So the Harrogate fan is a champion weightlifter, Stocky is that fit he hasn't a chance of catching the virus and B2TF, well he never leaves his house due to his licence conditions.

Get the three of 'em in a rumble, better than anything WWE has to offer. Just need ring names...

Puts me in mind of the boxing ring scene from Bad Santa

Seriously?

I mean - are we really supposed to believe that a party who wanted mass nationalisations and tax rises would have randomly gone all libertarian on us during a global pandemic?

Regardless of what you think of Corbynism or Labour generally, of course they would have handled this particular situation better.

We will never know will we. One factor you seem to be ignoring is the complete dearth of talent and intelligence in the labour party, all the best ones either left or lost their seats.
With few intelligent motivated people running things, what makes you think they would have made any better decisions,.. ? and any recession would be even deeper and Brussels would by now be running the country too !

Is a tennis court open where you are?

I'm in Bahrain so everything is open except pubs and gyms. In Saudi where I work though, nope, nothing open only supermarkets and there's a curfew AND you need a permit to go out and about.

But don't worry, they'll be one of our biggest trading partners post Brexit. There's loads of stuff that'll go through. Enjoy.

and any recession would be even deeper and Brussels would by now be running the country too !

Does anyone truly believe both these outdated parties still represent the working men and women of the world effectively though?

It's a pointless charade getting excited and het up over party politics. People treat their parties like a football team and I don't get why. I work in the trade and I can comfortably say that a lot of us in it are very much anti-Conservative (they couldn't give a toss about anywhere outside of the South East) but we equally don't get this bollocks that Labour would represent the working man any better either! Especially when you get horrible metropolitan elite tossers like Emily Thornberry trying to belittle white van men to a wider audience on social media for flying their national flag at their own homes!

I think a lot of people are very idealistic at times and see a narrow-minded, unsubstantiated narrative that the Tories = Bad Guys and Labour = Good Guys but let's be frank, they just want power and they don't give a fuck how they get it, who they promise the world to and then stab in the back at a later date. I think politics is very Londoncentric in this country and those outside of that London/Commuter bubble are greatly penalised and not represented as well as they could be. I'd much prefer regional assemblies, an idea which was voted against strongly by our friends in the North East in the mid 2000s (under a Labour government). If this idea was proposed now, I feel they'd be far more receptive to it than they once were...

Yes, the Johnson cabinet is so full of people appointed on merit and not because of their Brexit fanaticism and loyalty to Pifflewaffle. There is a reason why the likes of Priti Patel are not being exposed to the media.

I have a lot of sympathy with that point of view. The MPs of both parties now are completely unrepresentative of the work backgrounds of people in this country. Both parties have a large number of MPs who got there via the student politics/think tank/SPAD route. As for the rest of them, with the Tories they seem to be mainly ex-Hedge Fund/Private Equity managers while with Labour they seem to be mainly ex-LA/Public Sector/Third Sector managers. Oh with a fair sprinkling of lawyers for both parties (which does carry a useful set of skills for being an effective MP but also carries it own baggage).
This intake of MPs then has to work within an outdated and obsolete structure and a too powerful executive which produce the sort of shitty policies we’ve all become accustomed to in the last 40 years. They both sustain each other IMO.
It is possible to see a different and more productive way of doing things in the devolved governments, which makes the present situation all the more frustrating.

https://www.havantandwaterloovillefc.co.uk/club-statement-open-letter-to-the-national-league/ - Open letter from Havant and Waterlooville's directors, something that I'm sure will resonate with the majority of Harrogate (maybe not our supporter on here) and Kings Lynn/York City supporters.

For those who can't be bothered to open the link, they're advocating promotion/relegation throughout the pyramid but since it will be unlikely for playoffs to be held within the National League, the club in second within each division should be automatically promoted.

Agree that Boris is making a pig's ear of it all but can you imagine the carnage if Corbyn had got elected.
Yes but Corbyns successor is running rings around Boris.

It was Dominic Cummings who led the No campaign against the North-East assembly, using the same kind of misdirection and distortion of facts to win a referendum as he did a over a decade later.

The 2011 AV referendum was another one that could have changed things for the better but again one side had a coherent campaign and one didn't.

Seems like he’s everything, applying his special malign touch like some sorcerer.
The trouble with the AV referendum was that the system proposed would have barely been more proportional than FPTP and many people who wanted to change the voting system couldn’t back it wholeheartedly.

It’s ok guys, Dominic Cummings drove 260 miles with his sick wife (covid positive) whilst he was feeling ill himself, to self isolate on his in-laws estate with his 4 year old.

Perfectly natural thing to do at the height of a global pandemic.

Maybe you're just tone deaf to any opposing view. Did you think about that? Huh?:ds:

Well that was because in coalition the Lib Dems wanted a referendum on PR but the Tories, knowing they'd lose out massively on seats on any PR system (as FPTP works in their favour) dumbed down their proposal to AV which in practice wouldn't weaken their hand.

I wasn't talking about campaigns I oppose as invalid. I was just talking about the nature of the campaigns and how they set up to appeal to emotions rather than facts.

See for example Cummings's ludicrous claim that a regional assembly would lead to less money for the NHS, which he repeated again in 2016.

Fixed that for you, chuck- anything beyond that is conjecture/wishful thinking.:ds:
Thanks chuck. I never made a claim about whether there was a majority for it or not, just that the option chosen was the least attractive for anyone.

Agree that Boris is making a pig's ear of it all but can you imagine the carnage if Corbyn had got elected.

Why do people keep bringing up an irrelevant hypothetical to deflect from the reality?

Tories have been in for 10 years now and life has been shit and getting worse for a lot of people during that time. Long before corona. They've had plenty of time to make things better and it's still 'yeah but can you imagine if Labour was in charge??!1!??'. The time for this being any kind of defence for them (if it ever was) has long since ended.

I'm happy you agree Johnson is being (or just is) incompetent but shifting the rest of your post to imagining how Labour may or may not have done instead is subtly and maybe subconsciously reinforcing the general letting him off the hook when he should be being held far more accountable.

Nothing personal for what it's worth Railway Blue, just an example on here of the narrative I've seen so many times elsewhere online and something I think is worth pointing out.

Life’s been shit for a lot of people the last 10 years, who exactly you speaking for? You’re moaning at one persons hypothetical but throwing quotes you can’t back up in, laughable.
