Hartlepool will beat Accrington.

Accrington have absolutely nothing to play for now, there'll be no mistakes from Hartlepool here.

They have to score a goal to beat them, could've still been playing now and they still wouldn't have scored today.

Accrington have the joint worst defence in league 2. Anyone can score against them.

Apparantly we were awful today, just as Carlisle were at Accy, I'm sure lessons have been learnt, but being a realist , if you can't beat the likes of a nothing to play for Accrington side then can you really complain if your relegated?

Feel gutted and deflated after yesterday and it felt like a hammer blow. I think the unfortunate Southend defeat has taken a bit out of the players as we didn't really have the conviction to score yesterday when it was there for the taking.

We really threw away three points yesterday. Accrington is absolutely vital and if we don't win regardless of the Tranmere result, I think we're going down. It's that big.

I wasn't expecting us to get anything at Southend, so by that logic im actually fairly content with that round of fixtures. Expected Pools to get at least a point if not all three so themselves and Cheltenham losing was a bonus. As you were, except for a huge win for Carlisle. Mansfield would require us to score a goal to drag them into trouble, which is a fairly big ask with Cole Stockton up front.

York were terrible and were there for the taking, especially after the red card.

It's just a shame we were even worse.

Can't dwell on it now , great chance to get 6 points before Carlisle which hopefully will be enough

I think we will get 3 points from the next 3 games. I reckon we'll beat Stevenage or Plymouth, which would see us safe.
Funny thing is, as bad as we are, Tranmere and Hartlepool seem to be just as bad, and even if we lost all of our last four as HG says will happen; in order to overtake us they would both have to either win two from their last four, or go unbeaten in four (a win and three draws = 6 points, though Hartlepool could maybe get away with 5 points provided their one defeat isn't to us).

There's an outside chance one of them might do that, but both? We're so bad we're going to lose the last four yet two teams who are just as bad get some good results? They might have easier run-ins than we do but they're still playing teams that we weren't good enough to beat so why assume that they're going to do so well?

And then what if we do nick a point in one of our remaining games? Now Tranmere need 7 points, which means they can only afford one more defeat and Hartlepool would definitely need 6.

Carlisle are almost there, things will be whole lot clearer after Tues , surely Mansfield can't lose again!

2 more points would see us safe. It's just our horrendous run in that's going to cost us, that's why I said we needed 6 points from the last 3 games MINIMUM. We only got 4 and it will cost us I fear.

We can. As I have reiterated in this thread many times, just get a set piece anywhere near our goal and you'll probably score. Then you don't really have to worry because we'll huff and puff but not actually come close to picking up any points as we can't score. I'd take a 0-0 if you offered it me now just to keep the gap with less games to play.

Which games do you see Hartlepool and Tranmere picking up points in?
Tranmere - Mansfield and Oxford. I can even see them picking up something against bury if bury are secure in the playoffs and taking their foot off for the big games.

Hartlepool - Accrington and Carlisle. They'll probably get something off Exeter as well if they have nothing to play for. In fact luton's home form gives them hope for that fixture. Hartlepool have a great chance imo and we know they are capable of stringing 4 or 5 results together. I don't expect them to win all 4 but they've a good chance in every remaining game

And you're certain are you that they both win both those games? Because they need to. They certainly have a chance to win any game, but for the teams second and third from bottom to both win half their remaining fixtures is a tall order.

As I said last night, we're not nailed on to go down now. We've been given a chance now, but we're going to be relying on other teams failing to win winnable games.

I still think we're likely to go down.
Do you honestly think we're safe?

Hellogregory, I would hope Carlisle take this little momentum into the Burton game

I'd guess two from three now, but some unexpected results on Tuesday night and you never know, midweek games seem to have a habit of throwing up the old ridiculous result.

Having seen Carlisle yesterday...I have to say the teams below them must be awful. Don't get me wrong we were a shambles and they deserved to win yesterday, but it was one of the worst games I've seen in L2 ever I reckon. I haven't had the fortune of seeing Cheltenham play this season, but they must be particularly bad to be that rooted to the bottom of the table, although again, one win (although it doesn't look likely at the moment), and they have hope going into the final three.

Sorry to everyone down there for being utter shit yesterday and fielding two fullbacks who have barely played a half between them in the last three months, I wasn't particularly over the moon with it either.

It's not either-or, I've said several times on this forum that we're not safe but I think we're more likely to survive than go down now. To say otherwise would be to say that two from either Hartlepool, Tranmere or Cheltenham are more likely to survive than go down, which sounds to me like an utterly mad thing to say.

It's a funny old game. We've played better than we did yesterday and lost or drawn on several occasions this season. Most recently home to Morecambe, but also home to Shrewsbury. And we were just as poor as we were yesterday if not worse when we beat Cheltenham 1-0 a couple months back.

Things like this always remind me of when we beat Stevenage 3-0 earlier in the season and most of the Carlisle fans agreed there was nobody in this division worse than Stevenage are.

The odds I saw this morning had Carlisle at 18/1 for relegation. I'd say that looks about right.

Probably not the place for this, but I have to say I absolutely loved Carlisle's ground, well half of it. The big home terrace looked criminally underused and is a proper throwback, and the grandstand on the far side with terracing and seating on the upper is brilliant.

Would have been a terrible shame to lose that to non-league football. Just hope as I've said before in this thread that people start to embrace the football club, new supporters and old ones that haven't been over in a while. They contribute so much to the community and for me just a shade over 3000 seems criminal for a club like Carlisle.

It does look good when full. But with a capacity of 18,202 (about half and half seated and standing) that happens once in a blue moon. It was full when Leeds visited in League 1 in 2001 and close to full when Spurs visited in the League Cup a couple of seasons ago. Realistically about 9,000 is what we can hope for as a regular attendance if all goes well and the fans flock back... maybe 10,000 if things go really well.

I don't understand why a lot of our fans are writing off Hartlepool at home. They've lost 3 on the bounce now, and we've already beaten them 3-0 away this season.

Plymouth are 50/50, we have a chance of at least a point against them.

I don't think we'll go down, and I don't think Tranmere or Hartlepool will get more than 46. 1 more win for us should be enough.

This is why I tipped Hartlepool to not stay up so long ago. It's not just about catching the pack, it's very difficult to then pull away after all the initial efforts. They still may do it since Tranmere and Cheltenham are utter dross but just 2 dodgy results recently and they're in the thick of it again.

I don't think either yourselves or Mansfield will go down, Tuesday could possibly send fans of the two clubs into a mad panic, if results go against them.

I'm worried. I just want to get Tuesday night over and done with, pick at least a point up and look forward to another season in this rubbish league.

We do actually deserve to go down, we are awful!

If we have nothing to play for then I'd back us to do something, but if something is riding on it, we'll lose. We have the most gutless, spineless bunch of players I've ever seen, they'd shit themselves with the pressure. Look at yesterday, look how comfortable we were, then we shit our pants and were lucky not to throw it away.

Was that not down to Curle's tactics though? Potts should have done much better towards the end, several chances to counter but he gave it away and we remained under pressure.

Was ridiculous how much unnecessary pressure we came under. Not the first time this season either.
