One of the top scorers last season, must have something about him! (Frustratingly got two against us this season!)

Good options now with Proctor coming back when Wilson and Ellis are fit as well. Assume Mipo isn’t with us?

Yeah White was underwhelming for us but part of that was because Kenny Jackett had no idea where to play him and he was in and out of the team.

As for Jevani Brown, our local news are reporting that Exeter aren't expecting any ins or outs now so that would suggest our bids have been rebuffed. t's finThae from our POV if it means we then go and sign him on a free in the summer.

In other news, we'll be announcing Paddy Lane's arrival from Fleetwood before the day is over.
Matt Taylor was asked about Brown at our fans forum and he mentioned we wouldn't be signing him in January but would be very interested in the summer.
So you may get get some competition, it seemed there might be a gentleman's agreement not to raid his old club this season?

Sean Robertson has gone on loan to Crewe. Young pacey wing back we brought in during the first month or so of the season, looked pretty good at first but seems to have disappeared out of contention.

There was a clause that any players contracted to ourselves after this summer can't be approached by MT until the summer of '24.

Of course any player who is out of contract can do what he wants, hence why I think you'll sign Brown, Blackman & Key in the summer

We had Terell Thomas at the club doing a medical and had agreed terms, but Charlton pulled the plug at 10pm apparently after letting another couple of defenders leave.

I'd say Matty Taylor is about as good a signing as we could have made on the last day of the transfer window, with our budget.

Has had a lot of experience at this level, 1 in 3 generally and up until this season was regarded as one of Oxford's most important players. Only 32 and will have runners around him anyway.

We've basically needed someone to stick it in the net and not have to do any running or chasing too. This could be a real masterstroke, as we probably would have won the last two with a proper goal scorer.

That was the most active transfer window I’ve seen us in and I starting following Exeter in the late 70’s. We literally never behave like that. Brilliant window by our standards. Times they are a changing……not sure how long it will last but will certainly enjoy it while it does UTC

Fairly typical one for us. Get one in early, that was obviously arranged months ago. Then tumbleweeds for 30 days before some desperate deadline day action where we try to get in four players and end up with two. Rinse and repeat.

Should appease the fans, they have creamed over Stockton for months but Taylor has generally consistently scored at this level for a few seasons now.

As you say we don't need legs just someone who can finish as the stats show the other day, we are far too wasteful, if he can cure that its a great move.

Disappointing window for us too.

We lost our main goalscorer, which leaves huge pressure on this new kid from Wolves, who on paper is promising but hasn't played a whole lot of senior football, and will need time to adapt to the joys of the lower leagues.

We got a back-up loan keeper, which is certainly sensible but not that exciting, as our No. 1 has consistently been doing very well...

We did also shift out a bunch of attacking players who were barely getting a sniff of the first team, which makes sense in as much as some of them would have been too expensive to justify their fringe status - but we are light on attacking numbers now.

Would also be disappointing if Franchise stayed up through the efforts of 2 of our old boys who they've just signed, Sullay Kaikai who came straight from us, and Anthony Stewart who went to Aberdeen after us but had a hard time there and I guess has decided to return closer to home.

Kaikai really barely got a chance with us so it's hard to rate him, although there's clearly talent there. Stewart was excellent for us though, I don't want to see Franchise starting to keep clean sheets.

That seems to substantiate what he said, thanks for clarifying.
We have had Blackman on loan and he's nowhere near as good as Johanson or Vickers so I think you are safe with that one.

Hard to want DC to do well at Vale now with the snake on board. Cant understand clubs loaning players to rival clubs either

We loaned three youngsters out yesterday - GK Sam Long (Bromley) and ST Freddie Draper and RB Elicha Ahui (both to Drogheda United in Ireland).

Ethan Erhahon came in from St Mirren. He sounds a cross between a '6' and an '8' and, on paper anyway, will address some of the issues we have in there - namely not being able to pass a football, forward or otherwise, to give us an element of control. It does sound a deal worth £300k but heavily incentivised with add-ons including us being promoted(?!) and him getting a full Scotland cap.

Dylan Duffy came in as well but he's one for the future.

In terms of numbers, it's been 3 out and 5 in but those two additional players are areas we left ourselves short in, in the summer transfer window. We've managed to take the youngest squad in the EFL and further decrease it's average age in January.

Yeah, it’s been a really good window for us and certainly puts us in a good place for the rest of the season. The trust in Caldwell is growing daily and to keep everyone that’s key to our squad was unexpected but welcomed!

