Looks like Carlos has signed another years extension, great news as I think making a change would be far riskier and we're only a few tweaks in personnel and tactics away from being proper automatic contenders. Glad it's not dragged on and we can get on with our summer business.

I see Huddersfield went up to the PL with a negative goal difference. Is this the first time this has happened? I went back ten years and couldn't find anyone else doing that. This may not bode well for the future.

They will get pasted most weeks but good luck to them, every team deserves their shot in the prem and I for one want them to do well, and if they don't, they'll have some money to spend in parachute payments

They also won the playoffs without scoring a goal (the only goal in their favour was an own goal vs Sheff Wed).

I always thought it was a pity there wasn't a general thread for the Championship where people could post stuff of general interest about the Championship, because many are reluctant to post a new thread for just a little snippet about something. If it's about transfers or away followings or MK Dons, there's an obvious thread, but for many other topics, there isn't. Maybe this will work. Maybe it'll just get ignored.

The Express & Star, Wolverhampton's unbiased local bastion of journalistic quality and winner of as many Pulitzer Prizes as any other West Midlands newspaper, is doing an 'old matches' series with the match reports from games in history. Probably as interesting reading for other fans as for Wolves fans.

They are starting it with the May 8th 1972 clash between Wolves and Leeds. This game will be much longer remembered in Leeds than Wolverhampton, as the Wolves win denied Leeds their second League title in three years. A number of Leeds players have described it as the worst night in their lives, despite winning the FA Cup just two days earlier. Leeds only had to avoid losing to take the title, but Wolves won 2-1 in front of a fairly decent 53,000 people. There's a much better review of the game (from a Leeds perspective) here.

Edit: Thread title changed to reflect all the valuable contributions SERNWA makes to the Championship forum when he's not answering peoples' mobile phone account queries.

I lived in Ipswich in 1972 and I think Ipshite, Derby, Leeds and Man City were neck and neck towards the end of the season. Went to an evening match between Ipshite and City. I believe Derby won the title
as a result of the Wolves/Leeds game

Looks like he is trying to deflect attention away from the state of their finances knowing the Villa fans would lap it up

Love him or hate him, Redknapp does seem to build a lot of buzz, confidence and enthusiasm around a club. He's really giving Birmingham fans their self-esteem and mojo back, eh?

Bastard.

So how are Barnsley going to do next season? Other than Huddersfield last season, you seemed to be the surprise successful package in the division.

As things stand a relegation fight most likely.

So who are the players you'd like to see move to your club? Not necessarily any rumours around them, but ones that you'd want and that are realistic propositions?

Joe Ledley. Currently a free agent, I think. To come off the bench, mainly, when our new international defenders find out Championship games last longer than 25 minutes. And beyond Christmas.

Grant Hanley. Same.

Erhun Oztumer. He'll be a lot better known this coming season. He'll switch to Burton or someone then on to Derby for £8 million.

Ollie Watkins of Exeter. Bit of a gamble but worth the risk. If he turns out shit, we can sell him on to Coventry.

I wouldn't mind us trying to sign Tommy Elphick on loan but don't think we could contribute to his wage enough. Might be too far up north for him as well. Failing that, maybe Cian Bolger at Fleetwood, had a storming season.

Sam Morsy from Wigan is one i'd like to see here too, tidy passer and will get stuck in, might take a decent bid though as he signed a new contract at the end of last season.

CB and CM are our priority signings, anything else is a bonus providing no first teamers are sold.

That Zohore from Cardiff looks like a good striker but I'd imagine he'd cost a fair bit. Also we never seem to do business well with Warnock clubs so I doubt it would happen.

As a Wolves fan, I can honestly say I don't remember many Wolves goals quite as elegant as these.
First time watching the Man City-QPR one I wasn't sure which team was attacking.

Just have to love the 'beautiful' game.

Club hierarchy reckon it would take £20 million for us to even consider a deal with anyone. So yeah....

He's decent but nowhere near worth 20m. Then again the market is ridiculous at the minute so you'd probably get someone bidding that for him.

Needs to carry on from where he ended the season to be worth anywhere near that. Massive season for him this is now. He has everything needed to succeed at the highest level it's just down to how much he wants it.

Price depends a lot on length of contract too. I think Cardiff would get close on that in this close-season of utter transfer madness. I'm half-expecting Gary Breen to pop up at £15m for someone. Probably Bristol City.

Signed a new contract until 2020 back in April. That alone will have added a couple of million to our valuation of him.

Surely the FA should make a exception for Barton to play a charity game.
