People always moan about the first episode but what do they actually expect? It's always been just a way of re-establishing the characters for the series.

Was a little flat imo however to be expected with first episode, only thing I really would have liked a bit more was a more holy shit moment to finish the episode, yeah the thing with Melisandre was surprising but didn't have a big reaction to it.

Surprised by the response here to be honest. There was some parts that could have been tightened up what with convenient 'TV writing' type coincidences and time leaps but overall it was very good I thought. I was never bored or not entertained.

Not to say it wasn't entertaining, just like I said something felt flat, maybe because Brienne/Sansa stuff was the action/conflict involved really.
Doran being killed was over so quickly, that I felt was the biggest surprise, imo that should have been moved to the ending of the episode with the Melisandre scene just before it.

It wasn't bad TV, it was just perfunctory. A reminder of where everyone was when we saw them last, with relatively little to advance things beyond that point.

It's the show's greatest strength and its greatest curse/challenge - the broad canvas and disparate plot strands (tho presumably they are gonna have to start becoming less disparate pretty soon) give it scope and heft, but it also means the writers have got half a dozen or more narrative plates to keep spinning at any one time. That makes the finales/openers in which they feel obliged to feature most or all of them clunky and bitty, and serves to highlight the somewhat dubiously elastic qualities of Westerosi time and distance, in which some characters seem to be hurtling across a continent in 90 mins, whilst others are obliged to twiddle their thumbs in a single field for 8 months.

Just noticed that Drogon is basically just Charizard. Looking forward to the episode where Daenerys gains his full trust by thawing him out of a block of ice.

Macclesfield Town/Manchester City. It's complicated.

I spent most of the episode saying 'oh yeah' to myself as I was reminded by various bits and bobs. Episode One is always going to be little more than an expanded 'previously on'.

Im finally all caught up so I can actually read this thread now!

Like has been said, season openers tend to be a bit slow in most shows, and especially this, with them generally having to re-establish where we are in the multiple storylines.

Loved the irony of Brienne coming to Sansa's rescue...defo wishing she'd listened to her last time she said she was going to protect her instead of running off and ending up Ramsay's pincushion...

Dont like this having to wait for the next episode lark though, I watched the previous 5 seasons in about 6 weeks

are you on a mission to prove to the rest of the board that you don't know what irony means.

She's referring to the armour she was wearing. It was very irony.

Getting rescued by someone once and telling them where to go, only to go through absolute hell and be rescued by them again? Fairly ironic. Don't be a nob.

That is not irony.

"a state of affairs or an event that seems deliberately contrary to what one expects and is often wryly amusing as a result."

It would have been ironic if Ramsey had inadvertently rescued Sansa from Brienne despite the latter's noble intentions, or something.

jaime's been turned into a proper wet blanket in the tv series. i want the book jaime back. the jaime that told
cersei where to go when she begged him to save her.

also will someone just fuckin' bump ramsey off. excessively cruel characters are not interesting in the slightest. people miss tywin... can anyone honestly say they miss joffrey?

good episode that, obviously the big shock wasn't a big shock but the other one

Ramsey being an utter bastard again
caught me off guard a little.

It also seems to me that the whole shit about only having 13 episodes after this season is bollocks unless they proper accelerate things. This series so far hasn't moved anything on in 2 hours, just restored equilibrium if anything - and set up a whole new Greyjoy arc. They're going to have to start annihilating houses and characters left, right and centre to finish this season with any sort of end in sight.

He is headed to the Riverlands this season so I expect him to turn into his book counterpart later in the season.

Excellent episode, loved every second. I was glued to the screen.

I don't understand this.

Book readers on Reddit are complaining everything is happened too quickly and that they are rushing through it, yet some people feel they are going too slow?