The only other deadline day that compares is when we signed Stockley, Boateng, Wilson and Edwards in 2017 but as you say, it’s very rare we get this much action. And from what I’ve heard, we also tied up a deal for a ‘keeper before the deadline and it’ll be announced soon.

Considering we're unable to spend a penny, we've managed to keep our core squad together and add Springett, McGee & White. Not the most exciting window we've ever had, but sensible enough. It gives us a little bit of depth, although considering our striker situation then I wouldn't be surprised to see us go into free agency for a player. A fabled return for Chris Martin? Who knows... McGoldrick misses the odd game a little too often and our only other option, really, is Collins. Barkhuizen, Dobbin and NML can all play there in an emergency but we really only have two out-and-out strikers.

We also added a couple of young Arsenal players to our academy side, but one in particular (Kido Taylor-Hart) does come with a very good reputation. He played for Arsenal's academy against Cambridge and Ipswich this season. Billy Vigar is the other but seems to have a very bad relationship with injuries.

It does seem an odd one, they've loaned us the keeper and main striker, considering we are set to finish probably fairly close in the table together.

Hopefully works out better than Joel Cooper from last season, do seem to have some link there, not sure if Robinson is good mates with DC maybe?

Tricky one, we need a striker and he is as good as we could get with his record so guess DC has forgiven him, can understand the fall out from Rovers though, we'd be steaming if say Wilson went to Sjoke! (Took a while for us to forgive John Rudge!)

Cooper by all accounts just had trouble settling in England. Stevens has been alright for us though. If Robinson fancies falling out with anyone else am sure we’d happily provide a home for Brannigan…

Overall though even if we didn’t bring in Taylor while not exactly the most riveting window sometimes that is just the best course of action. Taylor gives us something we don’t have and that’s a finisher, it’s been incredibly frustrating how many sitters we squander on a weekly basis so that should help there even if he can’t run around a huge amount.

We've got plenty of runners for him, just needed someone to put it in the bag, Garrity, Butts, and Ellis will do plenty of leg work, Wilson to a degree so looks what we need, ultimately now the club have pretty much said we are taking the foot off the gas and the play off's are not being targeted as long as he helps us get the 14 points needed asap then I will take that.

Positive overall but you get the occasional child on Twitter kicking off as soon as we concede a goal.

He’s had a tricky run as we’ve played all of the top 8 in his first 15 games and we’ve picked up some good results. Our next 5 are against bottom half teams so hopefully we can pick up some good results and keep building.

I really like him - he speaks very well and has a great rapport with the fans. Plus his recruitment has been seemingly decent, so happy he’s in charge for us moving forward.

Our final bit of business this window has just been announced:

GK Gary Woods has signed on a free and will be back up to Jamal Blackman.

It will feel like the start of a new season on Saturday, with so many new players that I haven't seen play for us before, just hope it isn't like the last one (up to the Shrewsbury game on Saturday) because that was awful!

Yeah most of us will hate him for the rest of his career, and want him to fail miserably. He loves a deadline day move that lad. You just needed Bodin to round off the reunion, he was the best of them all.

Matty Taylor from Oxford… any good?
We’ve been so utterly dreadful this year with so many poor decisions being taken across the club that this doesn’t really feel like too much of a kick in the teeth given the disappointment of this season amongst other things.

He’s been a brilliant player for us. Someone we could always bank in to score 20 goals a season. We lost a lot of players in the summer and it proved a completely shambolic process in replacing them. What I would take from this is that he must be surrounded by pace and support. Ellis Harrison is a perfect foil in many ways.

This season he’s been so isolated even if he converted every chance, he’d likely still only have five goals to his name!

He’s definitely slowed down noticeably this season and has proven a bit part player. The fact we’ve started left winger Yanic Wildschut, midfielder Billy Bodin and youngster Gatlin O’Donkor in his place this season which tells you how much he hasn’t been favoured.

On the negative side he’s unable to cover quite so much ground. Part of me thinks he’s knackered and/doesn’t have the support nor confidence to perform for our dreadful side. The other part of me thinks he just entered professional football late and the demands placed upon him against his game time over the final few seasons has meant it’s caught up with him.

In my view, it’s potentially a cracking signing. Even if things don’t work out, he won’t not put in the required effort.

It was a quiet deadline day for us only signing Lamare Bogarde (loan from Villa) and Calum Macdonald (contract til end of season - previously at Stockport). Rumours we are going to sign Tyler Blackett who is a free agent. Underwhelmed really

I know your defence has been a bit shaky this season apart from against us annoyingly but to be honest is there much to gain from shelling out too much in this window? Realistically you’re in the same boat as us in that neither are likely to go up or down so just hang fire until summer I’d have thought.
