Bencherif is a good powerful central midfielder who can score goals, but he's a bit of an accident waiting to happen in central defence in my opinion.
As long as it's not in a 2 because he's not got the mobility or pace to do that. He'd get away with it in a 3 as he did with us but as soon as we went with a 2, he lasted a game or so then went to CB.

Agreed. Tall, experienced, commanding, exactly what you want. I don't know how fast he is, but hopefully he'll have someone who has pace next to him anyway. He seems like a bit of a utility man too but I hope he's just been brought in as a centre back and that's all. Pretty good days work I'd say. Just remember he's got a lot more to bring in yet, you need competition for places.

He isn't fast.

We have also signed a player called callum Powell. He is an ex Northampton youth player who has spent last few years in Vancouver on a college scholarship

Random to say the least

We signed one of those, a youth Academy player from Southampton, went over the the states, he was fucking shit...

He's not just come back from Vancouver though, he had a season at Poole Town where he impressed, we don't have scouts out in Canada ;)

Quite a lot of lower league/non league players are getting scholarships at US colleges these days. We've picked up the likes of Andy Taylor, Yan Klukowski and Corby Moore in the past who had all come back having spent time out there. Great experience apparently.

Agreed, he isn't mobile enough to be part of a two man central midfield, but I do think he's better as part of a 3 man central midfield as opposed to playing as a centre back.

Mills is like a poundshop Guardiola as he plays people out of position all the time to appear edgy and innovative, Bencherif might play off the front for all we know.

He did play one game in 'the Fellaini' off the striker for us!... Didn't go well.

Bencherif went from an overweight waste of a wage to an outstanding performer! Can't really be sad at him going as it was to be expected to be honest.

Far better centre half than in midfield for us. Looks his best as part of a back 3 where his lack of pace isn't exposed as much. Play him in a four with bombing on full backs.... he'll struggle big time.

Full time suits him due to his natural build - good luck to him.

I've actually never read anything to suggest anyone doesn't rate him (not on here, I mean players and managers).

Excuse me for sniggering but that shows you exactly how Nolan is, no loyalty to anyone. I can understand him leaving Lincoln because our style of play never suited so we didn't get the best out of him. However since he joined you I thought he would stay with Grimsby now that he is a regular starter and playing well. Not sure Chesterfield is a step too far. Never any doubt his football ability, his attitude however is like a petulant child.

Crabs have no loyalty these days. They all have terrible attitudes.

On Cook, maybe he won't get homesick this time and pile on the pounds. He seems to have bucked his ideas up since leaving us.

I loved Cook and thought he got a rough ride after a good first season. He was benched (wrongly) he sulked and got fat. Then he'd be given the odd game now & then and Hurst would drop him if he didn't sink a hat trick.

He shouldn't have sulked but he was wrongly treat like shit IMO & I really hope he does well.

^ Suspect that'll be you in 2nd budget wise behind FGR.

Thought Cook has his heart set on Carlisle or something?

Struggling to believe this! He said he wouldn't sign for any other Conference club, so I imagine these must be some good wages!
I can only imagine Cox has told him that we've already signed his replacement...

Carlisle or Hartlepool.... very good signing for Tranmere - now all they need is a manager that knows how to get the best out of him...
I guess that's Rhead going to Barrow then ;)

Martin Riley to sign tomorrow. Get him fit (and then keep him fit) and that's another good signing in my opinion.

Riley played the best season of his career when with us, I just hope he's fully fit these days. He is very much a fans favourite, nothing to do with his missus at all though.

Well yeah, my thought is that our offer was no longer on the table - ie a replacement has already been signed up.

Good signing on paper. Just hope Brabin gets us creating chances for him, otherwise he'll suffer the same as all the other strikers not called Norwood.

Gateshead - don't want to put a downer on things, but our next rumoured signing is Ryan Bowman. Although it could well be Connor Jennings or A.N.Other, but at least we've started addressing the goals scoring problem.
