A better start than me ;)

I had an outrageous mid season though before a poor end. 93 points is your target.

Also I dismantled Crawley 4-1 at home, who were doing very poor for the season, who then sacked their manager. I have just received a job interview from them

Huge game at home to 2nd place Burton next, win this and I will actually feel we have a realistic chance of a double-promotion

Huge result, Burton took an early lead with a goal that shouldn't have gone in, shot straight at keeper but he couldn't keep out. A two footed challenge by their player turned the game at the 19th min however, and it was all us as we used our advantage to go attacking to score some good goals.

FM2.PNG

Very healthy league position so far, but the top 4 spots are tight. Hopefully we keep our good form to stay in the top two.

That's some pretty rapid progress. Any tips on how to accelerate through the leagues? I feel like my fate lies beyond the Vanarama Conference.
Not really, just keep your tactics simple, use the loan market, use pitchside team talks, and choose your job offers well! Oh and be patient. I lost twice in the playoffs with Brackley before finally getting promoted, and I endured two very dull midtable seasons with Bolton before going up.

Oh also use this thread if you're having any specific problems, usually someone has the answers!

Cheers for the advice. I think the point about patience is something I need to be mindful of. I've pretty much been on the edge of the play-offs all throughout my second season at Macclesfield, without ever being able to solidify my spot. Frustrating!

Ahh, the pains of being not quite good enough for Europe. Lots of players getting offers from clubs currently in Europe and they are wanting to jump ship.

Jordan Obita wanted by Liverpool though managed to persuade him to stay until the Summer. My most consistent player (Darder) has gone to Atletico Madrid for £17.5m after he was unhappy I stopped him going to Tottenham. My striker is wanted by Inter. Had to sell my backup right back to Villa too because he wasn't happy.

The Watford goalkeeper I signed for £11m looks class. Aged 17 and already decent Prem. If he doesn't break into the first team this season he'll almost certainly be good enough next season. I'll ignore my other pre-made January signings as they are terrible. Just need to find a replacement DM for Darder now.

In the league i'm 8th, weirdly cannot do anything against the top 7 teams, but I comfortably beat almost all the teams below me. Sort of in mid-table on my own.

Injuries. Tonnes of them. Summed up by my new loan signing breaking his ankle in his first training session and out for 4 months.

Yep, I'm currently Bilbao and have 6 first teamers out with injuries. Pretty bad especially when I can't really sign anyone!

I've just bought this tonight, haven't played FM for 3 years... I imagine I'm about to get raped by the engine.

 Anyone else prefer the Smat that got stuck in the Conference North for 10 seasons or whatever?

Its a lot different, TB, but very good if you can devote time to it. Cannot wait for summer

My record after 18 games read -

Won - 13 | Drew - 5 | Lost - 0 | Goals For - 40 | Goals Against - 12 |

Easy management, ay ;)

How many goals has Akinde got?

Also my team suddenly has a strange habit for 1-1 draws, that's 3 games in a row now for them. I sit 10 points clear of 4th anyway now :)

Had a crazy 2020/2021 season with Derby. Finished 7th but managed to storm to Europa League victory, getting me a Champions League place for next term.

Barclays Premier League_ Overview Stages.png Schedule_ Senior Fixtures.png

Managed to break-even in my transfer dealings, Carlos was a magnificent signing and scored many goals, El-Chikh was a mid season replacement for Markovic and Dong-Sik is the best regen i've ever used.

Transfers_ Transfer History.png

Carlos scored an incredible 35 goals in all comps, fantastic purchase. Carrasco also chipped in with a few and Milner at 35 is still an assist machine

Squad_ Players Players.png

Just a few of my good players from the season

Bilal Ould-Chikh_ Overview Attributes.png Carlos_ Overview Attributes.png Lee Dong-Sik_ Overview Attributes.png Yannick Ferreira Carrasco_ Overview Attributes.png

Other notes are i've made Derby the 12th richest club in the world, surpassing Bayern, with a value of £412 Million, probably because of tv money mainly. On a sour note though despite Champions League football, Carrasco wants to leave, and i've managed to convince Arsenal to pay £40 MILLION for him, so he will be leading a line with 43 goal man Memphis Depay and Andre Gomes who got 25 from midfield. Scary.

