Sounds like we might have hijacked the Morrell Pompey deal.

Portsmouth are not going to be fond of us today.
He's from Ipswich isn't he? He only spent a month with us under Cowley, it was Appleton that got a decent tune out of him really.

I loved him though, great player for L1 level. Not quite panned out for him at Luton but he's a Championship midfielder IMO.

Former WBA forward Kyle Edwards in on a three year deal. 2 new CB's rumoured to be signing today/tomorrow.

Finally it looks like Downes undergoing a medical at Swansea. Fee rumoured to be 550k.

Does nobody want Kayden Jackson?! We can't seem to shift him. Very little interest & he won't play for us again.
We’ll take him! Need a 4th striker.

Where has all this money come from? Just from shifting most of last seasons squad?

We might be in the market for another striker too if we manage to move our 4th choice striker on. Rumoured we have sold him but nothing confirmed yet.

Ryan Lowe has come out and said he’s finding difficult to get that 4th striker as a few clubs are in for the same players. He wanted an experienced player on loan, so I can imagine we’d be in for someone like Kayden Jackson or Kyle Vassell.

Lowery will sign.

Strange comment about rational thinking, Scott. Our squad is nowhere near complete in terms of signings, we have no idea how good the remaining signings will be (they could be great, they could be shite, who knows?). We also have no idea how good the likes of Lundstram will turn out (you wanted him released just a couple of months ago). We have obviously lost a number of our key players (including Kirk in that), so frankly, we are weaker now than we were at the end of the season. Rationally thinking, we are in for a scrap this year. People need to get their heads around that.

I'm under no illusions that this season will be tougher than the last but to see people on social media saying we're as good as relegated if we sell Kirk is hysterical. I've got us to finish lower mid-table this year (15th-18th) and I'm fine with that. We can't rule out being in the relegation scrap but I genuinely think there are others far worse off than we are at this moment in time.

I'm confident we'll survive. I think every promoted side except Bolton will drop. I think we'll be better than one other side too. I'm very interested to see who we sign as well. The one concern I have with this squad is that we have a lot of injury prone players on the books. But other established League One sides are cutting budgets and trying to blood younger squads together and that can work to our advantage if we found ourselves in a scrap.

I trust Artell to recruit well. But we'll simply have to wait and see what happens.

Yes, it looks like Cookie is seriously trying to f*ck us over at the moment. He's like a kid in a candy store.

Obviously he sees us as his biggest threat this season

The shoe has been on the other foot way too many times in the last 15 years under Evans. So refreshing to see us being clever in the market. Still need defensive cover but my god what a squad

If Ipswich don’t get off to a decent start I can see Cook coming under huge pressure.
His record at Ipswich so far is pretty appalling.

Granted, but he inherited a shite squad, all of which (well 24) have now been released or sold.

Also, Gamechanger have already stated promotion this season is the goal but they are prepared for it to take longer.

Morrell is a decent player but just doesn’t fit with what we are looking for from a midfield player. Out of possession he’s really not very good, in fact he’s appalling - doesn’t understand when to press, when to hold the shape and as a result is so easy to play around, but with the ball is excellent and can get you ticking. In the right set up he would thrive I think. Happy to get some money for him and invest it in a more suited midfield player.

Hylton hasn’t been right since pulling his hamstring in the league 2 promotion season, rushing himself back and pulling it again. Showed brief moments in league 1 but he’s cooked now. He’ll do someone a job at league 2 but a front line league 1 striker would be pushing it I think. He’s very clever though and his antics can be pretty funny if he’s on your side and infuriating if he isn’t.

Hearing Morrell to Pompey back on. He and Cowley have a good relationship and been convinced to join albeit on lesser wages than Ipswich but Cowley sold his vision with him firmly in it. Plus a guaranteed starting spot he won't be certain of at Ipswich and is supposedly the reason he wants out at Luton in order to maintain his Wales career. Given what's happened in the last 24hrs, this could well change again no doubt!

Feel for Jacobs. Cooke proper done the dirty on him after fee agreed, pulled out of our squad for Saturday, and medicals and contracts sorted out their end. All along Cooke was secretly lining up someone else behind his back only to bin him just prior to signing-on after he'd secured his preferred choice. We're now left with our second highest earner taking a big wedge out of our budget completely disillusioned at being played, and returning to the club he knew were prepared to sell him to fund new signings.

Cooke left here under a cloud with a lot of ill feeling on both sides ever since. This stunt (along with joining the Morrell race only after we'd courted him for weeks and finally agreed terms) seems like he's trying to stoke the fire.

Joe Morrell signed 3 year deal undisclosed fee. Turned down alot more money from Ipswich to sign for us. Cowley seems to be the main pull and nice that a player has chosen abit of loyalty over money. Also hes more likely to get more minutes here.

Morrell's done right going to Pompey. Cook plays a non negotiable two in central midfield and with Evans and Harper there already, Morrell could have easily seen his minute limited again.

Watch out for Pompey. They've not done much business, but the business they have done has been very good.

In the meantime, we've signed a young CB on loan who played most games for a Plymouth side who conceded 80 league goals last season. Safe to say, I'm pretty unimpressed!

Weird this has been announced at 11 on a Monday night. Relationship with Jones just broke down in the end I think so no going back from that really. Decent player I think just not right for us.

Ex Luton midfield duo with him and Tunnicliffe, both had difficult times here for different reasons. Can see both doing well under Cowley though

We tend to announce stuff late due to the owners being across the pond. Also think due to it being an on and off deal it's to appease the fans

He’ll be better than Scott Wootton, although that isn’t very difficult

It smacks of Ipswich trying to sign him not because they needed him but to stop their divisional rivals from doing so.

I’m disappointed that he didn’t get more of a chance at Luton, clearly had a very good Euros and also a good pre season, but he was right down our pecking order.

I can't argue with any comments in this thread. He wouldn't be guaranteed regular games with us.

In positive news... fee for Downes to Swansea is £1m+. Jesus, they must be drunk! Coulson is also confirmed.

We played Watts left CB in a three and he got caught out of position too much. I suspect he would be more comfortable in a traditional flat back four, if that is what you play.

I really hope this strategy from Ipswich blows up in their faces in all honesty. League One seems a nightmare this year.

We are MASSIVELY below FFP regs. £2.5m in player sales & 24 senior players out the door. 14 in. We're nowhere near the 60% wage cap.

It just looks like Ipswich were hedging their bets with Jacobs. Basically something better came along and they pulled out of the Jacobs deal at the eleventh hour. Not great, but this is football and these things happen. Every club is trying to get an edge on the other.

Really happy that we got Morrell in the end. I think it was definitely the guarantee of first team football that swung it. Something he wouldn't get at Ipswich.

As for Jacobs. He's an excellent player and one I'd personally be really happy to keep. However, we have been trying to shift our higher wage earners to bring in the players Cowley wants so I wouldn't be surprised if someone else came in for him before the end of the month.

We’re losing last season’s captain Ollie Norburn. I’ve heard it’s Bolton that he’s off to. Good player for this level but has a terrible attitude. Tends to get himself into trouble on nights out which is why Steve Cotterill has stripped him of the captaincy armband and has seemingly fallen out with him.

We’ll probably accept around 250-300k with a sell on clause.
