I know your defence has been a bit shaky this season apart from against us annoyingly but to be honest is there much to gain from shelling out too much in this window? Realistically you’re in the same boat as us in that neither are likely to go up or down so just hang fire until summer I’d have thought.
Yeah it makes sense. Just annoying seeing sides below signing players that would probably get into our team. I think we are just doing a patch-up job to see us over the line.
We like many others cant compete with those top sides spending power anyway, hopefully the ones coming down will make the top end weaker to have a crack next season.
Our return game will be spicy with the Snake playing - he only played well against us with no crowd to abuse him for 90 mins, or until he gets subbed.

The reaction from some Rovers fans was certainly strong along the lines of ‘why have you done this Darrell?’ among others. To be fair if it was a player of ours who had done that to switch to the shit I’d probably be the same. Shows that DC probably doesn’t care too much either way.

Looking at the Championship I think most of the teams in danger are without doubt weaker especially Huddersfield and Blackpool. The only caveat I’d put on it is if Rotherham come down they seem to be the ultimate yo-yo team now. I think then is the time to push on and that goes for any of us in that mid-table area.

It was a quiet deadline day for us only signing Lamare Bogarde (loan from Villa) and Calum Macdonald (contract til end of season - previously at Stockport). Rumours we are going to sign Tyler Blackett who is a free agent. Underwhelmed really

If you have a quiet January window that points to a good summer recruitment.

Well we havent done too badly, but I was expecting a bit more after getting easily beaten by Accy and Morecambe in the last 2 games especially after Bartons post match interview.

Yeah I think losing the snake ultimately cost DC his job here as he was never able to replace him. It was all done on the last day too in the Jan window, City matching his release clause exactly with no other offers from anyone else (sounds all too convenient especially as his agent has contacts there).
Snake had form too, as he was originally going to sign for Michael Appleton at Oxford and shook on it but decided to sign a new deal with us with this release clause in. Then he took the piss when he scored against them shortly after with his celebration.
Would have been nice to have a crack this season, but the last 2 results have shown we just arent good enough yet.

Its split our fan base this stepping back between "Lack of Ambition" and "Sensible" I am more than latter.

10 points off now the Top 6, and some of the money going around at the top is bonkers, not many League One clubs spend £3 Million quid on transfer fee's in a single window so its impossible to compete with that...

Best bet is look at the sides likely to come down being smaller clubs and hope Ipswich and Sheffield Wednesday go up (ideally Derby too but more likely Argyle) and then the playing field looks more level next season where your Bolton's, Portsmouth's don't generally spend massively and you can compete more.

Sides 7-10 points off the top 6 throwing big money at it this window may as well just shred money in a shredder instead.

Totally agree. I think we are a bit miffed as one of our deadline day signings was sub for Stockport in the last game.
We should do enough to stay up, think you might have an outside shot of play offs as Taylor probably would have had a hat trick for you v Cheltenham - That miss by Holden (?) was unbelievable

Yeah it was Holden. That’s been happening all season with us missing some absolute sitters in fact you could go back to last season of us doing it. If anyone had the misfortune to watch our game with Peterborough on Sky you’d have seen Benning fail to score from similar range too. Most of them have been Harrison missing them but guess at least he’s in the position.

I can’t see it to be honest, started with the aim of mid-table and I think that’s what we look like. A team that can be a difficult problem for most on any given day but very inconsistent and our results show that. Also our pitch is just a killer trying to play football on it.

I just want 5 wins and to put my feet up, I am knackered from the emotion of the play offs then the short season so looking forward to getting to 50 points hopefully as quick as possible then not really caring for a few months.

Holden's miss was dreadful, we missed a hatful second half at home against Cheltenham and drew as well!

Our pitch is also bad as its suffering with drainage issues, which is annoying as its usually perfect. I saw that Sky game, Posh played a lot better than they did against us, luckily we have Collins and Coburn who offset the leaky defence, without them we would be screwed as other havent stepped up from L2.

More active than the library it seemed like last season?

Indeed, not sure what the issue is to be honest. Would have thought this forum being a bit livelier than the morgue it was last season isn’t a bad thing.

Wait until next season if Carlisle are up here and we get hellogregorys perpetually joyful posts on his team.

Hadn't realised they are third in League Two! But I suppose those optimists on the Forum are still expecting the sky to fall in.

Whisper it quietly but there’s some belief with a fair wind they might be able to challenge for the top 23.

We’ve loaned academy product Harvey Bunker to Scunthorpe, having extended his contract. He’s played a fair bit this season and done pretty well. All the January signings have pushed him down the pecking order in midfield, which is probably his best position.

Also loaned left back Jacob Jones to King’s Lynn, signed after trialling in the summer but hasn’t really made an impact.

Jay Benn has gone to Bohemians for the rest of the season. They play through the summer over there so he'll hopefully have lots of football under his belt between now and pre-season.

We've had a few go over the Ireland on loan in the last couple of seasons and tried to sign a fair few as well with mixed outcomes.

It’s two Januarys on the trot already actually, they did it in the year we both came up from League 2. They usually get about a third of their points in the first four months, sign ten players in January and get the other two thirds of their points in the last four months.

One season it won’t work!
One season perhaps........Seems other teams should learn from it

And if you stay down?
If we stay down we will be stronger this August than last August.......Will be heavy reliant on the loan market again
Not sure we are ready for the Championship unless we can keep ALL our loan signings for next season
Imagine every Championship team will be in for Shoretire and Trafford and Bradley wont be short of offers from the Championship

Id rather they limited the number of loan players allowed to play rather than allow clubs to pile up with players they have no chance of signing.
We have benefitted in the past, but having half a team of someone elses players doesnt sit right with me.
It wont change though as its all done to benefit the top clubs who hoover up all the talent

We can’t find many if any good enough players from the places we were getting them when we were in League 2, so getting decent loans in seems the best chance we’ve got. Think we’ve had 9 this season. Right now the spine of our defence and midfield are mainly on loan, although Onyango getting injured is a loss.

Could well have 5 loans in our starting xi on Saturday.

The rules are there so you may as well take advantage of it.
I just think clubs rely on this rather than bringing their own youngsters through, and becomes a case of 'who you know' rather than your own ability as a coach/manager

We do try and bring youngsters through, but most either aren’t good enough or get signed/poached by bigger clubs. A few of our ex academy lads are at EFL clubs now, at places like Hull, Norwich, Fleetwood & Barrow for example, and we have a few on pro deals out on loan that may or may not make it here.

Problem for us is that in our catchment area all the best youth sign for Bristol City, Cardiff, Reading, Oxford even Southampton or Portsmouth and the big midlands clubs. Hence why our u18’s are rock bottom of the Youth Alliance, which is fitting in a way as they always say you should aim for your youth teams to replicate the style of your first team.

Yeah same for us really it does make you wonder why bother.
We have had youngsters picked up by the big boys for chump change without ever seeing them play, and the ones that do come in seem too lightweight and not league football standard.
Cant just spend millions like Ipswich.. its tough

We lost a few to the big clubs and it’s frustrating, believe one broke through at Reading and we lost Joel Ndala to Man City who’s now looking a very hot prospect.

Hopefully we have some decent clauses in there but probably nominal!

Our youth team is looking decent again though after some poor years.
