Yes Shelvey is one of England’s best direct passers of the ball. You need a central midfielder like him next to Dier

Jack Cork called up - clearly Southgate doesn't rate Shelvey and not prepared to give Wilshire a chance to test his fitness.

Wilshere hasn't been playing for Arsenal. No point in Southgate calling him up for two friendlies. We all know what he can bring to England if he's at his best. It's up to him to fight his way back into Arsenal's first team or to get out on loan in January and prove what he can do on a weekly basis. If he can't, he won't be going to the tournament anyway.

In the half-arsed Arsenal teams.

I don't see what difference that makes, unless you're seriously suggesting that a match-fit Jack Wilshere is not a better CM than Jake Livermore just because he's not starting in the Premier League for Arsenal yet.

I'd happily see Wilshere in the England squad, he would walk into the team during the 5 weeks of the season he's actually fully fit.

He's tried to call Drinkwater up who has hardly kicked a ball as well this season but isn't interested in calling up Wilshere, just ridiculous from Southgate. Also Livermore called up again who couldn't even keep possession against fucking Malta but gets chance after chance, surely Shelvey or Ward-Prowse would be the better option or an half fit Wilshere than bloody Jake Livermore ffs.

Jack Wilshere, fit and on form, is a must start. We saw what happened when we took Wilshere to the Euros half-fit and lacking match practice. He was shit. He's played a few semi reserve games for Arsenal and now everyone thinks he should be back in. I've seen a few of his games and he's not impressed in many. There was one stand out performance but the rest were average. If he can't get into the Arsenal side ahead of Xhaka and Elneny, there must be something not quite right. Would I have called up Livermore? No. I'd have given someone like Tom Davies a chance.

Everton supporters have turned against Davies this season I think, given their terrible form.

If true that's a real shame. Davies dragged Everton to their comeback win over us almost on his own (Niasse finishing the goals off tbf) - without Davies we probably win that game. He's been a cracking little talent whenever I've seen him for Everton and England.

I know the U21s are playing this weekend and Davies will be central to them, there's an argument that he's better off staying at that level for now, but he'd certainly offer more than Cork IMHO.

The Europa League is semi-reserve football?

Davies is probably the fifth best central midfielder in the U21s at best.

Southgate doesn't think he'd be the right player for the squad.

Southgate said: "(Cork is) playing very well in a team that are playing well. He has played at every level for England previously.

"Danny Drinkwater I did speak to earlier in the week but he feels he's not fit enough to play.

"I think Jonjo is a different type of player – plays deeper, receives very deep, plays almost in a quarterback position for his club.

"We were needing something a little bit different for these games, so I had a good chat with (Burnley boss) Sean Dyche as well about Jack and he's delighted with what he's doing and he's a great character who has worked with a lot of the squad in the past. It's a really great moment for him."

Terrible fans Everton, they can't wait to get on a player's back

Based off Friday's performance, our kids have the ability but they need the experience of PL and ideally European Football (Preferably UCL over EL). Personally I would like to see Southgate tweak his version of 3-5-2 to match that of Spurs who tend to play more of a 3-5-1-1...

Butland/Pickford

Stones -- Cahill/Smalling/Maguire -- Jones

Walker/Tripper -- Rose

Rose Loftus Cheek/Lallana -- Dier -- Winks

Dele Alli

Kane

Can't understand the Young call up, he has been playing well for his club but will he be played in that position for England?

Well, he did and made an immediate impact with his block tackle and then providing the cross for the Solanke chance... :emb:

The 22-year-old is eligible to play for a number of countries. He has played for Jamaica's Under-23 team and could also represent Belgium and Malta.

Can we develop our own English players rather than stealing other countries?

I would prefer not to go down this route, but the solution should be to get rid of the grandparent rule altogether, not for England to pick and choose when to disadvantage ourselves and when not to.
