What, you look down on handicapped people? I don't.
Look, there're a lot of handicaps out there. Some people are hypersensitive to electricity and can't have mobile phones without suffering seizures. A handicap has been defined as a diversion from what is otherwise the human norm, psychically or mentally. Romantic infatuation with your own gender would fit that category, wouldn't you say? You would agree, that technically homosexuality is a mental construct, right? So, I've seen it described by some psychologists as a mild mental handicap, them eggheads not meaning it as a negative in any way. It's an alternative perspective, but not an unreasonable one, I'd have thought.
And the principle for LGBTs in a decent progressive society is the same as with any other handicap: Let people live as decent a life as possible. (Who the hell bashes handicapped people, you could ask.) So, let 'em have their dance clubs (where people don't get gunned down by some lunatic closet case!), let them marry each other, all that stuff. (I don't know if those inflatable penisses at the prides are so stricly necessary, but that's obviously a counter response to the bigotry of past decades.)
