I know you've never rated Davis and thats fair enough. But I think once he was switched to CB not long after we came up from L1, he has proven on the whole to be a competent defender. Yes, he has his bad games and yes he has work to do on things like his heading etc, but generally, I think if you added up all the goals he was responsible for over the last 3 years, he would come up way short of the mistakes Ellis, Duggy and Ray have made. Yes, last season he was terrible up until the Sheff Utd game. But from then on, he(and Ray tbf) barely put a foot wrong. I mean, 8 goals conceded in our last 9 games(you've got to go back to the 02-03 promotion season for the last time we had that sort of record) with an iffy midfield and powder puff strike force for the most part is pretty impressive. I think this season is the true test of Harry. No Ellis to overshadow him with more noticeable performances, no injury, no dodgy Duggy. Like you say he'll probably get the captaincy, so now is his time to step up and prove he can marshall the back 4.

Oh and yey, really pleased Fox has been signed. Hopefully he'll slot into our midfield nicely.

With all that said though it'd be reassuring to have a fourth senior CB in the ranks and no one can argue with that. What happens if one of the current three gets injured? I don't want us to be loaning in a U21 CB who will get schooled by streetwise pros. Which is why I hope we sign Tate up as the most senior of all four CBs. Depth, experience and the fact he'll keep the others grounded and improve them.

Best signing we've done all Summer, will be joint along with an experienced CB should we sign one.

Very pleased with Fox, our midfield looks an awful lot better than mast seasons now. Next priority is a the defence, then il be fairly confident of a better season than the last.

Unsurprising that Wigan are chucking money at it, as they'll still be getting parachute payments for this season and the one after I believe.

Astonished no Championship clubs took a punt on Grigg. Good signing for Wigan.

They are making fairly sensible signings to be fair, players who have a track record in this league. They look the team to beat that's for sure.

The strongest squad on paper for sure. A strike force of Grigg, Davies, McKay, Holt and Waghorn at League One level should be guaranteed goals. Slightly worried for the 8th.

Personally think if you go down 2 levels the parachute payments should stop and be forced to live within your means which should be easily achievable for an ex Prem side in L1. That way you dont get teams bouncing back so easily and with a massive unfair advantage on the rest. You simply dont need that payment to survive as a L1 club!

Got to agree, parachute payments to a league 1 team seems ridiculous, just means there is no way other league 1 teams can compete with them financially.

Really looking forward to our defeat to Wigan on the 8th and with it the end of most of our fair-weather fan's season.

I would have thought MK would have gone for Grigg.

I guess Fat Karl's budget is really small this year.

We'll be signing Milan Lalkovic in the next 24 to 48 hours, happy with that, decent player but has consistency problems.

I for one would love to see us smash Wigan.

Won't happen, but it would be nice.

Colchester fan(s) (there's only one on here isn't there?), what's Craig Eastmond like? I'm guessing shit but as beggars can't be choosers, I'm hoping for a little ray of light.

He is alright. Solid enough and did a job but painfully slow and doesn't get forward much. He is very much an old fashioned right back. Im not surprised he is going as Kelly wants to play with wing backs and that system would not suit Wilson.

We're currently in talks with a central defender - and a deal has been put on the table. PP reckons we'll have a response by the weekend.

Scott Doe, David Wheater and Conrad Balatoni all linked.

However, every player we have signed thus far has come completely outta the blue. Something PP is particularly good at.

According to Sean Taylor, we're now interested in Coulibaly along with Peterborough and Port Vale.
