Weird one that, thought he was quite well thought of at Eastleigh and pretty much an ever present? Maybe wants to move back up north? Not that KL is anywhere near Nottingham really.

Anyway, good signing for KL that. I always liked him at Notts. A good height (must be 6’2 or ‘3) and decent with the ball at his feet. But for some reason Ardley didn’t fancy him.

I quite liked Bird, think we should’ve kept him as he’s still young and was never bad for us. I think he’s a player Burchnall might have liked.

He’s more of a ball playing centre back than a rugged, physical one. Good left foot on him. Not small or bad in the air though particularly. I thought he’d had a good season at Eastleigh, so surprised he’s taken what looks like a (small) step backwards.
Thanks for the reply and looks (trying to be objective) more than a small step backwards but we are really pushing the switch to full-time so maybe Culverhouse talked him round (or we offered more cash!). Much as we like our centre halves to be able to play we were such a soft touch at set pieces last season I still think we could do with an out and out 'stopper'. McFadden has just signed on long term and whilst no-one could fault him on the ground he just doesn't have the physical presence that we have been lining up against this season. We have also signed Paul Jones (34 ex-Norwich, Exeter, Peterborough, Crawley) in goal so that will help in that he should be more inclined to leave his line than a Mair was last season but if we have learned anything from our first year it has to be that we need to compete physically first before we can begin to play the football that has marked Culverhouse's tenure.

Another one in at the Walks - Pierce Bird from Eastleigh (formerly Notts County plus loan spells elsewhere) so any info appreciated.
He’s great at flying down the wing.

Solid player at this level bit needs a CB with pace alongside him. After Shaun Pearson didn't sign for us I wanted us to try and get him back but it's a great move for him.

Higher up than I would have thought he would have ended up

I liked him more than some, amd was sorry to see him released. He is a good organiser and overall pretty solid at this level, whether he can make the step up is going to be interesting. He has played quite a few games at L2 level and he's only 25 so still plenty of room to develop.

Also sorry he has left but probably had offers therefore not offered new contract

Alfie Pavey returns to Maidstone

He didn't seem to do much at Barnet, but when he last played at South level a few years ago, he scored goals for fun at Dartford. So IF he's fit and fully recovered from his injury struggles (wasn't he out for like 9 months??) this could be a very good signing for us.

His time here went about as badly as it could possibly have gone. The lad looked shot mentally and had zero confidence when he played and was injured a big chunk of the time too. A move back to where he started should be good for him.

We're definitely part-time. This is most unusual, 3 signings so far and supporters of clubs they've been at previously haven't slagged them off for being totally useless.

Aldershot (and Boreham Wood, apparently )
Josh Rees left the Shots, not keen on the travelling from the Essex side of London. EFL standard, top scorer from midfield. Difficult to replace.

oh, a bit late…..

I thought he’d pick up a club down here and be their captain. He’s done very well to get that move. His undoing is pace, in that he has absolutely zero.

I know there were a few jokes about Southend signing players from five years ago, but they’re not putting together a bad side. Rees, Ogogo and Bridge make a decent midfield, Murphy will get goals if fit, and Coulson is a solid CB at this level.

Shame about Dunne, though.

Josh Rees is signing for Borehamwood.
He did his best to come to us but we didn’t want him

It could go either way as most of them players love an injury and are not getting any younger when it takes longer to recover. Depends what the attitudes are want to win or just seeing out their careers at the best possibly salary for the level they’ve now found themselves at.

What was he like for you lot? Was fairly highly rated with us, solid enough for this level, although loved a long diagonal hoof.
