One of you will stay up, because we are 100% going down. You beat us, they beat us. Micky has royally messed it up by taking a wrecking ball to a problem that required skillful surgery. We needed 3 or 4 and signed about 12.

You beat Shrewsbury just the other week. You're capable of beating anyone on your day where as us and Cheltenham aren't.

Haha this is what it's came to for us both, talking about Shrewsbury as if they are Real Madrid.

One of us will probably be saying the same about Forest Green or Eastleigh this time next season.

Beating Shrewsbury means naff all if you lose to Cheltenham, Carlisle, York whilst also throwing a 2 goal lead away (again) with only 15 minutes to go. No offence to those clubs, but they are the ones around us. We can maybe (rarely) win a football match but we aren't winning a battle. Ever. We don't have it in us.

What makes it worse is that between Burton and Shrewsbury, you could pretty much make our first team up from Les Parry's days. What we wouldn't give for a McGurk or Lucas Akins now!

Well I think we could be just about alright now. 41 points leaves is with another 11 from 12 games to get to 52 and hopeful safety.

Cheltenham is one of the biggest games of our season, If we can hold out or win there we should be alright - lose and they are back within 4 points of Us and we all start again.

I was at the Tranmere away game and they were dire, seemed to have very little going for them. We don't have the best team clearly, but Troy - our massive centre-back - would walk into any team in this league and most of League 1 if he didn't have Ledley King's knees. We also have a young, hard-working strike force in Rigg and Wyke who have been unlucky not to score more goals recently. Young Kyle Dempsey captained us tonight at age 19 and did a stellar job, and Anthony Sweeney, who many Hartlepool fans seemed happy to be rid of, put himself on the line for the assist tonight going into the goal post. Barring any big injury problems (touch wood..) I think we'll be able to steer clear of relegation now. Cheltenham were terrible, Tranmere were terrible, Hartlepool were horrific first time we played them (3-0 at their place). There's just enough teams worse than us, and I think it'll be Cheltenham and Hartlepool going down.

We've won the hard one, going to Cheltenham and losing will be just our luck. Can we do 3 wins on the bounce? Muzza is left with a dilemma now, does he go with the side who won last night or bring the likes of Oliver and Sutton back into the squad. What a massive win and yet still some of our fans won't get behind Adam Murray!

After some seriously shit away showings its nice to know that Murray had it in him to change things around and play alright.

Sounded like we were pretty fortunate but we've had some real bad luck of late and its nice to see it change.

Realistically we need 3 wins and a draw from 12 games to see us onto 51 and probable safety, though I'm hoping we can get a little more than that.

We mustn't lose to cheltenham on Saturday though

A win last night was great, but we definitely need more and quickly. We are the second lowest scorers in the league and we have still been horrific away, with just 3 wins all season. A quick glance at the table appears to show that only Hartlepool have been poorer away this season than us. I hope we have turned a corner.

Probably three of the most important points of our season last night, keeps the gap at a manageable distance when a defeat would have dragged us to three points clear of the drop. Follow it up with a draw at the weekend against Tranmere and I'd probably settle for that - amazed at how poor they've been actually, maintained that with Micky Adams leading them they'd be fine, starting to feel a little unsure about it now!

Are we going to just have a big game of swapping places with one another until the end of the season now then?

i'll take 17th if you are ok with 18th! ;)

I think we'd both be very happy with that deal ;) Already looking forward to getting knocked out of the League Cup at the 1st round stage next year.

There will be plenty more twists and turns yet, it might even be the case that Cambridge or somebody will drop right into it. Mansfield certainly aren't safe, we need to work hard for every point as everybody else are doing. I'd take a draw at Cheltenham, just don't want to lose.

I don't wish relegation to the conference on any club, I just don't want it to be mine.

There are some positives though, plenty of new grounds, usually very friendly, you feel a massive club when your packing our shitty away ends that can't cope with your massive following, ha! You'll also win loads more games and will always be hunting for promotion, unless you go bust or your a Lincoln fan.

Don't dress it up Stoney, there are no positives about being in the conference. It is hell.

Maybe the first season you're down there provided you go straight back up, and maybe a few years ago.

When we went down it was ridiculous how 'big' a club we seemed to be in comparison to some of the other clubs down there, we set a few attendance records which have probably since been broken by the likes of Oxford and Bristol Rovers. There was only Us, York and Exeter down there with any kind of Football League pedigree (Halifax may disagree). Several clubs had a total season's attendance across 21 home games that were lower than our average attendance (which was admittedly about double what it is now)

Not like that now though.

Agreed, when we played alfreton away and won 6-3 (they are about 4 miles away) we had beaten barrow 7-0 the Saturday before. We had 1,950 sold out in their away end, several hundred (half of one of their stands went up when we scored) in the home end and the total attendance 3,354 and was alfretons biggest gate in about 50 years.

That's the conference for you

I never want to have to play in that hellhole again, there is nothing good about it, nothing.

Except Barrow away.

I don't know what it is about Barrow.

I think the place is so absolutely and completely shit, that it actually becomes good. We really had a good few weekends there

I'm not sure that that was really the case. Your average attendance that season was about 6500 IIRC. Divided by 21 that comes to just under 600. The only teams in the Conference that season I can think of who would have had lower average attendances would have been Canvey Island and Leigh RM. Neither of whom are anywhere near the Conference now.

Yeah that was my point, that was back then, I know Leigh's total attendance was under it, or if not under our average then at least under several of our higher attendances. Can't find it now but I remember looking at it and thinking we've had loads of individual attendances higher than that. But it's not like that though, I put that in for contrast with what it was like last time we were down there.

Wasn't it Leigh that only took 1 fan somewhere?

I bet carlisle must have had some low away followings to brunton park - the lowest at field mill was grays - who managed 8

It was Leigh who only took one fan to several matches that season.

I remember having 2 sides and abit of the 3rd at Tamworth and they made out we only had 800 there in the Play off season!

I love Tamworth away!

This.

Last time was okay, but it is so bad now.

Each time I look at the weekend fixtures I get sad we aren't in L2 anymore - away days are so much better when you've actually heard of the place you're going to..

Tamworth was good.

I think they said there was 909 in a crowd of 1,600 but they later corrected it to something like 1,500 in a crowd of 2,200 :fl:

Never remember though, was always bladdered by the time we got there, the pubs were ace
