Would make sense if Crewe could actually fill any of their current stands. It's just petty as fuck. They're shooting themselves in the foot and losing a shit load of money. A guaranteed fully sold out stand, or about 100 Crewe dotted about in it? I can't ever remember going to Crewe away and us not having both stands, apart from the midweek relegation season game in 08?
I went a few times back before we used to get the stand behind the goal. Went in the side stand when Crewe effectively sent us down in 2000, we equalised then one of their lads scored a wonder goal. Your old man was with us that night. We only had the side in 2003 when Brisco equalised. They were filling it then, think they got promoted to the Championship that season. Before then it was before they built the main stand, so we only got 800 tickets in the Gresty Road End.

My first visit to Crewe wasn't until 2006 when George Abbey scored a cracker for us, so I would've missed all those before.

"not cost effective" to open another block for 200-300 in the same stand has to be complete bullshit.

It obviously is cost effective unless you get charged thousands of pounds to move some netting and sit another couple of stewards down.

MAYBE if it was a second stand which wasn't going to be filled, or the extra allocation is right by home fans I could buy it. But the Notts thing is a quite obvious lie from the club hence why all their fans on here assumed it was because they were petrified of large away followings giving away teams an advantage.

It's a cute excuse to blame vale when you've dicked about trying to limit big away followings. Crewe dicked about the other way and then looked a little daft when they only sold a few more.

We would have sold plenty more for Notts county and it makes no sense that vale would think otherwise.

So going back to your initial reply, it doesn't sound at all familiar does it?

I'm not entirely sure you are probably best checking with Valefan16 as he is the one who quoted Notts as another example on this subject.

Sounds like some similarities to me. One guaranteed consistency is fans moaning, rightly or wrongly, about the the away allocations they receive.

We allocate Crewe 3000 and in the past give them a stand that holds over 4000 and they usually bring 1300. We usually get given 2300 for Crewe and sell it out in about 3 days and could probably sell 3500ish. Id say fuck it if Crewe want a smaller away following there then let's give it them by no fucker buying tickets and have about 200 there. Vale should just advertise to have a beam back on at the ground for 5 quid and get 3000 watching that giving the money to vale than paying the ridiculous 29 pounds price all going towards Crewe.

It’s to do with the concourse under it rather than the actual seats. The way that stand was (badly) designed in the 90s is basically that it’s two different stands.

So beyond that certain number we have to open up and have stewards, catering, staff, power etc in the other half of the concourse, even if there’s just another block of 200 people. We also have to pay for the police to close the road after the match because it’s deemed unsafe for more than 2,000 or whatever the number is to leave with the road being open. It’s annoying but it is what it is, all due to decisions made 30 odd years ago.

It’s clearly not because we don’t want really big away followings as we’ll do it when clubs can fill or nearly fill the whole thing. We have for Mansfield, Wrexham, Coventry and others in the last few years.

Thankfully Jacob has explained the reality of the situation rather than the guesswork from afar.

In summary, it's not bullshit. It's not a lie. When a club can sell it out we are happy to give a large allocation and reep the financial benefits.

But why let the truth get in the way of a good informed rant.

Anyway this was all discussed at the time, the club didn't back their own support at the time and we're not confident of selling an extra 1000 which we are happy to give clubs that can sell them.

Any requests for a few hundred after that conversation is going to be a firm no. Didn't matter much the attendance was reported at a snip under 12,000 even with a reduced and limited away following.

Marvelous stuff.

fair enough, if it means they have to open up a whole new concourse then that's similar to it being a different stand altogether.

and it wasn't clear to Notts fans at the time that they didn't want bigger followings, it was you lot that said it!
