So do we; if you ever see a Sky Sports feature on travelling Carlisle support (and they seem to do these regularly, last time it was when we had Plymouth on a Tuesday night last season), it's mostly the same people who will be travelling to these games, and who will accuse anyone giving them a swerve of not being true supporters. Not everyone on that coach to Plymouth falls into that category, but the hardcore would definitely have been central to it.

Agreed. If you don't go to every single away game (4 or 5 a season just doesn't cut the loyalty mustard) then you just ain't entitled to an opinion....yet many of these mega-fans will show zero integrity by welcoming bullshit such as the EFL Checkatrade Trophy.

It's amazing how much coverage Hartlepool and Carlisle get when we play at Plymouth and Exeter ...the press seem amazed that our clubs can afford to hire a coach and that our supporters have cars ....

I'm sure Andy Hall (Carlisle United media officer who seems to have done every behind-the-scenes job possible) used to drive the players coach and got interviewed one about the travel... maybe that's where he first got the taste for the media.

I think he may have also been the kit man on the day we forgot to take our kit with us to Bury.

To get back on topic, not that there's anything wrong with discussing Pools and Carlisle of course, I don't know why some of you are only looking at the away followings. In my book, more emphasis should be put on the home crowds, most of whom only live some 10-20 mins away from their ground. Those away fans who live some 5 hours away will always take every opportunity to see their side play when they're playing in their neck of the woods - and I can't say I really blame them. Plus, away followings are always inflated by some of players' relatives.

Down sarf there must be loads of exiles from northern towns who go to all the southern games .....I don't see much evidence of people quitting Surbiton for a better life in Grimsby .......... back to coach drivers .....we had Brian Clough driving our players around back in the day ....

Well we have a whole supporters club branch in London that covers the south and get to a lot of games down there, get the impression though they wouldn't touch Checkatrade with a barge pole, whenever I've heard about them they seem like the sorts of people who wouldn't be out of place on a forum like this (they call themselves a branch but I don't think they have any official affiliation with the supporters club, they seem to be pretty much their own organisation)

You would be surprised just how many non locals live in Grimsby (and I don't mean Polish).
This is just on my line at work we have Luton, Lincoln, Gillingham, Birmingham and a Cockney.
(And 1 or 2 Poles lol).

I just picked Grimsby at random ..... your talking a handful moving south to north ....if I lived in the South East I'd be at every Pools game within an hour , and yes , that might even mean this trophy ... although I'd keep it very quiet

Dario Gradi used to drive the team mini-bus to local-ish away games, complete with first team ofcourse,on the odd occasion.I remember this happening at Burnley, for one.

We're going with £5 in for ST holders and £10 for non-ST holders. I don't know if that's the same as the other £5 deals the home clubs were doing last time out. I don't see a great many ST holders wanting to go though, maybe about 600 or so of the self-proclaimed 'hardcore', so should be a pretty low attendance since £10 to see us play Blackburn U23 on a Tuesday night is hardly an attractive offer for the casual supporter.

I've already paid for my programme for this game via a subscription so I'll still go pick that up.

On our decision to go with the changes it basically came down to it being a dying competition and the extra money was a benefit! Understands fan feelings towards it and if known it was U23 with 5 first team players wouldn't have voted for it and is annoyed that there were no discussions after the vote on the changes that happened when originally it was all premier league U21 teams.

Apparently there was a mistake at the club that our Trust board members were not informed of the vote before Portugal and Fenty had not read the details until he got there.

Basically all boiled down to extra money, and as other clubs have said the changes that happened since have annoyed clubs. Personally sounds like a cop out and all the clubs that voted yes for financial reasons are using the changes since to go with fans outburst rather than admit they were wrong.

Worryingly Fenty said he would vote for the plans again! and our Trust have said they have had discussions don't like the trophy changes but support the clubs decision.

what happened to representing the fans?

I don't buy the whole dying competition thing. It's a small competition that gets shit attendances and zero media attention in the early rounds and then everyone takes an interest as soon as a Wembley final becomes a distinct possibility, and it's always been this way. Either we want to have that chance of our team lifting silverware at Wembley and we keep it how it is, or we get rid of it, there's no point in them trying to make it something it's not.

Following on from that, in my view.

The Premier League - couldn't give less of a shit about either the divisions beneath them, or nurturing young English talent, and have no real desire for the reformatted competition. All they want is to ensure their dominance is protected by tossing a bone down the pyramid every now and again.

The F.A. - Is hellbent on finding the magic formula to England not being a total and utter joke, and wants everyone else to show the same zeal, however they don't want to take on the might of the Premier League so they kow-tow and blame lower league clubs for their woes instead.

The Football League - when it's not graciously accepting the aforementioned bones like they were mana from heaven is running focus groups and watching Sky Sports and getting all the marketing men to come up with plans to revitalise the league because they have an inferiority complex and want to be just like the Premier League.

The owners of clubs in the bottom two tiers - are either sensible and/or principled (minority), share the views of the FL that we need Football 2.0, or are terrified that the PL will take their ball and go home.

£5 .....no matter who it's against , is a cheap night in the fresh air ....added to easier parking and perhaps a bit of elbow room in the rugby club ...... I'm not saying I'm all for it , it's just there are worse ways to spend a Tuesday

We're only opening the one stand for the game against Blackburn U23. What's certain at least is that this home crowd will be smaller than our most recent away following.

Our chairman has said our takings are up from this competition compared to the last couple of first round ties... however this is only because of the increased prize money offered.

It half reminds me of the FA trophy (shudders)

We're yet to hit three figures for tickets sold for the game against Blackburn on Tuesday, hopefully it'll stay that way too...

Oh, this is happening again. We're playing 'Blackburn'.

I had planned to go along to the ground to collect my programme I'd already paid for and maybe have a pint in the Beehive while listening on the radio, but turns out I won't be in Carlisle at all tomorrow evening, ah well. I'll resurrect that plan when we play Fleetwood.

At the last count we'd sold 511 tickets. Fear we won't plumb the heady depths of a sub-1000 attendance but oh well.
709 as of this afternoon.

Hopefully we win but once again I'm not overly bothered, I think we've got enough to see off Blackburn's reserve side.

Not as empty as you'd think since that large capacity is only about 50% seating and terracing has a way higher density. We're only opening one stand though, save for the away end which will only have families in it most likely. Shame the open stand is the one opposite the TV cameras.

There's a thought. I wonder if the Carlisle fans who insist on going could be encouraged to go in the away end, making the stadium look emptier on the telly than it is, as well as just for the general hilarity of more 'Blackburn' fans turning up than Carlisle.

I can't see many away fans there , how many Carlisle youth away games have you been to ....... ( it's 100s isn't it ?) ....our problem is the plastic makems who live in Hartlepool and only watch them sat in a pub , and will probably need directions to the Northern Whatsit Stadium

Looking on our ticketing site, we've only opened four blocks of the Main Stand with 334 tickets sold currently.
