Charlie MacDonald signs for Boreham Wood then.

Very good signing for them I feel, experienced head at this level and above. Surprised one of the other London-ish based teams didn't have a go for him (Woking, Welling etc.) - have Boreham Wood got much money about them? I guess they have with the crowds they get, but I don't hear about it as much as I do Barrow and other teams.

Just seen that they also signed Luke Howell. Good signing that, rated him when we had him in league 2.

It's a bizarre one. Turned down a contract with us to sign for Boreham Wood. I assume it's not money related and more a lifestyle thing as he has a new baby. Good luck to him.

They're a sustainable club who generate huge revenue streams from various sectors (Arsenal, 3G pitches, even a mobile mast too IIRC). Got to give Danny Hunter some credit for the operation he's got going down there.

Are Boreham Wood one of these tinpot monied teams?

No, they actually have some decent revenue streams. Think they have some 3G pitches (not what they play on) that they constantly hire out. Arsenal Ladies play(ed) there too which should bring in some money.

A feature they do share with the other Tinpot Hobby Club's is that they have no fannnssssssss.

Not exactly,
they make money from Arsenal youth and ladies teams playing at their ground and other off field activities but I don't believe the owner is pumping large sums into the club.

Blimey, can't believe so many have jumped to the defense of Boring wood.

Interesting, I assumed he must have struggled with injuries last season or something. Still at a good age as well. Great signing.

Maybe he did move for money as Scott Doe has just signed for Boreham Wood too! He was too good for us, let alone a club down here!

And suddenly it looks as if Boreham Wood may be better equipped than Barrow, who were thought to be this year's potential 'surprise package'

Something not quite right with the alignment of Boreham Wood's "budget" and the quality of their recent signings. Look good to achieve a Dover-esque finish.

I was pissed at Luke Howell signing for Boreham Wood, but Scott Doe?! If he hasn't had high end League Two or low end League One interest then I'd be very surprised.

I don't begrudge players moves for money at this level as you've got to eek out what you can in a short profession, but to see two more than capable League Two and arguably League One in the case of Doe, players go to a club that is looking increasingly build on £££ is massively disappointing - not least as they're two players I've long considered 'Daggers', especially in the case of Doe.

I'm just so disappointed, even if you've got the chance of a decent wage (let's face it, anything is an improve my on what we offer), surely you want to be attempting to play at the highest level?

I'm sad.

Have Boreham Wood gone full time since promotion?

Boreham Wood supporter I know (yes, they do exist) said last season that would be the plan should the club gain promotion.

Thanks. Interesting to know.

Gah! Another tiny club with better chances of getting into the league than us. Do history and tradition count for nothing? !

(Answer: they do not count for anything)

i'm quietly confident about Barrow's season now...

Andy Cook, Jason Walker and Anthony Wilson have all done ok in Conf national before and now Ashley Grimes has signed aswell so up front we are fine.
Mamadou Fofana, David Mellor in Midfield are looking good new acquisitions
Pilkington and Haworth on their day can skin any defence on the wings, whilst local lad Elliott Newby is potentially better than both of them....

Rather contradictory isnt it?
You don't begrudge players moving to earn more money, but your disappointed he has?

I do understand why as a fan of a L2 club, you might find it difficult to fathom out why your the better players are dropping down a level, yet you think they should prefer to play at the highest level they can.
But look at it this way, if he stays at D&R, where will he be in 2 years time? Potentially on even less money at D&R as they cut the budget and still struggling to stay in L2 with a club that is on a downturn.
However, he has moved to a new club who are paying better money and a club who will have told him they are aiming at promotion. So in 1-2 years time with B'wood, he could well be playing in L2 and will have maybe earned at least 50% more than if he had stayed at D&R.
That to me sounds like a perfectly logical move that most players would make.
BTW - B'wood will not win promotion and have no chance of top 5 next season.

Its why Eastleigh are able to sign a lot of L2 standard players. Firstly we might be offering more money then they are getting in L2 today and secondly, they WILL be playing in L2 before their contract runs out...so its a no brainer. Its all about "The Vision" that players are sold.
They don't all just think "oh i'm a L2 player i'm not lowering myself by dropping down for a year". They are sold the bigger picture and most players will see that. It really does become an easy decision for them. Most players are on 1 years deals, they simply have to go where the money is, no matter what the level. Why do you think all these retiring pro's go and spend their last couple of years playing in the MLS, or playing in Qatar and such like. Its the money, if they wanted to stay at a decent level, they could go sign for a West Ham or a Stoke, but they don't, they take the $$$ and these are players who are already millionaires. So for a L2 player who is still skint & struggling to get by, they have even less choice, they have to take a better wage every time.

Not contradictory at all - being disappointed about something and yet not begrudging them the move aren't two mutually exclusive things. I can be disappointed a member of my staff has chosen another company instead of mine, but if there's more money on offer there with better incentives then it's hard to begrudge him making a move. I'm just disappointed that he hasn't taken the chance to stay in League Two or move up to League One, even if they may pay him slightly less than what Boreham Wood will be. I understand football is a short life span as a career as I've alluded to, but Doe is still relatively young for a centre-half in the lower leagues and by signing for Boreham Wood, with all due respect, you're hardly putting yourself in the shop window or showing your ambition, are you? Dropping down a league when really at his stage of his career, he should be moving up a league - still, as I say, if it's about the money then I begrudgingly understand.

Maybe I'm biased as a football supporter, but you're talking out of your arse if you think footballers buy into a vision at Eastleigh or Boreham Wood - they're going for the money and the football comes with it (I'm not suggesting the players won't try, of course they will). Moving to Qatar is slightly different than moving to Eastleigh or Boreham Wood, although I understand the point you're trying to make. Although these players that move to those exotic locations for £££ do so at the end of their career.

Players at this level have to think about number one and I totally understand that, but I'm just disappointed that Doe has chosen this route when he could have received more at a bigger club than Dagenham in the same league or above.

It is amusing to see Eastleigh fan try to claim players are coming from league two sides out of some dream they will be league two in a couple of years then freely admit that most aging players can only really hope to get lucrative one year contracts.
Any player in their late twenties\early 30s who thinks they are beyond their best and have got as high up the pyramid as they can might as well take the best money\ location available regardless of which league. That is the pattern of Eastleigh's League 2 signings so far. They don't care whether Eastleigh are league 2 in two years time because their playing career will be either over or very nearly over and they will be looking for the next club offering the best salary they can get.

Eastleigh have not signed league two quality players, they have signed ex-league two players who by and large have their best years behind them. If they managed promotion almost the entire squad would need replacing because at league two level they are has beens.

Could not have worded it better myself. How big a compliment that is, I'll let everyone decide.

He knows all of this, only one motive. If my club, Dagenham or Barnet were able to match the remuneration his were offering, there would only be one winner, and it wouldn't be the penis extension from Hampshire.

Even if they are still part time London teams can always attract players easier than other sides.
What kind of crowds do they get?
Do agree though it's odd FL sides are losing players to a team newly promoted to the division below.

We've signed Braham - Barrett as 'cover'. I seem to recall him having a brilliant season at Farnborough before moving on. What's he been like since, Macc/Cheltenham fans? Shite I presume?

Arguably the worst player to ever wear a Cheltenham shirt (and that includes players who played for us when we were non-league before). How 3 managers last season kept playing him I'll never know. He's got a bit of pace and..........that's it.

I feel for Ebbsfleet fans after this signing.
