We have been offered Tosin Adarabioyo from Manchester City on loan.

Presumably after Smith did good things with Hiwula.

A mini rumour that Ian Henderson is a target for Sheff United and Barnsley.

I would cry.

We apparently received £200k for Oli McBurnie after signing for Swansea this aft. Daylight robbery in South Wales. Decent bit of wedge for an unproved 19 year old. All the best to him.

Peter Vincenti has signed a two year extension to his contract at Rochdale, which already had a year to run. Good player and a top bloke who nobody at Dale has a bad word for.

Mark Marshall was left in limbo for a while after failing to agree to our terms. Then, he came back and asked our Chairman if he could actually sign for us after all and he was told that there wasn't enough left in the budget to finance a deal and the contract offer was no longer there. He's now signed for Bradford on a 2-year deal and made himself look a giant c*** in the process. The reason he didn't instantly agree to stay at Vale was because of the issue of travelling up to Stoke-on-Trent from London on the train regularly. So where does he go? London? Essex? Milton Keynes? Nahhhh. That wonderful southern paradise aka fucking Bradford. What a weapon. Disappointed he's gone. I can't say a bad word about him. He is a bit inconsistent, but what League One wingers aren't? He's got the ability to win a game on his own when he turns it on, but he can have games where nothing he tries comes off and he wastes possession or runs into blind alleys.

Come again?

Oh and on the subject of players commuting, get used to it from Grant. Sure he bases himself in the local area during the weekdays(might still live with Brad Inman, who knows?), but on Saturdays after games, he was often seen hotfooting it to the nearest train station to head down to London.

Bloody hell, JJ. Dunna start being a pedantic arse this season. You knew exactly what I meant.

Those were expressions. I meant I can't say a bad word about him in regards to his performances and attitude at Vale.

Kyel Reid seemed like he wanted a move south and then went to Preston so we've got experience of that.

I said it before but this guy seems like his double from what's being said. He's already retweeting him as well so they must know each other. I liked Reidy to be fair so hopefully this guy will be alright. I prefer wingers who can run rather than cross as they're more exciting to watch. Of course it would be nice to have a winger who can run and cross but they generally don't play at this level.

Wouldn't go that far mate. Both are L1-L2 teams historically with Bradford having better support.

Except we've spent 13 years in the top flight, and they haven't won anything of any real significance.

Think he's the alternate to Sharp for us but believe Sharp and Woolford are done deals...

...know I said that about Sharp a while ago and am sticking by it for now.

*Woolford confirmed about 5 minutes later *

Marshall is a top man, and a good player at this level.

Does his fair share of defensive work but can also frustrate by running into blind alleys. Won us a few matches single-handedly but also faded badly towards the end of the season. We were over-reliantt on him though, so that probably took its toll towards the end.

You've got yourself a good player.

Expecting David Fox to sign for us this week now the Lundstram signing is dead in the water. Fox is a key signing for us if we're to have steel in that midfield.

The lack of ambition at board level stinks with them boocking the lundstram deal, but in the short term ive got a feeling fox is the better signing, we need experience, currently our oldest players are 26 and 24.

I could name at least five legitimate reasons as to why the board blocked that transfer. As critical as I've been of the club in the past they've made the right call this time.

But agree regarding Fox, the signing we badly need.

You'd think that about Wigan wouldn't you?

However it's blatantly obvious to see Whelan is trying to reclaim a lot of his money back. That said with the income Wigan have generated fees like this are chicken feed to them.

What is it, about £200k we get from that?

Nice, bet Bonser's just looked at an engine upgrade for his yacht.

Edit - quoting Jonny from UTS.

Initial Fee: £325,000
Promotion: £50,000
Appearances: £30,000
Sell On: £200,000

£605,000 from a striker that technically left on a bosman and only had 1 good season for us, with lots of penalties thanks to Brandy. £105k more than we got for Deeney.

Fully agree with both points, especially the first. Sensible decision by the board.

Why did the Crewe board block it? Too much money being paid to the player for not enough return down the line?

Fully agree with both points, especially the first. Sensible decision by the board.

