TBH I think you probably can say those people aren't playing a full part in our society. They can't interact with the vast majority of other British citizens, can't share in our literature, television, cinema or radio.

Does this mean we can chuck out cultural dyslexics like you too?

No, Martino. It does not. Because I'm a British citizen who can speak English.

If you're determined to have a personal argument, which I don't particularly want BTW, would you mind just taking it to PM? Aside from the fact you're far too clever for me, I suspect a back and forth between us in which you tell me how terrible I am and I attempt to justify my existence would make for a cringeworthy read for the poor folk who'd just like to liven up purdah by discussing the General Election campaign.

It's 1:30am on a Sunday morning so there's nothing better for me to do than set out my stall here.

I was confident I'd be voting Green until a few weeks back, and have fallen for the tactical voting argument I have always been resolutely against. I'm in a marginal Tory constituency, lead by a party-line man who belted his son in the local Co-op a few years back. A Tory-led coalition where the likes of him hold their seats is grotesque to me, especially with the Ukips' influence, so I'm now looking at Labour. We've also got the rare virtue of being a low immigration area that actually isn't in love with the Ukips, and indeed our candidate waving the purple and yellow is of the classic fruitcake persuasion. I'm sure their selection-box of populism will get a slight representation, but the Greens should here, too as my seat includes Super Trendy Hebden Bridge.

Our Tory has been a few percentages in the lead of the Labour candidate, who is a local man who did the classic move of getting a politico degree and joined the party shortly after. Again he's pretty party-line, but at least he may work to save our A&E department which is VITAL. If he encourages another potential Shay sale there'll be blood and all. Labour's pledges are looking a little sweeter than before but nowt to be pollyannaish about, not like that's ever stopped the Labourites. I just fancy a Labour/SNP coalition out of all feasible outcomes. The SNP would be a nice little muzzle and Sturgeon's done what Salmond never could in a very short time in charming us English types. Pretty refreshing but even if that happens I'm still expecting a lot of cack.

So, any predictions for the political landscape of 2020?

Regarding our current trident nuke deterrent system, what would the alternative be with regards to protecting the UK against other nuclear superpowers?

The MoD have no interest in land or sea-based nukes. Ideally we'd have our own completely independent sea-based deterrent. In all likelihood though we'll be dependent on the US for warhead maintenance as we are now. Though if the flower children of the Lib Dems have their way we'll have an even cheaper, shitter, not-fit-for-purpose variant of that. Of course if the Greens get their way we won't have much of a military at all, so it could be worse.

Cuddle up to the USA even more so and rely on them for nuclear protection.
Replace Trident with a cheaper alternative perhaps consisting of 2 or 3 subs rather than the current 4.

Personally speaking, I wouldn't mind it if we didn't replace Trident, and instead put that money into the traditional military and reverse the cutting down to the bone of our regular armed forces. I don't see the point in holding a nuclear determent with a weak barely fit for purpose military which relies on part time recruits to make up the numbers of the significantly cut full timers.

Ensure our have a properly staffed and properly funded/equipped regular military for the decades to come. That provides us with all sorts of benefits and uses, from acting as a deterrent to Russia with a strong Air Force, to ensuring we can take on large humanitarian projects when needed. We've just ended our Russian facing permanent stationing of troops in Germany, just at a time when Russia are testing our metal on a weekly basis.

£90Billion-ish for Trident? That could buy a lot of aircraft, ships, weapons, armour, and pay a lot of full time salaries over the same 30 year time period expected of Trident. And probably leave us a few £Bn change as well to spend elsewhere on the NHS or whatever to appease the flower children as EG puts it.

Thought "shirk" was slang for something. Voting is well shirk.

My girlfriend's parents have just emigrated so their post is being redirected to us for the time being.

Just received this piece of shit from Tories (not sure if it's a local or national thing):

Anyone notice the slight flaw with their graphical representation of the seats held in Parliament?

It seems to be quite common to put misleading graphs on election leaflets. Some good examples here . Are the any rules or checks about what's written in leaflets like that?

Opposing the pedestrianisation of Norwich city centre!!!!
I remember the BNP some years ago using pictures of random people found on the internet and purporting them to be genuine supporters for whom they'd written little vignettes in their leaflets.

Didn't they once plonk a picture of a some fighter plane on their leaftlets believing it to be an RAF plane from WWII, and it turned out to be a Luftwaffe model?

I enjoyed this piece from the Conservatives denial of Grant Shapps wikipedia edits: 'it is typical of the smears coming from those who would rather not debate policy and substance.'

Interesting, but not really surprising that Labour dominate the Premier League. I thought Carrow Road was in Norwich North but apparently it's not, clearly the constituency boundary isn't where I thought.

If there wasn't enough to reason to despise Chelsea...Bit gutted about Nottingham Forest though, always quite liked them but will now have to hate them and their supporters forever.
We actually play in Fulham.
