Seen elsewhere that Bristol City have made a formal approach to Oxford to speak to Liam Manning this morning.
Might as well as thats where they usually get their players from.

That's a real blow for Oxford. Who will they go after now?

Well, Barton does consider himself a "young, progressive" manager, so...

Karl Robinson one of the main names being linked with our job. Bit like musical chairs with us, Oxford and City

A small, and in the main not really an update, interview from our CEO aside from very unlikely to have a manager announced prior to the Vale game but next week is a free week so maybe that's the thinking there.

Also mentioned that looking at the bookies odds, they've done a good job in keeping prospective managers under wraps. Whether that's a red herring, along with his Ireland trip purely being to see our January signing, I'm not sure. I'd be amazed if something wasn't in place by the end of the week and announced on Sunday/Monday.

Manning set to be confirmed as the Bristol City boss within the next 48 hours. I hate football.
Heard his interview on radio bristol on the weekend, it was pretty clear he’s interested.

Only at Oxford 8 months. Another stone stepper. Hope he bombs naturally..
Very frustrating, though I suspect LM's experience with MK Dons has taught him that when the opportunity presents itself, jump ship to avoid a repeat scenario of leading a club to near promotion and then being sacked months later. It's sad, but in some ways he's probably justified his own decision in an attempt to avoid a repeat scenario.

Much more worryingly, I don't have much faith in the decision makers at the club to make the right call on his replacement. My assessment I gather is shared by a number of supporters too. It would be just our luck if we end up with someone bloody awful. They have a big decision on their hands and it's just as important for the football club as it is for their own credibility.

The only comfort being that I imagine their previous experience of dealing with a madcap manager in Karl Robinson probably means we can rule out the 'personalities'...

Would Gary Rowett drop to L1?

Wouldn't shock me if Warnock threw his name into the hat, seems like he's still keen to stay in management.

CEO Tim Williams doesn't sound very happy.

Managers only get poached if they’re doing well. It’d be easy for me to take the piss but I haven’t got a leg to stand on atm.

I think he has every reason to be pissed off. He was virtually on the scrap heap after what happened at MK Dons. Oxford give him a chance and he's off at the first opportunity.

I know there's little loyalty in football now, but that does take the piss a bit.

He's probably trebled his money. So him and his family could be set up for life if he's got a good enough contract. Problem is with that lot of fans . They are not very forgiving if they lose a few games.

I get the thing about no loyalty in football etc but I can’t help feeling for Oxford a bit on this. They gave him a shot after it went a bit awry at MK and last summer gave him some serious backing to succeed so to just walk away like this I can well understand it leaving a sour taste in the mouth. Good news for Oxford is this should be a real high demand job given where they are in the league and the backing they’ve shown would give a manager.

Those decision makers appointed Manning.

On Manning. The timing is poor for us without doubt. I understand Manning wanting a nice pay rise but it is frustrating nonetheless. Especially as he jumps at the first smile in his direction after only 28 games even though having been given everything he wanted.

The one thing I will say though is Manning can never use "integrity" in interviews again or as a standard he holds others too as otherwise he is a hypocrite. Further to this, I doubt this only happened over this weekend either and has been ongoing for weeks.

Also, he and Chris Hogg didn't say goodbye to the players, but might later on zoom, even though he was at the Training Ground. Nice bit of disrespect considering he said those players got him the move apparently.

I don't think it will happen but I'd like Des Buckingham as he is a highly rated Head Coach, currently at Mumbai but part of the City Football Group and has links with us from the past.

Its not great for Oxford but don't get this loyalty talk with managers, lets be honest if he has a bad run hes likely sacked, if anyone on this forum gets offered double the wages they likely take it, you'd be nuts not to.

Thats just the food chain nature of football unfortunately, we had it with Micky Adams when cruising towards promotion and Sheff United came calling, hurt us massively but could understand it from his POV, he did come back to finish the job mind!

Decent chance of a promotion on the CV with Oxford though and then more (better) doors will open. He wont get that at City, they just sell their best players and don't reinvest in the team.

He is only 38 so plenty of time. Ive seen managers try to run before they can walk and spend the rest of their careers in non league or worse

Craig Short's interview regarding his departure was telling. The lack of communication with the playing staff and Radio Oxford's suggestion that there were some very pissed off players hearing the news much later than they should likely is naivety on LM's part. I really don't think he's covered himself in glory.

Given the investment in the playing squad (the board have effectively given him everything that he wanted), I think there's a justified expectation that he could have should have repaid that loyalty. Though I can to a lesser degree understand the selfishness in leaving for what is likely a pay increase of at least three times what he was on previously with Oxford. The whole experience has left a sour taste, however.

It shouldn't be allowed to happen mid season.
We had the same when Coughlan left us riding high in this league (although he dropped down a league instead of going up one!).
Nobody seems to do very well at City though despite their long spell in the Championship

Our new manager betting market has been suspended after Des Buckingham flew in from nowhere (as in not on the list at all prior to lunch time) to 4/6.

Radio Oxford making massive hints that he is joining us but don't know how accurate. We have done some interviews so possible.

He started his coaching career with us and has been at Wellington Phoenix, one of the Melbourne clubs (albeit Assistant manager I think) and is head coach of Mumbai where he won the title last season. Is part of the City Football Group and highly rated by them. Previous clubs before Mumbai seem to only have praise for him.

Edit: Managed New Zealand u20s and u23s as well.

Not surprised there was so much injury time in the Wycombe v Stevenage game !

Was there a long delay due to an injury ?

Our local radio media didn't seem convinced there was anything in terms of coming here, which makes the odds shift even more bizarre if that's the case.

Jerome Sale* on Radio Oxford said similar as he had spoken to his contacts in the Lincoln media. We all thought it was a bit strange with the odds at your end as well. Tbh, I thought he was unlikely for us even with him being local and will still be surprised if the mood music from Radio Oxford is accurate. That said Craig Short seemed to confirm it in all but name in the post match interview with his comments.

*He has been covering Oxford United with Radio Oxford since the 90s (could even be earlier) so has plenty of contacts in the game.
