The signing is a good one. Its clear he's still got something left in the tank(his goal against Millwall at the weekend was superb) and I hope Davis turns over the coaching and guidance of the attackers to Ryan. He knows more about attacking than Davis and Collins put together. Let him guide the strikers and advise the manager on how best to set up the team to attack and score goals. Would also look to offer him a coaching role in the future, he was clearly a good influence on Coco when he came on loan back in November.

There is obviously politics in play, they need some good news to present to the forum to combat the shit storm that is hopefully coming their way.

Local so he won't have to move his whole life, a team that he has a genuine chance of playing in, competing at a decent enough level. Anything less than very top end Championship or lower regions of the Prem and he's underselling himself in my opinion.
Be interesting to see where he goes and what he goes for. Anything above 2 million is a decent whack at this level I reckon.

Looks like we might lose Jordan Archer to Everton in the summer based on strong rumours on our forums. He's certainly a keeper with great potential but I can't help but feel he might be going a season too early.

£2.5m for Dack, that's some decent useful money for Gillingham there if it can be re-invested.

It won't be re-invested.
Hopefully a little bidding war might push the fee nearer the £3m mark.
If he was owned by Peterborough he would be worth £5m minimum.

Very true.

I don't know much about Dack, having only seen him play once - of which he was fairly average.

I look back to when we last had a player of considerable value in Nahki Wells. We sold him for £1.35m rising to £2m. Well and truly bummed on that deal. The 20% sell on clause should take it above £3m in total when someone comes in for him in the summer.

That's what happens when you sell a player in the January transfer window after only half a good season. You were never likely to get much more than that.

Can't see us keeping hold of Anthony Gerrard. He, along with Shez, has been the catalyst in us staying up.

I just think he's asking for too much money. I reckon a few in this division may be able to get him though - great if you have a young backline that need an experienced head.

half a good season at this level, which is the the first level that counts if you expect a decent transfer fee. nobody gives a fuck about L2.

Define nobody? We sold 2 players after we got promoted in 2012 from League Two for around £4m.

exceptions that prove the rule: your rep, plus very young players, plus two of the biggest clubs in the country being the interested buyers. None of which applies to the Nakhi Wells case.

Comments by Swindon's head coach about Ajose and that Kasim bloke would have me very worried if I was a fan. What's the situation there?

Same as most clubs at this level; if Town receive an offer that matches their valuation then players will be sold. Kasim probably deserves to play at a higher level. Ajose might think twice after previous spells in the Championship. Unsurprisingly, we a preparing for another huge turnover in playing staff this Summer.

I know that that is the unfortunate reality for clubs like ours but I do not expect a senior staff member to alert other clubs without motivation. You're basically asking other clubs to bid and that has to negatively affect your bargaining position.

Well, I'm just putting this out there, but 38 goals in a L2 outfit in a season and half ain't too shabby.

His form attracted interest from Aston Villa and Wigan at the time. The deal to secure Nouha Dicko with Wells going the other way was almost completed, but Nahki had already been tapped up by Hudders at the time. His mind had already been made up, and with 12 months left on his contract, we had to play ball. Hudders offered him £8k per week on a three year deal. He had to move 8 mile down the road, he made the step up the league ladder and most importantly, he didn't have to travel far to see his girlfriend who lives in Leeds.

So who knows what would have happened if the dodgy dealings didn't take place.

Sounds like you know absolutely sod all about Nahki Wells in all honesty.

Wells only went for an initial £1.35m?!!! Odd for a player better than Callum Wilson eh...

i don't know anything about nakhi wells, but i do know that no-one with only a good half season of league one football is ever likely to go for a million or so. the wigan stuff proves nothing: so bradford let wells go for 'fuck all' to hudds when they supposedly had a much better offer on the table? sounds like the sort of bollocks club officials come out with to deflect blame onto the player. also, hudders tapped up wells? why was this not reported to the FA?

Callum Wilson? Bradley Dack? Nahki Wells? What's the difference.

Hang on a minute, just because YOU think anything achieved in L2 isn't creditable, doesn't make your naivety plausible. Westwood to Villa and Powell to United blows that theory out of the water....and I'm sure there are many more examples too.

You keep babbling on about half a season, but Cov turned down offers for Wilson half way through his first season in L1.
WHATS THE DIFFERENCE?

Dack was virtually unknown until this season.
WHATS THE DIFFERNCE?

Wells would've surpassed Wilson in the goalscoring ranks, had he stayed here that season. Whether that would've earned him a bigger money move, no one will ever know.

My point being, Wilson hasnt scored consistently like Wells has. Dack is still, IMO, Unknown. His performances this season have/will earn(ed) him a big money move - but I fail to see how they're worth double the fee.

WHATS THE DIFFERENCE?

wilson scored 20 goals in his previous two seasons and got 5 in 7 this season in the premier league before his injury, so obvs hasn't scored consistently... nakhi wells got 11 goals last season, which is still a decent record for a struggling side. 17 goals this season is also very impressive. nobody disputed that, least not me.

i think that you can only name two examples in what must be thousands of examples of the players moving from the bottom two leagues to one of the top two divisions speaks volumes. the fee, for when you sold him, was about right. if you had sold him for that amount in the summer, it would have been a poor deal, but even then swindon only received a million and change for austin.

that you've been so hostile throughout this seems in keeping with your online character, but maybe you should reserve that resentment for those people who you used to argue with re. wells, because it seems that this is not about me being wrong but you suspecting that i am putting wells down which i never did.

In an interview regarding our retained list, Keith Hill confirmed we had offered terms to Niall Canavan (presumably out of contract this summer as well as out of favour at Scunny). Whether he'll accept or not is another matter...

Don't think he's out of contract but you can have him for free, we might even pay you to take him. Our defense has improved about 100x since he's left, please take him.

Ours has improved since he arrived:) Might be down to Canavan, might also be down to the restoration of Ashley Eastham or moving Jim McNulty to left back.

Ajay Leitch-Smith has opened talks on a new deal, key to keep him after impressing this season. Got to be honest I was gutted we signed him as he seemed to be shit but done very well (although Yeovil were playing him on the flank!)
