Agree ,Pools played very well.
It now begs the question of how many keep their place Saturday,or do we revert to type & reinstate players who've been awful the last few games.
Mitchell,Jones,Odisina & Goodwin should start against Lincoln.
Not going to argue about Mitchell, After all he,s a local lad. lol
And we all know just how good Timi is, Jones is a solid defender who can only prosper from the new set up.
Goodwin sometimes doesn't get the credit he deserves.

Having said that i think Cullen will start purely cause he,s a poacher and he,s a thinker his goals are proof of that.

I would say Mitchell, Timi, Crawford should definitely start. Jones would deserve it as well because I don’t think Ferguson has been up to his usual standard recently. Still not overly convinced of Goodwin even though he did put a shift in last night.

Anyone know if Sterry is suspended Saturday? He played last night despite getting sent off against FGR? Does the suspension only count in league games? Or does the pizza cup have his own rules etc? I assumed he would have a 3 game ban.

Suspension was picked up in the league, I assumed it must’ve counted towards all competitions, but because he played in pizza cup last night,

I wasn’t sure if that meant he was only suspended in league games, and would be able to play against Lincoln on Saturday.

According to the FA site, his suspension runs until the 4th, so he'll miss Exeter. The suspension is for '"all first team games" but I understand that the Papa John is treated separately.

Mind you, the same FA site reckons we've had a player called Jordan suspended for over five years!

We had Godwin-Malife sent off against Bristol Rovers on Saturday and he played in this on Tuesday. He’s banned for our next league game. So yeah, looks like it’s separate. Shame really, would be good to have got it out the way in a meaningless game.

We've missed Timi's pace in defence,Liddle & Byrne are far too slow to play together.
I'd start Goodwin with Cullen

I personally think it would be harsh to drop Molyneux, although he’s not a natural centre forward, he’s been one of our most consistent performers IMO.

A sh$te draw for us which hopefully gives us an incentive not to bother against Pompey

That’s that.

Carlisle United exit the EFL Trophy for the final time.

Weird feeling. I used to like this competition, we have some great memories, but I hate what the competition has become since the B teams entered so not bothered at all about how far we get.

At the same time though, there is a hint of sadness that we’re not going to be involved in this farce a next season and beyond due to our EFL membership ending at the end of the current season. It will be the FA Trophy for us from now on.

EFL Trophy fans, it’s thank you and good night

5 league one sides despatched this season. I've always thought (but didn't wanna come across all Billy big bollocks) that we were struggling in this league because the players we have are actually Championship level and are just sick of playing Tinpot clubs in a shite league.

Aren't you coming off the back of 3 wins in 4, beating two of the main candidates for the drop? I'd say on current form you're a lot less likely to go down than us.

Great, we will be two rounds behind!

Incredibly they have arranged our next round match at Cambridge for next Tuesday.
A definite incentive to lose to Pompey on Friday.

So apparently we will play either Wigan, Rotherham, Harrogate, Sutton, Charlton, Cambridge, Portsmouth, Exeter, Chelsea U21s or Arsenal U21s.

Not too bothered which one of those beats us to be honest.

Quarter final draw

Rotherham United v Exeter City/Portsmouth/Cambridge United

Sutton United v Harrogate Town

Hartlepool United
v Charlton Athletic

Arsenal U21/Chelsea U21 v Wigan Athletic

Well at least one side from this division will be in the semifinals.

We only played Harrogate the weekend before Christmas and were comfortable enough in a 1-0 win. Saying that we were perhaps fortunate not to see Tuesdays game go to penalties, and another fixture in January will be tough (this game is scheduled for the week beginning January 24th) so thankfully it’s at home.

Whilst not our main priority by any stretch of the imagination, going far in this competition was an aim for the season and we have a decent shout of reaching the semifinals I feel and thus one step closer to one of my long term hopes which is to see Sutton at Wembley.

All i can say is, If we knock out another LGE 1 Side we should
Be given automatic promotion to Lge 1 cause we have
Proven to be good enough.

Anything that keeps us far enough away from Salport County.

Contrived to lose a game which we were winning in the 89th minute. Same thing happened 2 seasons ago.
Hope it spurs them on rather than deflates them.
Could have used the winnings but I wasn't hopeful of beating Cambridge and Rotherham away anyway.

1-0 win for Sutton over Harrogate tonight with a goal from captain Craig Eastmond on his 300th appearance for Sutton. Probably the better team over the 90 minutes.

Yes, it’s a crap competition but we’re 90 minutes from Wembley, and the achievement of the 2nd of my 3 long term Sutton United dreams.

As much as I hate this competition, and despise the fact of u23s teams in it, the fact we are potentially only 90 mins away from Wembley is great, I don’t think we are going to get relegated despite how bad we have been in the league, because of the fact no one below us seems to be able to put a win together either. The chance for our first ever game at Wembley would be great.

We are clearly just in the wrong league…
