There are quite a few like that in L1/2.
Take Cole Stockton as an example, he was released twice by Tranmere, yet he's been a huge success at Morecambe

Rumours we are set to loan a keeper from Oxford

At a guess that'll be Jack Stevens considering he didn't play midweek and the new keeper, Ed McGinty did. Simon Eastwood is currently our no.1.

Makes sense as DC said we were waiting on the keepers current club to get a replacement

I thought Loans count regardless of age? Its only your permanent U20's?

No, loans only have to be included by Championship clubs, not in the L1/L2 squad lists:

44.9 Squad Lists

44.9.1 Clubs shall be permitted to name up to a maximum number of Players in their Squad List based on the following provisions:
(a) in respect of Championship Clubs, 25 Players of which a minimum of 8 must be a Home Grown Player; and
(b) in respect of League One and Two Clubs 22 Players of which a minimum of 8 must be a Home Grown Player.

44.9.2 The following Players do not need to be included in the Squad List to be eligible to play in League Matches:
(a) in respect of Championship Clubs, any Under 21 Player (save for any Under 21 Player who is registered with the Club on a Temporary Loan Transfer); and
(b) in respect of League One Clubs and League Two Clubs:
(i) any Under 21 Players; and
(ii) goalkeepers.

Guidance
Clubs are required to declare whether or not a Player is goalkeeper when submitting a registration application. Inaccurately declaring an outfield Player as a goalkeeper will constitute misconduct as a breach of the Club’s obligation to behave towards the League with the upmost good faith (as per Regulation 3.4).

Under 21 Players who are on Loan to Championship Clubs are counted towards the 25 Player limit for the purpose of the Squad List Regulation.

Never seen this lad Stevens play so know nothing about him. Just based on his profile I was more hoping we’d be going for an older head for Stone to learn off and develop but we’ll see how it plays out.

Suppose if it was him at least the bar wouldn’t be too high for him to be better than Joel Cooper who was the last player we had off them. Now that one didn’t work at all.

No, he looked like Messi when he came on at Carlisle! After that it was more messy!

He started our no.1 last season after forcing himself into the starting position the season before. I don't know how true but rumours we turned down bids for him last summer from PL clubs. Unfortunately, he got Glandular Fever, then Covid last season and he never got the previous form back. I wouldn't be surprised to see him get back to his previous season form and if he does you'll have a good keeper playing. So if it is him then I hope he is a success, just not against us (assuming he can play in those games).

Joel Cooper was a funny one. Clearly talented but I just don't think the move to England worked for him especially with Covid/lockdowns in his 1st season. His family also had issues in the 1st season so we loaned him back to Linfield so he could go home and then I just don't think he settled which was a pity for all. Maybe just somebody happy where he was.

Stevens confirmed on loan to Port Vale:

Also, signed a new contract with us to 2025. It will be good for him to work with a different keeper coach I reckon to help develop his game.

Carlo Nash is the coach so will be interesting as he’s got his own methods apparently.

Strange one though that we’ve gone the loan route.

On the loan route, it depends what is available permanently and this may be the best value option for quality/cost.

He's been coached by Wayne Brown for years now, so new methods and even simply a change could be good for all parties.

Yeah I think when we loaned him DC alluded to being fully aware of the reasons he hadn’t kicked on before or something to that effect. He had a decent first touch but maybe it was our system he just never seemed to be able to carve out a role. Only reason we knew his loan had cut short was I think Oxford announced he’d been released to let him go back home.

I’m guessing with Stevens he won’t be allowed to play when we come up against Oxford. Be a good one for the conspiracy theorists if he did. So that guarantees Stone two league games this season. Suppose at least with a loan it buys us some time to maybe go into the market next summer if the club haven’t liked what they’ve seen from other free agent keepers this time round.

I can never understand why clubs loan decent players to other clubs in the same division. It makes no sense as you are basically improving your rivals.

He can stop 22 of our rivals from scoring.

Then when they play us they have to put an out of practice and unhappy player between the sticks. Win win.

When DC says he made him -- I'm sure it was Darrel that got him out of the club and loaned him away to a club in the North East ( Hartlepool I think ) and also had him training with the youngsters. Good to see Ellis did buckle down after that final warning from Clarke.
Getting sent to Hartlepool would focus anyone's attention.

Looks like we're signing winger Jordan Garrick on loan from Swansea (Kennedy suggested post match that one will be in tomorrow), been at Plymouth and Swindon on loan recently. Thoughts Plymouth fans? And Indian Dan and Agombar stool?
Interesting that we've essentially swapped loans with you for Whittaker and Garrick.

I liked Garrick there's definitely a player there somewhere - he'd have the odd absolute blinder (Charlton home, Oxford away) but then go missing for a number of games.

He's rapid - better going forward than defensively if you're looking to play him wing back. Also plays up front but lacks the physicality to properly compete for a starting place in a top half side up there in this league imo.

I liked him. Good for his versatility and scored a couple good goals for us. Can play right or left wing back and up front. He had one of his best games for us against at Charlton home, playing left wing back, but the next week he could be starting up front.

Quite a similar player to Whittaker in terms of where he plays on the pitch. He’s relatively quick and he tries hard, I think you’ll like him.

What is interesting is that our gaffer obviously preferred the signing of Whittaker over Garrick. Otherwise surely he’d of signed for us last month.

Thanks, can't see him playing wing back we've seen nothing to suggest we'll go three at the back for any length of time (final 10 minutes of the Portsmouth game).

Obviously not seen Garrick yet but from the description of him, Whittaker's less physical and doesn't work as hard (something aimed at him in his early days here), but I'd imagine Whittaker is probably a little more cute in and around the area (not that we saw much of that tbh but he plays like that kind of player).

Signing of a forward at Cheltenham is imminent apparently.

Also likely to be a couple of outgoings.
Christian Norton on a permanent deal. Baffling, we already have several forwards who aren't good enough to start so why not add another?

Hardly. I just think Derby fans are complete c***

I think you're missing an extra asterisk on the end of that word, fella.

I really do applaud your propensity to tar a fanbase under one single brush, though, it's truly what football in this country is all about!

The meltdown on Twitter is truly glorious though.

No-one does a meltdown like Cheltenham Town Twitter. It's a shame we don't have a bigger following, because it would be a sight to see.

You're not wrong, not seen another fanbase react as badly to anything as ours do on Twitter!

Still two more signings due in and hopefully a few moving on. Seems to be quantity over quality at the moment so an important few weeks to get the squad finalised.
