I don't understand this.

Book readers on Reddit are complaining everything is happened too quickly and that they are rushing through it, yet some people feel they are going too slow?

things are happening and the pacing has picked up but as far as story progression goes it seems to just be creating more tangents and sub plots rather than beginning to tie things together. We now have the Iron Islands stuff and if you look at casting for this season there's also the Tarly clan wading in at some point, the Brotherhood without banners etc...it's widening it's focus rather than narrowing it and if you can only concentrate on 3 or 4 of these an episode, story progression will continue to move slowly (unless you proper fuck shit up and find a way to get Dany sailing into King's Landing 2 episodes after she's with the Dothraki). I've been quite impressed with the first 2 episodes of this season compared to a very poor last season but if they really are serious about 13 episodes after this next 8 then you're going to have a 21 episode clusterfuck.

Yeah was thinking that meself

kinda makes sense to me. the mad king raping his mother has been referenced, the amount of times tywin gave him a variation of "you're no son of mine" before tyrion offed him, the dragons accepting and trusting him immediately.

interested to see what snow is like now he's back, and if his personality has been altered in any way. we know returning from the dead comes with a sacrifice in this universe, "every time i come back, i'm a bit less. pieces of you get chipped away" as beric said. wondering how he'll deal with that little prick olly.

was good to see theon finally get a hug and some forgiveness, poor bugger. i'd assume "home" is the iron islands since they cut to that location straight after that scene but i wonder if he'll be off to winterfell shortly. think he'll have a big role to play with regards to ramsay.

also, double wall kill :box: good episode.

I'm enjoying it so far.

I like Ramsay's character and think he's a good antagonist, I mean I'm not rooting for him or anything but I'm don't think he's uninteresting personally, though I agree with Jockney that he is excessively cruel, I feel they missed an opportunity to add something further to his character had he shown mercy on Walda and the baby and maybe just banished them back to the Riverlands. On that note though, if Walder discovers the truth then Ramsay will have turned a useful ally against himself, I can see him opening that big bridge for the Lannister armies to march freely on the north.

Loving Tyrion's bonding with the dragons, be awesome to see him emerge as a contender for the iron throne.

Has to be. The dragon scene confirmed it

Don't know if it confirmed it necessarily, but it's certainly a possibility.

The only thing I don't like about the series so far is that I think the only reason Bran is there is to 'fill in the blanks' from the books that the show never got round to explaining. I assume the Tower of Joy scene will be his flashback as well. I just hope there's a little more to him this series than just an information filler.

100% saw the second Ramsay deed happening, but not the first!

Re. Jaime- do we assume he is getting out of that little pickle in the Sept?
I didn't see it as a pickle myself. More a show of power from the high sparrow

does jon snow need to come back? genuine question. it's been three years since i read the last book. he is an important character to us but i don't remember him being such an important character to everybody else that they would have resorted to necromancy to bring him back.

also he is really, really boring. can him and samwell perma-die of hypothermia or something.

good episode that, obviously the big shock wasn't a big shock but the other one

Ramsey being an utter bastard again
caught me off guard a little.

It also seems to me that the whole shit about only having 13 episodes after this season is bollocks unless they proper accelerate things. This series so far hasn't moved anything on in 2 hours, just restored equilibrium if anything - and set up a whole new Greyjoy arc. They're going to have to start annihilating houses and characters left, right and centre to finish this season with any sort of end in sight.

Well they have been, haven't they? Two episodes in and Roose, Walda and their newborn are dead and Ramsey is running the North. Doran and Trystane are dead and the Sandsnakes are presumably running Dorne. Sansa is free with a strong claim to the North and with Brienne and Pod in her service. Jon Snow is back from the dead. Balon is dead and there'll be a new leader of the Iron Islands. The dragons are free.

Loads of stuff has happened, I don't know why people are saying it hasn't. Have you all forgotten what the start of seasons are usually like? If anything so much stuff has happened so quickly that we haven't had time to build any intrigue, which is the real problem in my opinion.

Yeah was thinking that meself

That's the theory. One Targaryen for each dragon.

He is, in the eyes of the Davos and co braintrust, the one man who has a credible shot at uniting the Wildlings/Watch/misc Northerners in an attempt to thwart the advances of the soon to arrive ice monster army. Which I would think counts as fairly important.

Stuff happening isn't the argument. None of the things you've mentioned have dramatically brought any of those arcs closer to their conclusion. With Roose in charge it looked like the Boltons were close to getting their comeuppance at the hands of the Lannisters and now with Ramsey they're marching North to kill the remaining Starks (while also probably getting their comeuppance). Sandsnakes are running Dorne but now what, is that it? (probably should be) or will they pop up in King's Landing looking for more revenge? Everything you've mentioned there is fun and I really like the season thus far but I hope they aren't starting to run wild creatively with no book material left, and things suddenly switch course because Benioff and Weiss have their own ideas.

All of that is irrelevant if the '13 more episodes' comment is bullshit.

Without knowing where the story arcs are going I don't see how we're in a position to claim what has moved the story forward and what hasn't, especially when it comes to events like that. Those deaths could easily be pivotal.

100% saw the second Ramsay deed happening, but not the first!

I was the opposite actually! I think all along, Roose completely underestimated how batshit mental Ramsay is and how far he'll go to get what he wants. I saw the second coming...but then thought I saw a chink of humanity where he was going to back down.

Ramsay is an odd one, as I played the GoT game before I watched any of the series, where Ramsay is the biggest antagonist, so even when he first turned up in the series, I'd already had a glimpse of his character in that. Great character though, we've moved on quite quickly from mental masochistic bastard son to ambitious Warden of the North.

Great episode all round though, couple of nasty surprises, a few really nice little character moments, and a lot of storyline movement.

Enjoyed the start to the season so far. Apart from Dorne of course which has been pretty terrible all round

It probably won't be confirmed either way, but I doubt Tyrion is a Targ. There are quite a lot of potential hints in the books which added up make you wonder, but I don't recall any set up for that twist in the show as of yet. And the author has said that the 3rd head of the dragon doesn't have to be a Targaryen.

Surely the '3rd head' of the dragon will be Bran warging into one?

Which is another big problem for book fans I think. They don't just get spoiled by what they see, they get spoiled by omission too.

Have to wonder how important that reveal was if it's not going to be in the show.
