Lincoln, Shrewsbury and Leyton Orient all interested in Alex Gilbey apparently.

Always seemed well thought of by fans down the years? What sort of fee do you reckon he’d move for?

Not really worked out as we’d have liked, for some reason we just don’t seem to have seen the best of him. Shame as was really pleased when we signed him.

Don’t think it will take much, it’s pretty common knowledge we’re looking to move him on and he’s not even been in the last few squads. Garner keeps going on about a strict budget and there will need to be outgoings before we can bring anyone else in so think it’s a case of looking to free up wages and I’m sure he’s into his last year of his contract, the fact there’s a few teams interested may bump it up slightly but if I were to guess, he’d probably go for under 200k.

Sounding like it’s Lincoln he’s off to, loan with a view to a permanent.

So we’re not even interested in the fee, just in getting his wages off the books.

Wouldn’t grumble with that if I were Lincoln.

What type of midfielder is he? Defensive/ attacking etc? Yeah i see reports he has turned down Orient and Shrewsbury. We'll see!

He’s supposed to be a bit of both, box to box but unfortunately as I said we’ve not really seen him excel at anything.

That’s not to say he hasn’t had good games, he has especially at the back end of the 20/21 season. He suffered with long Covid badly at the start of last season and never picked up from where he left off, that said he still has an incredible engine, can expect plenty of lung busting runs with the ball and he won’t stop for 90+ mins.

Wish him well, just one of those ones where it just didn’t quite work out how it was supposed to.

We're apparently still interested in taking Jake Forster-Caskey off you, its one that doesn't fill me with optimism as his injury record is quite bad! Would he still cut it?

He still has quality but you’ve pretty much nailed it, he spends the majority of every season injured, seems to always get the big injuries.

Well we've finally made some signings, we'd been rumoured to be after Manyoo's Nathan Bishop (GK, on loan at Mansfield last season) for ages, but it sounds like we got messed around as the parent club wouldn't let him go until they got in another 3rd choice keeper (?).

So. We went for Livingston's Max Stryjek instead. Not uber-excited about this one I have to say, but whatever, he's here now and he's got a reasonable amount of experience, so welcome. Apparently signed on a free, but with performance-based add-ons - which I'm OK with, at least if he's not all that then we're not forking out big wedge.

We also signed Charles Hagan (ST), released from Sheff Wed, but he sounds like a youngster for the dev squad rather than a serious first team contender.

Ideally still need a CB and a (first team-ready) striker, but whether we've got enough £££ left is another question.

For what it’s worth I thought you looked a decent side - what would you say you’re missing?
We need 2 strikers as we rely heavily on Sam Nombe as our main front man. Seems like we are in for a midfielder and a left sided player too.

Unless something goes wrong at the last minute (it often does with us) we have Brooke Norton Cuffy joining us inthe next few days.

Obviously Arsenal rate him because they just gave him a new deal, but how did he do for Lincoln, and will he be good enough for a year in the Championship?

Kioso is out for 8-10 weeks hence our interest.

He was absolutely superb for us, great engine and a threat from full back or wing back. Would have loved to see him at Lincoln for a full season but guess Arsenal would like to see how he copes in the Championship. I don’t see him struggling at the higher level tbh.

Surprised Arsenal are allowing him to join Rotherham, unless they're keen on exposing him to a different kind of football.

This is what I put when he was linked with Preston:

Yep, he was too good for L1, you could see that pretty early on in of his home debut.

He's only 18 I think but physically he's well, well beyond his years. Very quick, strong and good dribbler. Final ball is decent enough for someone of his age. Defensively needs improving at times but that's something that'll come with experience. His pace will get him out of trouble anyway.

I know these are best bit type videos but it gives you a good indication of where he's at:

You are very much like us last season and it's not always a bad thing as we stayed up comfortably last season.

Small tight knit group with everyone playing their part but try to get to January with minimal injuries and as many points on the board as possible.

Take stock in Jan and strengthen a bit but hope to avoid key injuries. Brown off to international duty doesn't help and Nombe a top player but obviously have his injury problems. Keep them both fit and you'll stay up comfortably.

You'll blood a few noses with the big boys but get pumped on other occasions.

This.
Last season we had Nombe and Brown, but also had backup in the form of Amond, Kieran Phillips and Ozzie Zanzala , who were all used in various ways but clearly Taylor didn't think they were good enough for L1 (if they were available anyway) so clearly we need a couple of those type of players, even if on loan

Arsenal have sent loan players out to us before, last year it was Osei Tutu but we had Martinez and another I can't think of ATM.

Not sure what type of football you think we play?
Don't forget Smith left for Wednesday (though he has yet to play a game) so we now play Ogbene and Washington up top.

They are all about pace not muscle so we are adapting our game to suit.
So it sounds like he will be perfect to fill in and perhaps even keep his place over Kioso.

Obviously the deal still has to go through but I'm keeping my fingers crossed on this one.

He has been sub mainly but started against Preston and played well.
He got a yellow for a tackle that some refs would have maybe gone with a red but he is rapid and a good outlet for getting up the field.

Apologies, I forgot he got 20 minutes versus Portsmouth.
What have you done to him, the only time he was out for us was when he was suspended?
He was injured when he left you, Paul Warne said as much in that podcast thing, you managed him through to the end of the season, we're trying to get him right.

He played for the last 6 or 7 matches with a problem with his foot and was having injections to get through the games.
He had to come off in the final match at Gillingham but that was 16 weeks ago.
It wasn't seen as a big problem by our medical staff, I doubt we would have offered him £9000/week if we thought he wouldn't be playing for this long.

Did you enjoy the podcasts? I was quite surprised that Warney's has a dark side TBH and quite glad.

Mark McGuiness on loan from Cardiff looks to be coming in.

Had a loan spell at Ipswich a couple of years ago, is he up to much? TractorBoys UppaTowen_ITFC
Good signing for yous. Will do a job. Does the basics well and wins a lot of headers so is suited in games against the more direct hoofball sides. Can tell he spent his youth at arsenal as he often looks to get the ball on the floor and pick a pass or run out from the back with it.

Anthony Scully attracting interest from L1 and Championship Clubs. A year left on his deal, so I suspect we'll see if the price is right although I'd rather him stay until January and bag 7/8 goals first.

Sounds like we'll fill our loan quota with two more to come in. Alex Gilbey (Charlton) and Jack Diamond (Sunderland) are the two doing the rounds.

Chris Maguire is still expected to leave before the end of August, most likely on loan.

I'd hope we are in for Jack Diamond if he is available for loan.

According to Alan Nixon we’ve joined the race for Cole Stockton. Apparently we are willing to go higher than Fleetwood with a bid but Morecambe are asking for £600k (we certainly won’t be paying that).
