You just know that "I choose violence" will be a new meme.

Looks like there's a massive Bolton vs Wildlings fight in there.

Even for non-book readers, it's the least shocking twist in history. He's been a main part of the marketing and countless newspapers have reported him filming scenes. You'd have to be out of touch to be surprised by it.

Are they not? It's a big budget, big canvas, fantasy cum sword & sandal epic w/ lots of sex and ultraviolence, innit?

fair point. maybe it would be better to say i wish they'd been more honest about it earlier. the exploitative depictions of sexual violence of the last couple of seasons has turned me off.

EW caught up with the producers, who had recently watched all 10 of the final cuts for this season’s episodes, and wanted to know which part of Season 6 was the most exciting for them? Benioff was unequivocal:

The whole season. Dan and I talk about this a lot. This is not us trying to hype it. Usually there’s an episode or two we’re kind of nervous about, that didn’t turn out as well as we hoped. This season there is not a weak episode. We had great directors who knew what they were doing, paired with excellent [directors of photography]. We thought at the script stage it might be our strongest season. Then the episodes came in better than we hoped.

We’re always reluctant to say it’s ‘the best season yet’ because so much of that is in the eyes of the beholder. And Dan and I are so close to it that it’s impossible to be unbiased. But that’s my sense – watching them all together now, this is the best one we’ve done. It’s also the one I’m proudest of, because it was the hardest.

Probably saying that because they've actually had to write most of it themselves, naturally they'll feel more proud.

Sadly for us, when they've done this up to now, most of it has come across as bad fan fiction.

Meh, I love the books but still enjoy the show slightly more than it.

Think I must just prefer D&D's writing style, GRRM is a genius but I did find myself getting bored a lot more often during the books than the show.

Incredibly harsh considering it is one of the highest rated shows on television. In some parts of the story they have surpassed the quality of the books and in others they have dipped below (sand snakes).

Nah I agree with Jordan, any time the show writers have deviated too much away from the books it hasn't gone well (so far). And now they're out of source material. I would imagine that GRRM has told them what the major plot points are in this book/season though beforehand.

Do you disagree that the writer and creator of one of the most highly acclaimed book series of modern times that has been turned into a blockbuster TV show isn't a genius and has earned him millions, isn't in some sense a genius?

I agree that their forays into taking the story in their own directions (as well as a seemingly useless Spanish filming unit) were hit and miss at best, but It think Jordan's interpretation of those quotes is a weird one. I don't see a story being more your own as cause for you to worry about it's quality any less, probably the contrary, if anything.
