as a major route hence it is cheaper than Bristol to Reading which is the arterial route to London from the South West.
Fair enough then, I stand corrected. Unless you book it months in advance which is a risky strategy with the amount of games Sky broadcast nowadays, they rob you blind. Frustrating, but they know we'll pay it.

When I lived in China, £40 would get me a round trip to Beijing on the bullet train that takes 6 hours each way.. And they were always on time and never cancelled for engineering works. If a 3rd world country can get it right, why cant we? Anyway rant over, back on topic. Umm... 1500 sold for Brum so far, 2000+ sold for Reading.

I think Norwich have both tiers for us this weekend. Should be a full house for the first time in a long time.

Train prices have a larger factor to what games I go to than the ticket prices for the games do. I dont care if a game is £20 or £40, if the train prices are okay. I am not paying the best part of £100 (I have to pay £20 ish to get to and from my place to London) on travel.

Agree that train prices are a joke, I wanted to take the lad to Newcastle in a couple of weeks but really don't fancy the shit drive. I simply cannot get the journey below £150, and I can't justify that two weeks before Christmas.

Exactly my argument, we have some fans unwilling to pay 37 quid for Leeds but when adding train costs it worked out cheaper than Bolton all in.

It's costing me £15 to London on Saturday mind, mates rates.

Remember when me and my lot first went to London on the train they did an offer called 4site, 29 quid between us, that was 2001 mind.

Luke, is China a 3rd world country?

Do you have a railcard, also how old is the lad?

Brum to Burton £14 return
Burton to Sheffield £22 return
Sheffield to York £21 return
York to Newcastle £22 return

That's Dad and Lad prices without a railcard, with a bit of thought you'd stay on the same train all the way

Nah we don't have railcards (he's 10 btw), I'm fortunate enough to only live a short cycle ride from my work so the only time I ever use the train network is the football. I'm very much a stereotypical "thick Brummay" when it comes to train travel, I like to get on at International and get off at destination, breaking the journey up like you've done above confuses the fuck out of me  even though it's 4 journeys it's still one train? or could be if the timings were worked out?

Hey up pal

9:03 from New Street to Newcastle
17:41 back to New Street
Buying those tickets as separate ones using cross country website

Edit you can get a railcard for 27 quid which saves a third on all fares.

Right after research
9:03 Brum to Derby
20:29 Derby to Brum
14.25 return*

9:44 Derby to Sheffield
19:58 Sheffield to Derby
9:60 return*

10:21 Sheffield to York
18:45 York to Sheffield
15.20 return*

11.32 York to Newcastle £10.05*
17:41 Newcastle to York £13.85*

*With railcard

Total £62.95 + railcard all same train both ways

Fair enough, I thought that they were a major economy in the world, certain given their investments in the UK.

Wouldn't surprise me in the slightest but I'm uneducated on China if I'm honest.

Christ 80 quid each for us, first train out of Sheffield last train back, plus tube tickets. As you and me know, prices aren't the main reason for our shit followings to Leeds just an excuse, always good numbers pre Kirkland incident.

Cowards using sky and that as an excuse.
London away is always cheap for me.

On 7:29 and 20:55 back, though the return is open for a month.

It always surprises me reading this thread just how many of you seem to go to aways by train when driving usually works out much cheaper, especially if you take a car load and split the petrol money.
It will be to do with being able to get pissed on the train then I guess?!

I go on the train to make a day of things, you miss so much of the day if you drive to a game, watch the match, and drive home. On a day out on the trains rarely is the football match the highlight of the day!!

I think the build up is much better going by train. It just seems like a proper away day.

I always drive to Grimsby away games as I take my 10 year old with me every time now so drinking is not an option for me anymore.
We always still manage to make a great day of it though as we always set off early enough to get there and have a mooch around (normally between 5 and 7 of us), although at Mansfield me my lad and 2 others had a wander around while the other 3 fucked off to the ground really early just to get a drink as it was an early kick off and no pubs were open when we got there.
I guess trains would be a good crack though so I can see why so many of you go for that, but I will stick to my car as I am a tightwad! :gr:

I've heard tales of people thumbing it to away games when they were in their youth. Many years ago of course.

We always used to get the minibus up north. Always a class day out.

I think being pulled over on the M11 with a van full of gear was a particular hair-raising moment.
