Dean Smith celebrated a year in charge this week - apparently that's enough to make him the 8th longest serving manager in the league! Just makes everything seem a bit ridiculous!

His record isn't that great, aside from the great run of victories at the end of last season when there wasn't much to play for, we've not been that good under him, but I'm happy with mid-table security at the moment. It's just a bit of a shame that such a brilliant core of the team ended up being a bit wasted.

18 victories in 48 games is ok, but a 38% win percentage with some of the players we have isn't really good enough. If the board go out and back him with a couple more players then things really would need to improve, as the core of this team is much better than that win rate.

Tribunal fee for Egan has been decided at £400k, rising to £500k based on apperences, with a 20% sell on.

Absolute bargain, first time in a long time we've come out of a tribunal decision on the "winning" side

Yep that 20% sell on will be tasty for the Gills in the future though.

both shelvey and dummett have had their red cards rescinded after fridays comedy show. hopefully steve martin is dropped from refereeing duty while he learns how to do his job.

Shelveys was a red though, petulant kick out.

That is pretty poor form by the Football League, thrown one of their own referees under the bus.

Let's be clear, we won the game so I couldn't care less what happens now, but in my opinion they were both correct decisions. Shelvey kicked out at Lansbury off the ball. Lansbury made a dogs dinner of it but either way, it is a red card.

Dummett's may be harsher but he has made no intention to play the ball and even though he probably didn't mean to foul Lansbury, he has. It is even more blatant than the first in my eyes. Lansbury's control was poor so he was looking for it, but regardless it's a foul.

The referee had a tough night but I don't think he got much wrong. Newcastle had calls for a pen which I think should have been given to be honest, as they were (correctly) disallowed a goal for an identical foul.

I think it's a shambles that they've stitched up their own referee twice and it's clearly one rule for Newcastle and another for the rest of us plebs.

Still, makes the win even funnier in light of the Geordies crying all over Twitter, which has been great.

Dummett's was never ever a red card. It was a coming together/tangle of legs that Lansbury was looking for. The rules state that it should only be a red in those circumstances if the foul is dangerous or deliberate, neither of which it looked like.

I think the rule is if there is no intention to play the ball, but could well be completely wrong there too.

I think in changing the rules there's still a grey area. I suspect they ultimately mean someone basically blatantly hacking down an opponent who's about to score or handballing on the line etc, but they're left with ones like this. Based on their decision, and I agree that those sort of fouls shouldn't be a red, but the wording is confusing in that case as I'd say by the letter of the law, he didn't make a genuine attempt to get the ball, and thus a red could be justified.

Re: Dummett's one, Lansbury is already on his way down, and is most of the way down, before Dummett makes contact, so by the letter of the law it's not even a foul.

Shelvey is more likely a red card, but as an off the ball insident isn't a penalty, it's a drop ball.

agreed. kicking out at opponents off the ball should be met with a red card. which is why lansbury should have also gone prior to shelvey returning the favour. it was literally the same offense but far more aggressive and dangerous. there was a foul in our disallowed goal too but it certainly wasn't clark committing it.

let's be real. the referee has been thrown under the bus because he was fucking shit from start to finish in front of the sky cameras. he barely got anything right. he's been torn to shreds by pundits, the media and former referees and the pressure was on for them to act. worst performance i can remember seeing.

Shocking, they overturn that but wouldn't overturn Forestieri's blatantly unfair sending off at Hull last season? Big club bias again.

Back to more cheerful matters, we've made today our Christmas charity day and players have been sent out to various charities across the city, the club are posting it all over twitter some cracking pictures of kids enjoying themselves in difficult circumstances.

Diving wanker dressed as an elf at Bluebell Wood is a highlight.

Cellino to be banned for 18 months. Should allow for a smooth transition over to Radrizzani.

I see Brighton have announced a loss of over 25 million for the year. More than doubling the year before. Seems a fair amount that. Imperative they go up?

Not when QPR haven't been fined for their ridiculous losses yet. Seems to be a few clubs starting to ignore FFP as it has no teeth.

We still seem to be complying with it, but Chansiri seems to have many loopholes to get around it.

Have they still not? That's been ongoing for years now. We paid up our (comparatively small few million) fine quick, like good little boys.

As for Brighton, I see they were able to write that loss down on what it actually was through 'asset depreciation' such as the value of the stadium. Clever accounting and all that, guess everyone does it to some extent?

What leg have Cellino or Fawaz got to stand on though? Two clubs ran into the ground whilst consistently finishing 15th in the Championship. There's no complication with Promotion/Relegation to the Premier League thrown in like there is with QPR, I was hopeful such a thing wouldn't "complicate" things but it seems like it has which is disappointing.

I don't think everyone else got away with it, there's only 5 clubs that have failed it and four have faced sanctions. I fully expect us to be facing some sort of sanction soon enough but unlike yourselves, Forest, Fulham and Blackburn we've actually tried to get our house in order before throwing money around.

FFP is dead now, when you can lose £39m (and that's not all costs as expenses like youth facilities/staff are not included in the calculations) then it may as well not exist.

You can lose £20m a season now and be perfectly fine passing FFP..

I think we might be having an embargo over January. But I am surprised with how long this has been going on. It has gone on so long that I forgot about it. Did any other teams that gott relegated have the same issue?

Chinese siblings eyeing up a 75% share bid for Reading, they were both part of the failed bid for Hull in the Summer.

Doesn't sound too good to me. Also if true, would be four owners in 4.5 years.. like a revolving door.
Does this mean there will be another one of these?

This is a random one - Trevor Watkins to become Nottm Forest's new Chief Exec.

Bournemouth fan who headed up our supporter trust ownership and ran AFCB for a period in the mid-late 90s, when we were a tinpot village club. Left after a few years when he got the stadium redevelopment agreed -kind of. He's been away from football ever since doing legal stuff. Very odd that he should pop up now at Forest.

Not sure if his history here back then really qualifies him, but good luck to him and Forest all the same!