The thing that's annoyed me is that certain fans within the fanbase have been quick to defend Davis after spending the great part of 12 months absolutely pillorying him all because he's whinged to the local rags and cried poverty without hearing the board's side of the story. I'd love the board to confirm my scepticism of the transfer publicly but sadly we'd be incredibly lucky to get such a response.

Resale Value - Davis' has a poor record of developing players and recent significant transfer outlay on imported players has seen us yield no returns save for Mathias Pogba (of which the profit was minimal)
Wages - A defensive midfielder of his young age should be nowhere near the highest paid player at the club.
Agent fee - Dangerous precedent when our own start to negotiate contracts in future, money reserved for players would fall into the wrong hands and we could end up losing a lot of players in the long-term.
All our eggs in one basket? - Is it wise to spunk an already limited budget on a midfielder who, despite his pedigree, doesn't score goals and plays more defensively? Sure he might be creative but there's just too much risk of him failing to advocate his signing.
Other areas - Why Steve keeps overlooking our defence I'll never know, to scapegoat our midfield for our failings over the last two years is lunacy. Harry Davis, George Ray and Jon Guthrie are not League One defenders and will only achieve competence if a chunk of the money after the Fox signing is allocated for an experienced CB in the Alan Tate mould.
The conceding first argument - Our young squad go 1-0 down against Port Vale on the opening day of the season. Will a 21 year old with limited Football League experience be the best influence to our young squad, or are we better off with a 31 year old midfielder and potential captain whose played in all the divisions and was a key player in Colchester's miraculous great escape last season? We've had so many problems from conceding the first goal in games the last two years that this really needs to be rectified to make our goal difference at least semi-respectable.

Steve needs to value experience in the squad more. Harry Davis, Marcus Haber and Billy Bingham are our most experienced players across defence, attack and midfield currently. The first two aren't leaders (don't care if Davis inevitably gets the armband, he doesn't take enough responsibility when the going gets tough) and with Bingham it would be unfair to judge him without seeing him play. Two old heads are needed badly.

I find it bizarre too for pretty much the same reasons you do. But I also find funny is:

Greg Leigh. Wants too much, Davis says no, everyone seems to accept it.
Jamie Ness. Wants too much, Davis says no, everyone seems to accept it.
John Lundstram. Wants too much, Davis says yes, board say no, everyone goes ballistic.

As you say though, the same fans that have done nothing but criticise him(rightly so I might add) for the last 12 months are now defending him against the board. Go figure. He's clever. He did it 12 months ago when he revealed that the board had cut his budget. Fans were sympathetic towards him then too. I trust their judgement over his at this point in time.

And to add to those legitimate points, he goes on to say "The board gave me a little more than what we originally budgeted for" at the end of the season too if what was said in the Chronicle/Sentinel was correct! He's bloody clever indeed.

My biggest fear is him neglecting the need to recruit experience at CB position. We know how highly he rates his own son and hardly chastises him for errors when Dugdale and Ellis in particular were crucified in comparison. He constantly referred to Harry's return as being pivotal when he came back from injury during the 9 defeats in 11 (we were still crap at the back when he came back). I just think we're very weak there compared to last season, Davis, Ray and Guthrie fill me up with no confidence whatsoever.

I know you've never rated Davis and thats fair enough. But I think once he was switched to CB not long after we came up from L1, he has proven on the whole to be a competent defender. Yes, he has his bad games and yes he has work to do on things like his heading etc, but generally, I think if you added up all the goals he was responsible for over the last 3 years, he would come up way short of the mistakes Ellis, Duggy and Ray have made. Yes, last season he was terrible up until the Sheff Utd game. But from then on, he(and Ray tbf) barely put a foot wrong. I mean, 8 goals conceded in our last 9 games(you've got to go back to the 02-03 promotion season for the last time we had that sort of record) with an iffy midfield and powder puff strike force for the most part is pretty impressive. I think this season is the true test of Harry. No Ellis to overshadow him with more noticeable performances, no injury, no dodgy Duggy. Like you say he'll probably get the captaincy, so now is his time to step up and prove he can marshall the back 4.

Oh and yey, really pleased Fox has been signed. Hopefully he'll slot into our midfield nicely.
