Certainly looks like it. Makes sense considering we have just sold Lundstram. I'm guessing by your comment he is decent?

Yeah great little player and he should be better than when we had him considering he's had another year to develop. Can take it past defenders with ease and find the net. He is more likely to be replacing Chris Maguire than Lundstram.

That's interesting. Always thought he was more a CM. Could he play in midfield 2?

Not a flat two, diamond yes as the CAM role but hes not your box to box type. You want him on the ball in the opposition's half.

I was aware that there are two Jack Paynes just wrongly assumed both were CM's. Sounds promising though. Wouldn't be surprised if Pep sets us up in a 4-2-3-1 formation this season then. We would have James Henry, Marv Johnson, Rob Hall, Jack Payne and Joe Rothwell all wanting to be in the 3. That should be enough quality to see us safe at this level at least.

Signed Kogosi Nthle (ex Stevenage/Posh) on a two year deal. Played 3 friendlies fairly competently, according to those who were there...

We just let Chris Whelpdale go. One of the most disappointing signings ever.

Is Payne better behind the striker or out wide?
behind striker 100% not a winger at all.

He's the sort of player who has to play CAM or behind a striker he doesn't fit anywhere else so you have to accommodate him but he is a great player for this level so if you have a side than can supplement him playing where he plays then you have a great signing.

That's more than enough for a decent promotion push. You humble sod, bless you .

Where have you seen this? I have seen the rumours but just Charlton fans on twitter, nothing reliable.

Whilst I'm absolutely happy with the signing, given the write ups from people who know the player, I don't think we are near promotion.

It is telling that no Oxford fan has any clue how we are going to set up. The squad is lopsided and lacks any left back, cover for either wing, or reliable source of goals.

Henry, Payne and Rothwell all seem to be playing similar roles (based on what I saw of Henry pre season). My worry is we force Rothwell out left, and Johnson covers LB. That wastes two of our more talented players, but seems to be the life mission of someone at the club.

If we sign a LB and goalscorer of similar pedigree to Payne then I'll be back on board the promotion bandwagon.

I'd assume Henry will play on the right with Payne in the no.10 role. If the squad is fully fit it does currently suggest Johnson playing left back with Robbie Hall on the left.

As you say hopefully we sign a good left fullback and another striker. Not sure on the last one happening though as we have Hemmings, Thomas and Obika already fighting over 1 place. Would like another wide player unless Napa is genuinely pushing for a place in the matchday squad.

But Henry definitely played central out in Portugal. We could equally play a diamond with two strikers, Johnson at LB.

He did indeed play centrally in Portugal but he is equally comfortable on the right like Chris Maguire. Although with injuries and suspensions they will all switch around no doubt.

The diamond formation is an option but I think that would only happen if we are short through resting, injuries and suspensions as that would mean 2 of Payne, Henry and Hall missing out.

We've signed ANOTHER player. Chris Long on loan from Burnley. Fleetwood fans? If you wouldn't mind. Is he just a striker?

In talks with Ben Amos over a loan move.

Would be happy with that, we just need a keeper ffs.

Peterborough's chairman has done an interview with local media saying a L1 club has enquired about Marcus Maddison, made him "their top target" and "will be back once they've sold a couple of players". I'd say it's almost certain that it's either us or Blackburn.

The DW wouldn't be big enough to handle the egos of Nick Powell and Marcus Maddison in the same team. It'd be fun to watch though.

Ben Amos confirmed on a season-long loan.

A goalkeeper was a priority and I'm pleased with this one.

Henry wants to play in the middle, but like the tubby kid who didn't want to be in goal in anymore, he massively overestimates his own ability. His strengths are his delivery from out wide, so putting him anywhere other than on the right is a waste imo, especially when you've already got a natural am like Payne to play there.

The sun says our goalkeeper looks to be Sunderland youngster Max Stryjek. Highly rated Pole, but inexperienced...

Also after John Welsh on loan from Preston. He'd be a great player back down at League One level, but he's had a bad time with injuries.

Seen John Welsh linked with Oldham.

He missed most of last season through injury but I think he still has something to offer us, his game time would be limited here though. Would be a good signing for Oldham, sit him in front of the defence and he's a boss of a ball-winner at this level.

One of my favourite PNE players of recent years.
