Stockport County.
A good chunk of our forward options have been let go or gone back from a loan. The 2 or 3 we bring in for the attacking positions will determine how strong we are. I don't think we can be called the strongest until we know who's going to be competing with Madden and Reid yet.

Is he actually shit, or is he just an unspectacular back to goal target man?

He looked like the latter when he played here on loan 18 months ago, albeit very briefly.
I think he’s shite. He can’t move

He’s a good target man but he’s not very mobile, he’s got no goal threat though but I guess he’s still only young so hopefully he can develop for you guys in to an alright player.

Rowe seems to have an Evans/Holdsworth vibe about him, loves a player signing.

The thing is, he’s done exactly what this clubs needed for a good 3/4 years.

We had ‘serial losers’ ingrained within the squad that had been involved in successive relegations followed by serving up complete dross in the first 2 years at non league level, only just staying up both times!

A full rebuild and restructure was needed when the new board and manager came in and that’s exactly what they’ve done for us to now hopefully kick on

What we looking at?

Roach
----- Gunning/Kerr Grimes Maguire - - -
King --------- Miller
-- Oyeleke/Mccourt Weston --
Clarke - - Mandeville
----- Rowe - - - - -

Sumat like that? On the face of it, the key will be working out how to get the best out of Rowe and make him be a striker that acts normally, instead of roaming or lor. Asante coming back we will obviously need to accommodate which means a change in formation (or rotate him and Rowe). Guess it depends how many Rowe has been bagging
Reckon that's about right for me. Gunning and Oyeleke will play based on their performances this season. I expect Whelan or Rowley and Mitchell to leave before the start of the season, not sure why with Whelan as i'm a fan.
There's a shout for Carline to play RCB too, we have a bit of depth in that area now too if you think that potentially Carline, Whittle, Kerr won't be in the team. I also think we will probably rotate alot knowing Rowe

its mad how badly run clubs are at times. Then when it gets sorted you realise you've got a better squad at half the price.
We've been a shambles, came down out the FL with this lot on 3/4 year deals on silly money and just couldnt shift them so literally waited to get them out the door. A couple absolutely stole a living, a couple more weren't fit ever - which is why furlough helped :D

We've freed up 500k by letting those 5/6 go and brought in 7/8 on much less so I think our new CFO has earned his coin hopefully.

We've signed Nyal Bell. Any thoughts Stockport fans?
We had him on loan last season. Did really well for us. Don’t think anyone would have complained had we signed him permanently but Wild said we weren’t interested. Struggled at Alty though by the sounds of it. Should do well in the North from what I saw.

Inconsistent and unpredictable but on the days it all comes together he’s very good.

Top end of NLN is his level and he was our main striker during our second half of the season surge that won us the NLN title.

Gannon signed him on two separate one-year deals in the NL (even last summer when we a new owner and money to spend) in the hope that he’d reach his potential and become a consistent threat at NL level but he stagnated.

Luke Joyce signed for Fylde. He is now past his best but with no disrespect intended would have thought he is still far better than the sixth tier.

Barnett’s not terrible, but probably not good enough for a team with designs on the top seven. Left back/wing back who is much better going forward than defending, sweet left foot on him - scored a screamer against you.

All relative, though. We signed him at the same time and in the same position as Calvin Miller who Chesterfield are buzzing to have just signed (and us disappointed not to), but for more than half of their times at Notts, we’d probably have said Barnett was the better player.

Cheers, hopefully this is his level and he can help us with a promotion push next season.

We've signed Jordan Barnett from Notts County
I quite liked Barnett. Strong as a bull, will run all day, scored an absolute guided missile for us so can hit a ball.
The downside is technically and thought wise he seems a bit short. He can look a donkey at times and get turned when he loses concentration.
He is young though and will benefit from a patient coach who'll give him a run of games, he was in and out for us, on a short term deal after being released from Oldham and playing part time before he came to us so it's hard to settle yourself down when every thing that goes wrong looks like costing you your career.
Could go either way is what I've long windedly said.

No idea what Barnett is like as a footballer, but he looks like he spent his childhood sniffing glue.

His issue is his mobility, but I don't think he's anywhere near as bad as some of our fans make out. Firstly he's only 20 playing, as you say, back to goal target man, no late teens early 20 year olds master that position or have the experience and know how to play the position to a very good standard, I think Southend expected far too much of him because we had such limited options.
I'd say all his faults can be coached out of him and if he works as hard as he can and listens to the advice he's given I would not be at all surprised to see him as a league player in later years.

Makes sense, Devonshire has had him here before on loan so must have been impressed with what he saw in training.

Yep I've got some but you might not like them all. Strong fairly pacey forward who is a bit of handful for defenders BUT here's the problem he is a complete jigsaw (18 goals in 88 games tells its own story even though some of them would have been as sub). Nevertheless if he could somehow start to get a good deal more composure in the box he could do really well for you.

I thought Barnett was absolute gash tbh and I can’t quite believe he’s got a deal at a biggish club in this league.

Mind you I thought the same about Carl Dickinson and he did alright for you.

Another one in at the Walks - Pierce Bird from Eastleigh (formerly Notts County plus loan spells elsewhere) so any info appreciated, particularly if he is happier in a back three or four and whether he can head the ball (not something we looked for in a centre half last season!). Full story here https://www.kltown.co.uk/2021/06/29/linnets-bring-in-bird/

I quite liked Bird, think we should’ve kept him as he’s still young and was never bad for us. I think he’s a player Burchnall might have liked.

He’s more of a ball playing centre back than a rugged, physical one. Good left foot on him. Not small or bad in the air though particularly. I thought he’d had a good season at Eastleigh, so surprised he’s taken what looks like a (small) step backwards.
