They were gobbling up every cross we put in. Their centre backs won everything in the air. We were toothless in the sense that we kept trying and failing at the same thing and not trying a different approach. Maybe we don’t have the players to come up with something different which is something that needs addressed in the summer.

Have to admit was surprised you took Patrick off. Always thought he was likely to create an opening while he was on and after that it gave us more confidence to try coming forward a bit.

Listening to DC interview sounds like we’ll be experimenting a bit more in the final four games with different players and formations.

This is what this team is about. Grit and determination to grind out the results which I think will now see us promoted automatically.

I’m still in a bit of shock that we played so well today, especially against a team bang in form that we haven’t beaten for nearly 40 years.
It’s a funny old game.

Playoffs our only hope now. Those subs baffled me. Just got to try and get a couple of wins from the final 4 to generate some momentum to firstly get in the playoffs and secondly go into the playoffs with some sort of confidence.

I agree, especially about the subs.
That first half was dire. At least in the second half we hit the woodwork and actually forced the keeper into making a save. Good solid defensive performance the only positive for me.

What makes this result even worse is that Cheltenham and thingymyjigs both lost.

Yeah although about 12 of them were in one move where Gilks just made save after save haha. We arguably had the most clear cut ones too missing 2 from 3 yards out. You definitely deserved it today. We haven’t been cut open like that since probably Port Vale in December

We really aren’t very good against teams who play 2 strikers that work hard and are physically dominant. We get bullied in those types of games like we did today. We don’t have an outball when we get pressed like that as our front guys aren’t very big. We need to sign a physical striker or tall wide man in the summer who can hold the ball up/win an aerial battle in games like that to get us up the pitch a bit quicker and beat the press. Your 2 were fantastic at it. Definitely need to sort that out next season whichever division we are in.

Also have to say that midfielder that scored the first goal was excellent all game.

Walsall haven't conceded many recently and we struggle for goals. Not feeling great about this one anymore, albeit we have hit the post and generally not started badly.

I hope that was the start of the new manager bounce rather then being as good as it gets. We did start better today then the last few weeks, but then fell away and in terms of quality it was a pretty poor game. We still aren’t creating a lot from open play, but at least showed the spirit to keep going. Scunthorpe haven’t been great either time I’ve seen them so in many ways a good game to have today given the run we’ve been on/low confidence.

That being said, a big three points and a win on Tuesday would go a long way to securing top 7 and maybe give us a sniff of the top 3.
