I would too as I understand he is a local lad and maybe would want a better opportunity to move up north.

On the other hand, if a bloke with little experience can double his wages you just never know, I am amazed Warne left a "job for as long as he wants it" (Tony Stewart's own words to me 3months ago) to go to Derby.

He won't last 5 minutes there if he gets off to a bad start and 20,000 start mumping at him instead of a few hundred here.

You've hit the nail on the head. Local lad here and a job for life and I just feel it's too early for him and for Rotherham to take a punt on him.

He knows if he got off to a poor start he'd be hung out to dry. He'd be better off taking a club who are on the up but with a project similar to Rotherham's but in league one. MK Dons would be a club I could see him going to.

It's not his fault, he will have been forced into it by his family like the rest of us.
Anyway I think playing for us for 15 years negates it, just like Woody has been forgiven.

I don't know if he would be bothered but we should try and interview him.
He has a similar footballing philosophy to Warne so he might fit in, plus he still lives locally I believe.

Equally he might feel he doesn't want to risk tarnishing his legendary status in the club's history as second most appearances for Rotherham.

Sensible appointment by Derby and a good move for Warne. A step back in terms of league but obviously the potential there to get further in the Championship than Rotherham are likely to be able to get.

Warne is one of the few managers who seems to call things exactly as he and the fans have seen it, no bullshitting or trying to exaggerate stuff.

There's never a perfect time to leave a club but at least Warne has left Rotherham in a very healthy position, rather than scuppering a potential League One promotion bid. If he is, he'd be completely out of his depth. League One mid-table/upper mid-table is about his level. Presently he's even falling short of that.

To be fair were it not for the fact that he’s got a young family settled darn Sarf, I would say the Rotherham job would be a decent one for him - a patient, non-trigger happy board and a reasonably tolerant fanbase (ie not one with a Billy Big Bollocks mentality like, say, Sunderland) which is bigger than ours, and therefore I guess a bigger budget comes with that.

If you listened to the BBC podcasts with Warne, he is very critical of some of the Rotherham supporters stood behind the dug out.
They apparently made some very personal hateful comments about his father, the cretins.

TBH before listening to him on the podcasts I wouldn't have wanted him anywhere near our club, but he went way up in my estimation after listening to him.
Nobody thinks he will get the job however.

I never realised Warne left Rotherham till seeing this thread. He was doing a marvellous job. I personally think he will get Derby up in time but not this season. I could be wrong though.

The question being, if he doesn't get them promoted this season, will he still be there to try next year?
He has always taken us back up the year after relegation but he had a team that he chose, on their way up, young-ish, in top condition willing to run their nuts off for him.
Will Derby's older players, even be capable of his demands, even if they are willing to try?

That’s a good question. They will need to buy into his methods. I remember our preview for the game between us and the rotherham bloke giving his insight basically said he has the squad ultra fit and anyone who isn’t fit gets shipped out. Let’s see how he adapts to Derby.

Our successes during Warne's almost 6 years in charge were based mainly on team spirit and work ethic.

As time has gone by the recruitment team have brought in better players season on season and we now have some really good players,
However we still remain behind other championship teams in terms of ability and that has to be supplimented by sheer graft.

It's no coincidence that our bad results tend to be midweek when the players are still knackered from their efforts the previous weekend.
We can get away with it to an extent in league 1 but not in the Championship.

He will have players of considerable ability at Derby but it remains to be seen if they will buy into his ideas.
Some of them will get a shock especially next pre-season, if he lasts that long.

Have to say whilst people are fed up of the constant changing of managers - mainly due to the fact it brings bad PR and shows we don’t really know what sort of manager we want there isn’t exactly annoyance or anger that Edward has gone.

Many saying he looked out of his depth and limited tactically.

Certainly after recent results there has been a lot of negativity.
