Who is that? Looks a little like a young Richard Dawkins.

I'm looking forward to it, although I'm concerned what effect it will have on the books given that the TV series is now mostly ahead of what Martin has written and published. There seems to be some confusion as to whether season 6 will contain spoilers for Winds Of Winter. Although, without taking the TV series off on a complete tangent to the books, I can't see how it can't. We could end up with a situation where the TV series is based upon the characters and setting of the books, without following the storyline in even the most tenuous fashion, which for the most part is at least what happens at the moment.

Martin hasn't handled this well at all. If he'd used half the time in the last five year he's spent pissing around travelling the world for book conventions and PR opportunities actually writing instead, he'd likely have had the next two books finished and published by now. Assuming the Winds Of Winter is released next year, which is now looking likely from what I've read, that will be 4 books in 17 years.

As somebody who can't read, I don't care about the books. Literature be damned.

Seems like the writers only want to do 7 episodes for season 7 and 6 for season 8.

They pointed to the fact that it's more like shooting movies than a TV series and so takes too much time.

Generally the 10 episode per season thing has worked well I'd say. Some stuff does need to be fleshed out where I feel if they did 6 or 7 episodes they'd try and have moment of the season clips every episode therefore making them less shocking then in previous seasons are you start expecting them.

I think it is negotiating tactic with HBO. HBO want another 5 seasons to pad it out whilst D&D only want 13 more episodes. HBO and D&D then reach a compromise to get another 2 seasons with 10 episodes each.

I suppose it's still 23 episodes to cover what would be the last two books. Must be moving at a rapid rate in S6 then!

Without the books as source material I suppose they only have the bare bones of the plot to work with. Better to condense it into the major moments than risk going off-book too much which hasn't worked out great in the past.

Oh no, here we go, leaks have appeared.

Two big leaks, one I like that is very interesting and has been theorised before.

The other will make a lot of my fellow book reader VERY angry and anti D&D once again. I will withhold judgement till I see where they go with it, but I can see why other more... elitist book readers will find the events abhorrent. But I am a bit of a show apologist and I like giving it a chance to see where it is headed first.

Trying to cram in a rewatch of Season 5 before tomorrow... two more episodes left. Will get them done before watching episode 1 of season 6.

But yeah, just did the fucking great battle at Hardhome. Fuckin' SCENES.

Meh, bit of a flat opener. They have so many storylines to try and cover and kickstart so it just ended up feeling a little disjointed and all over the place. Felt similar to how I felt about most Better Call Saul episodes... flat and not really overly gripping, but still enjoyable. My two grievances are, what happened to the attack dogs? And how did the sank snakes get on the boat? First is probably a editing error, second is likely lazy writing.

The whole Doran thing makes me worried if I they go in the direction with them that I think they will. I will see how it plays out first. Doran and Dorne itself was not my favourite of storylines in the books so I am not too distraught. The whole Mel thing was highly theorized and I am not too surprised at the reveal.

Regarding the plot hole, interesting theory here https://www.reddit.com/r/asoiaf/com...k_regarding_melisandres_ruby_necklace/cisasro . Although I will say it's not clear whether the necklace gives her youth or some kind of potion that we see on the table. Either way, Thoros said that he revived Beric when he was at his lowest point. Mel seems pretty low here, so Jon...?

The whole Dorne plot is shit but I really think they are just trying to nip that in the bud by killing off so many characters. It's a shame because Doran, Tristane (oh look I'm just going to stand with my back to a girl who said she's here to kill me) and Areo are more interesting than Ellaria and the Sand Snakes ('you're a greedy bitch'...ughhh), and gave Dorne a bit of balance. Hopefully not seeing so much Dorne is to make way for the rest of the plot, and making the characters dislikeable is to make us somehow root for the Lannisters again?

Haven't you seen what those dogs do to people? They run away when they see them.

Overall it was a decent start. I liked the stuff at the Wall and Sansa's bits, not so much Dorne. As always with first episodes, it's really just setting the scene again.

People have brought this up a bit but, when you consider that they revealed nobody in Dorne actually liked the royal family it's entirely plausible they simply got on another boat, sailed after them and got on the boat to kill Tristane when they saw Jaime had left.

RUBBISH first episode
feels like 400 separate plotlines given 10 seconds a piece, everything being drip-fed

probably half the characters and their story arcs I just cannot be doing with at all anymore

Normally they totally miss out a few characters stories in the first episode. I can see why people are miffed with all the little snippets

Ultimately the only story people cared about is Jon snow and that got the most air time so alls good

This is turning into bad fan fiction now D&D are running out of content to work from.
