Confirmed that Jones has gone to Carlisle. They offered a three year contract, I don't think we are able to do that, certainly haven't for years.
At least the Wigan fans will shut up about losing out to us now
Comments on Exeweb seem to think we've blown them out of the water financially. I doubt that... we may have new owners but they've also made it clear that most of their investment is going to clear debts and upgrade facilities and that they may be relatively wealthy but are savvy businesspeople whose priority is long-term. For the first time in over a decade we can actually compete with other L1/2 clubs as normally we'd not be able to get anywhere near players who have other offers but we're not blowing anyone out of the water, we're not the next Wrexham, or even the next Mansfield.

Probably made a similar offer to Exeter's just with an extra year and a better location. Normally we struggle with our location but so do Exeter so when we're competing with Exeter over a signing location will probably be a big factor either way... that and we have Charlie Wyke who Jones played with last season, both of them are Boro lads and good friends apparently.

Not even the next Mansfield, think we gave out one three year deal in about a decade, even Keanu Baccus a signing that was seen as a bit of a coup only got two years this summer. How much did you guys pay for Armstrong, out of interest? Three and a half year deal I seem to remember?

If you are willing to offer an extra year on a contract than Exeter, that’s blowing them out the water, that’s a massive deal to players at L2 level.

Undisclosed but reportedly around £150,000 > £250,000 at the max, either way which makes him our record signing. He was supposed to be signing for Wrexham for £500,000 and Harrogate did initially state they wouldn't allow him to leave for less than that but what we paid for him was definitely a lot less than that. Given they'd frozen him out of their team for half a season they weren't really in a position to be making demands, they needed to sell.

Exeter may have their reasons (club policy apparently) for not offering longer than two years... a lot of clubs do this... we used to only offer one year deals... lost a lot of players that way. When we talk about offering longer deals though we're talking about accepting a greater risk... not making a greater financial outlay. If a signing doesn't work you're stuck paying them... but the flipside is with shorter contracts if a signing works really well you're more likely to end up losing them on a free. There's a subtle difference between this and offering big wages and I wouldn't call it blowing anyone out of the water. We don't have lots of cash but we don't have debt looming over our shoulders so perhaps feel a bit more comfortable to offer one or two longer contracts (we still don't do it very often).

This reminds me of when you stole Willem Tomlinson off of us and Carolyn Radford was crowing about it on twitter

That’s the Mansfield shoddy is referring too, one that thankfully we left in the past years ago.

He turned out to be a proper wrong en too.

Barnsley back in for DKD, sounds like they are close our valuation. Selling him and Swan we are probably looking at seven figures all in.

Dale Taylor joined Wigan so we can write that one off.

I'd up the price this late into the window. Not going to be easy to replace Keillor-Dunn adequately in two days.

I’m not entirely convinced we intend to get a direct replacement in terms of that #10 role, obviously we need to get someone in who helps contribute with goals seeing as he scored 22 and assisted double figures last season.

I do know we’ve set a cut off for selling him, no idea when that is but cannot be much time left.

O'Rourke says we've had a bid of 750k turned down for Will Keane.

You love the Stockport borough that much you sign loads of lads from it. George Evans, Luke Bolton, Andy Cannon (Tameside but I'm claiming him as he was on our books as a kid and parts of Tameside are SK Postcode) and now going for Will Keane.

I can only assume your recruitment team are complete morons.

If it's true, which I doubt.

You can have Bolton if you want, we'll keep Cannon and Evans

£750k+ for a 31 year old seems a bit much.

What is he like - any good?
We rejected £700k from West Brom. Why would we accept just £50k more for our top scorer? And why would he want to drop a league?

12 months left or not, I'd want in excess of a million.

Our ITK guys seem pretty sure he's agreed a contract extension anyway. I think this is his agent earning his fee.

Wrexham got over a million to burn on a player so you’ll probably get it.

I'd rather just keep him at this stage of the window. Can't see him dropping off too much in the next two years, doesn't rely on pace or athleticism.

I think Wrexham would have to throw a 4yr deal at him to interest him. Imagine we'll only offer a 2 year extension.

That does seem strange. The thing I read said that West Brom had bid £500k which would have made more sense.

I can't see us paying a million so he'll probably stay where he is. Parky and the club tend to walk away if they think the fee doesn't make sense or is being artificially inflated.

Dropping down a league. Ultimately the main reason would be money. Either us offering him more money or offering him a longer contract. I think being part of something which is viewed as an exciting project may have a bit of influence too, but it must be 90% money.

I really don't think the 'exciting project' stuff washes when you're talking about well-paid Championship players.

I'm not sure what your top wage is but I'd be shocked if it's close to what Keane will be on here.

This is pure agent spin IMO.

You were going to pay half a million for Luke Armstrong which is a strong counter to those claims.

Fair point! Although I do think Harrogate continually pushing up the fee beyond a reasonable valuation and taking it so close to the wire is why it ultimately fell down.

Why does every Australian under the age of 35 look like a bell end?

The amount I've seen rocking mullets and shite moustaches is incredible. Never mind the dress sense.

They vary between 80s Germans and butch, tattooed lesbians.

Nigel Longwijk has signed on loan from Wolves and it’s not done yet but Joe Taylor looking likely from Luton, don’t know much about either but believe they both had good loan spells at this level last season.
Joe Hodge has also signed from Wolves on loan.

Bailey Cadamarteri signs on a season long loan from Sheff Weds. A bit biased but that’s one of the signings of the summer in the whole league for me, and in an area we needed to strengthen (even though we are currently the league highest scorers)

There is going to be a major uproar our end if we let Taylor go when we seemingly cannot buy a goal or a win and just sold another forward/attacking player as well.

We have barely seen him but by all accounts he was great last season for both Colchester and Lincoln, he’s the sort of player we’d be excited to be signing so really no idea why we have shoved him out the door without giving him any real opportunity tbh

Our first loan signing for the season. On paper, looks a great signing.

Been talk for a while it’s happening and we were waiting for you to have a player lined up before you would let him go and now a couple of very reliable itk posters are saying it’s done, I’ll wait for the photo though before I believe it after Birmingham snatched Alfie May from us at the last second.

Lonwijk looked very dicey when he first arrived but once he settled in, became a fan favourite.

Good in the air, reads the game well, decent pace (relative to this level, where many defenders are carthorses) and very calm in his play.

I’m sure we were keen to get him back on loan, but can’t blame him for wanting to go somewhere that has more of a second-tier level setup and fanbase - I’d imagine if he does well for you then he’ll sign permanently as I can’t see him breaking through at Wolves, good though he is.

Cheers, sounds promising. We are fully stocked with those carthorses so some pace will be most welcome.