Need some advice people.

My Macclesfield side just went 16 games unbeaten, but far too many of those have been draws, particularly away from home. In fact, all but one of the away games were draws.

The unbeaten run finally came to an end with consecutive away defeats.

The games seem to follow a similar pattern; I take the lead around 20 minutes, opposition equalise around 75 minutes, game ends 1-1. I've tried telling them to concentrate at 70 minutes, didn't seem to help. Tried tweaking tactics to be more defensive minded. Little seems to work.

Anyone got any advice? I play a 4-5-1 formation with an anchor man and defensive BWM so we're already set up to stay solid. I do ask them to close down more, would that be an issue in terms of defensive shape?

Attack earlier.

I consolidate a 2/3 goal lead before tightening up - push on for more.

Akinde has around 14, Eaves has around the same.

This 5-3-2 is working a treat.

Probably putting too much emphasis on defence, try and play an advanced playmaker if you don't already to link forward play better.

In-game team talk 'Tighten up' sometimes helps. Do you end up playing on the counter or still try to control the game?

Lower your playing tempo on instructions too, always the main bit of advice I have for seeing out a game.

Finished the season with Feyenoord. Wrapped up 3rd place with a 1-0 away to runaway league winners Ajax in the penultimate game of the season. I then played Ajax again just 4 days later in the Dutch cup final and, thanks mainly to a John-Paul Boetius hat trick, recorded a 5-2 win. Unfortunately the club are skint and have decreased my wage budget from £205k to £180k and given me a transfer budget of £250k. I have two high earners I want to sell who are both back up (Kenneth Vermeer and Karim El Ahmadi, top earner on £20k per week and he can't get a game), but my best CM Jordie Classie has put in a transfer request so he could be on his way too

Is that first season? Feyenoord seems an interesting one.

Also, a sign of how good Blackpool have been in my save… Jack Redshaw has just broken a record for scoring 15 goals in a season (not even out of November yet), previously held by Nathan Delfouneso in 2014.

Thanks for the advice. I do play an advanced playmaker, but he probably struggles to have too much of an impact if all the midfielders around him are sitting too deep.

I'll give it a go. Thanks again.

I play the whole game on counter. I've found that if I start on anything more adventurous than that, I tend to go behind quite early.

Oh Fuck.

The Newport County job has become available, they're top of League 2. I declared my interest [bit cheeky] and they responded by saying they would be interested in me, but are unable to afford paying compensation. Should I quit Macclesfield and risk it? Oh Fuck.

Hmm, from previous experience it never really materialises. If you're looking for a successful season I'd stick it out, personally.

Thanks, took your advice and I'm glad I did. Some managers with more experience/higher reputations were in for it so I doubt I'd have stood much chance.

Just beaten Woking 2-0 in my first away game since my earlier post. Followed all the advice, moved from 'counter' to 'control' after taking the lead in the 16th minute, scored again in the 35th minute and then just lowered the tempo and retained possession. Seemed to work well so thanks!

Yeah first season, although I'm playing FM14. Feyenoord is a good game, the Dutch league isn't that difficult to win going off previous games. One of my favourite games I did on FM12 was saving Feyenoord from relegation on the last day and then winning the league the next season. They have very little money in this game though, although I'm hoping Europa League might boost the coffers a bit. Badly need a cheap striker though, it's the one area in the first XI I'm badly lacking

Well my second season at Whitehawk fell apart completely. In the last 16 games we only managed 12 points. :bl:

We were in the play off's all season until the last ten games and our collapse saw us finish in 11th, lower than last season with less points and more goals conceded. We conceded 78 in total. :dis:

I've managed to keep the core of my good players another year so hopefully with a settled squad we can push on next season, if I stay of course. We have had some positives with my strikers Maskall, Morris and Egan all managing double figures and all of them are under 23. I just need to get he defence sorted really as it's let us right down this season.
