I remember the day of the postponement well.

Went down to Edgar Street to watch Dale, and a coach load of very disgruntled County fans turned up! Presumably the idea was "we've come this far, we might as well take in a game". And Adam Le Fondre was on loan to Dale from County at the time, so they could see at least one of their players, albeit in the wrong shirt.

The game ended 0-0....
Thanks for that FD, it makes the whole story even better!

Signed Luke Norris from Gills for £150,000.

Got a bad feeling about this one!

Not got a great goal scoring record, Gills fans, what kind of player is he?

£150k :eyes:

He's very divisive, some of our fans think he's absolute pony but he was highly rated at Brentford and there's certainly the potential there. Not sure if this going to be another Luke Rooney I'm afraid.

Not exactly buzzing about Norris but we'll see! Needed a striker or 2 to back up Obika who is fairly injury prone.

Reserve judgement until I see him play tomorrow.

Better score a hattrick or I'm straight on his back!

Good lad. I've already labelled him as a shit waste of money.

Do you think he'll suit our 'total football' style PuB?

I mentioned this before that when we signed Sam Parkin he had scored 4 in 40 the season before for Northampton.

Time will tell if this is 150k well spent or not.

Norris has a very powerful shot, and is good at shifting the ball to shoot when dribbling with it, but some other areas of his game are very limited.

His main issue is he is not mobile enough or good enough at finishing half chances to be a main goal scorer. If you play him as a target man his goal scoring looks ok, but he does not do well enough at holding the ball and winning headers.

So he kind of drops between 2 roles. He also never really built up an understanding with the other forwards we had.

If he can get better at either first time finishing, or become harder to play against he will be a decent lg1 forward.

Agree with that, it's also worth pointing out that 32 of his 70 appearances for us were from the bench.

I see a few people online say he is lazy. I don't agree with that. He works hard, but he does not work effectively. He runs about a lot but I don't think he makes it hard for the defenders.

We had Deon Burton a few seasons back who did far less work, but and early nudge on a defender or the odd important tactical foul when a team needs it, makes you a much better player for the team.

So, with Obika, the best hold up CF in L1, he might feed off him well enough

As I said he did not really manage to form a partnership with the other forwards, but was always the bigger forward of the two. I don't recall him playing upfront with Kedwell much

If he is playing off a target man he will need to get better and taking half chances as he always wants 3 touches before shooting.

Cheers Andrew.

I'm pretty happy with the signing of Norris. Looking forward to seeing him play tomorrow.

We have signed Kevin Foley until the 5th January.

Pleased with that, can play in several positions and can provide much needed cover at full back.

Presumably, we'll re-assess in January before offering him a contract for the second half of the season.

A scorer of great goals rather than a great goalscorer is the best way I've seen him described. If he improved at getting on the end of things in and around the six yard box he could be a good L1 striker. He's still young so has plenty of time to improve.

James Wilson of Man Utd to Vale, it's not what you know, it's who you know.

Saw that would be a mega exciting signing but can't see it. If so Jose is really helping out Bruno!

We've apparently made a six figure bid for Kilmarnock striker and Northern Ireland international Josh Magennis.

Understand both Oldham and Shrewsbury expressed an interest earlier in pre-season.

There is some logic to us managing to get James Wilson on loan but I really can't see it happening unfortunately

It'd be a backwards move seeing as he was playing in the championship last season.

Unless he's not that good.

Would be purely down to Jose helping his mate out. Expect it will be one of the other youngsters they have to be honest.
