We had McNulty before he moved to Luton - awesome player - was captain of Liverpool reserves before that - back when Liverpool weren't rubbish

Exactly. It's all down to McNulty's positional sense. His strength also helps him in brushing off strikers without resorting to fouls, well, not always but you get my point.

In my playing days, I was a very fast winger/striker, so my main weapon was speed. I clearly remember one time when, before a particular match had started, I said to one of my team mates that I was planning on having a field day with the opposition's centre half as he was a big lad and looked sluggish. My team mate's reply was - 'I've played against this guy before and you can forget it, you're not going to get past him . Not even once'. Guess what? He was right.

Everytime I see McNulty I still think of this guy, and how appearances can be deceiving sometimes.

Tranmere should be winning the league with that squad.

They've got a very Bristol Rovers-esque feel about them, recruited very wisely, but question marks still linger over the manager for me in much the same vein question marks linger over Paul Hurst at Grimsby.

Difficult to envisage them not making the play-offs, any further, I'm not convinced.

Steve McNulty signs!! What a signing him with Gary Taylor Fletcher makes our squad very very good!!!

Never thought I'd see the day Tranmere make a big signing, never mind two!
Arguably the two biggest signings in world football for 2015, Christ we'll need a crane to get them 2 in Prenton park.

With no one exactly breaking away from the pack, it wouldn't be a surprise at all to see Tranmere be the team to do so. The only thing I think may hold them back is the guy in charge - he's a bottler.

I don't think two signings will turn us into non-league Barcelona... I was at the Barrow game, and we certainly have the ability to do a passing impression of a pub team when we want to. And then we beat FGR away convincingly...

We're as unpredictable as the rest unfortunately, I just hope the experience these two new lads have makes the difference.

Don't think I've ever seen anyone beat McNulty to a header. Amount of Scousers Brabin has signed is amazing really. Great signing but Brabin will probably find a way to ruin his great squad.

McNulty is a class signing at conference level so long as you play in the right way for him. He's predictable, but that doesn't make him a poor player, just not a player who was ever going to end up too much higher in the pyramid. He knows what he can do and does it well, positioning/reading the game being the key part that holds it all together. You can't play too high a line or you risk him getting turned, the higher up the pitch you want to push your defense the better your full backs or CB partner really need to be in order to counteract the effect. He'll win a shed load of headers and intercept passes with ease.

We've got a CB just like him (albeit of a lower level of course).

No I know, but Taylor-Fletcher is a great addition if he still has the fitness. Ability wise he's one of the best in the league. I have never actually seen McNulty play but he comes with excellent pedigree.

Some good signings, hopefully the experience these two have of winning will be a positive influence against the lesser sides of this division ; we have taken 18 from 9 against the top half, with 5 of those games away, but only 12 from 9 against the bottom half.

If Gary Brabin signs another four central defenders, we'll be able to field a starting eleven of them.
McNulty is a decent signing at this level, it's to be hoped that it all works out for him and Rovers.

We're still laughing about the roasting Lee Gregory gave him at The Shay in 2014. We thought he'd won a raffle at his local boozer, you know, buy a ticket to win a place in a non league team of your choice. The rest of his defence seemed to have been detailed to nursemaid him and cover for his lack of pace and mobility. The Shay was rocking that day, mostly with laughter at the clown in the number 5 shirt. It was cruel at times and gave you a flavour of what it must have been like to attend a medaeval bear pit. :bdick:

McNulty is a brilliant signing, although he must cost a lot. What is Tranmere's playing budget supposed to be this season?

At the start of the season we were budgeted for a 30% drop in attendances and so far they've increased on last year. We've also just received an amount rumoured to be in the region of £250k from Wigan for Max Power. All we've been told is that it's a top four budget, no idea how much it is though.

Past his best. Has made more mistakes in his last few games that in the last couple of seasons put together, and conceding a lot of free kicks as a result.
I still hope that he can still do it at a lower level though.

We've just signed James Dayton who's been released by Oldham.
Initial three months with a view to permanently signing.

Well as our turnover is between £4m - £5m and we are debt free I'm not sure it matters. However I've heard £1.2m; I believe about 75% of that was allocated as of the start of the season.

Still think we're a little short out wide perhaps- Dawson is quality, but his two deputies are far from it and only really any use as backup- ideally if we could find another wing man of Dawson's calibre, we're all set to go for it. McNulty is the kind of winner and leader that can drag teams through certain games with his vocal presence.

McNulty got destroyed at home by Greggs and away by both Greggs and Gardner. (oh how I miss them :( )

But whenever I've seen him on tv he's been immense - and Greggs and Gardner are playing in League 1 for a reason.

Excellent signing.

I think a point we are all missing here is how easily our guys are bullied by teams like beastleigh and faultrincham we needed a couple of strapping lads who can dish it out to look after some of our more gentle flowers who shy away from a fight, to get two players who can actually play is a brucie bonus

McNulty was outstanding in both games against us last year, particularly the away fixture. Very happy we've got him.

We've added to our collection of ex(/current)-Stockport County players by signing Chris Churchman. With our injury crisis he may be the answer to our prayers ; hope he fits in and doesn't altar our playing style too much.
