Don't want to be rude but the only thing that interests me right now is seeing Carlisle survive. That way, we'll have 3 CUFC's next year in League 2. Can't wait for the thread titles. CUFC's vs CUFC's MK1, CUFC's vs CUFC's MK2 and so on.
Can I put the official claim for us to be primary CUFC team in now as we were founded first. You get CUFC2 and Colchester get CUFC3.

We would be pushing to claim CUFC2. We've only been CUFC since 1951 (previously Abbey United) but Colchester were in the league by then and had been around since 1937.

But we're clearly the best CUFC so I think we ought to take the much coveted primary status here. :lac:

How about a mini league next season between the three of us. First, second and third place get CUFC, CUFC2 AND CUFC3 respectively the season after next assuming we're all still in this league.

I'm happy with that order. Colchester were formed first, but what kind of fools go from Town to United? Hmm. Then again, their neighbours in the county town went for City a good forty years before they got city status...

Ho hum.

What kind of reading comprehension suggests that's what he said?

Statement: ''We're hard working''
Example given : ''Going on strike''
Going on strike = Refusing to work.

I'm not trying to be political about it, surely I don't need to explain why saying you are both hard working and yet refuse to work is a contradiction?

When your workplace gets shut down it doesn't matter how hard-working you are if there's no jobs left.

You can't be on strike if you don't have a job, but I understand the sentiment of what you're getting at.

It just seems a daft situation when supporters of a town's football team (in this case, Mansfield) constantly live with dogs abuse for having the temerity to go to work when everyone else was busy trying to club policemen to death throughout the North. Which is all beside the point that there will be few on this forum who were old enough to experience it, let alone being able to look at the matter through a spectrum of neutrality (as I attempt to, empircally).

Regardless of that, the issue at large is one that scars our country to this day, and it is easy to understand why it is such a divisive matter at large, particularly for those in ares (e.g. the north-east) who've grown up with the bitterness, anger and fallout, whether legitimate or misdirected.

In general my angle on it is this: The more people fight over the small boat a lot of us are in, the more they're missing the chance to ride the luxury liner.

Anyway, this is pretty much all I'm saying on the matter!

How about a mini league next season between the three of us. First, second and third place get CUFC, CUFC2 AND CUFC3 respectively the season after next assuming we're all still in this league.

Are you sure this is wise after results this year? ;)

That is definitely making my top 5 obscure insults I've received.

Haven't given any opinion on the old girl (!) and really don't want to go down that road either, I was only mentioning the hard working thing until WW3 kicked off! :shut:

Take it as an insult or otherwise. It was my reaction to what you considered "impartial" e.g. ".....everyone else was busy trying to club policemen to death throughout the North." and the belief that someone who goes on strike loses the right to be considered hard working.

Shall we leave it there?

Yes, as the first point you've highlighted is quite clearly facetious.

The second part you mention is broadly right, although that is down to my position on striking in general, and not anything to do with what I feel about Thatcher.

I'm happy to leave it there, as long as it's clear what I've actually said isn't a slight on either party/region, nor has anything to do with Thatcher or taking sides in the miners dispute.

I'd just add before this becomes a Mansfield bash-athon that it can't be easy having your livelihood threatened, especially in the days before the service industry and the potential for new jobs to replace those lost down the mines existed in the North. When you've got one eye on where your kids are going to work when they grow up and the other eye on where you're going to get the money to feed them this week you can't really blame anyone for the course of action they chose to take, whether they thought they should stand up for themselves and their future or whether they thought they should knuckle under and make sure this week's wage slip arrives.

The reason we go to the football though is to put stuff like that behind us.

The people of Mansfield did nothing wrong, nor did those in nottinghamshire. That those of the North East, Yorkshire or South Wales were led by some brain washed madman in scargill was a travesty in itself.

That scum and scrotes were allowed to picket the mines in the first place is unacceptable - the people that give us abuse should be looking at the flawed practice, over strength of the unions and inefficiency of the mines instead of picking faults at the people that did the right thing.

Well, relegation to the Conference was introduced during the Thatcher years, if there's any connection.

Thatchers to blame for most things, and if she's not then she probably still is.

I am of an age to remember it and many of the people it effected. I'm not getting involved in any of this as its a football forum but I find some of that post offensive.

Both Cheltenham and Hartlepool have to win to keep us involved, and we'd have to lose too.

Fully expect us to get beat off Luton today, we never do well there and they need the points today too. Also expect to be back in the relegation zone tonight. This is maybe Cheltenham's and certainly Tranmere's best chances of three points before the end of the season.

Fancy at least one of them to win.

You've been embarrassing poor for a professional football club playing league football, you got hammered by part timers... You will only stop up because of other teams. You're simply not good enough and deserve to go down. Never seen such an amateurish team in the football league.

Where to start with this? At least Adam Stag, who does come across as a pompous get, at least gives you something worthwhile reading. You on the other hand...
Hammered by part timers? Stop being a drama queen. We lost 2-1 in the last minute. Disgraceful, yes it is, hammered no it's not. Anyway, how many times were the mighty Mansfield hammered by part-timers in their Conference days? :bg:
Yes we will stay up because of two other teams being shitter who finish below. Would you be saying the same to Tranmere or Cheltenham fans too? If you finish 22nd in L2 that's generally what happens is it not? This league is shit pal, it's full of shit, barely professional in standard sides, such as yours who are obviously so superior to us that we took 4 points off you. It's the 4th tier of English football. What do you expect from it? Free flowing football, big names? On that score your side must rate as the antipathy of that.

There's plenty of part timers waiting to beat you in the conferencd, it's grim, proper shit. You might find out soon.

And not pompous, just I try to know the subject before I post - doesn't always work out that way.

Though I might not miss certain sides if they went down Id never wish relegation to the conference on anyone. It's worse than you can possibly imagine

:bg: That is quite a pompous thing to say, but I digress....

Yes we may well go down, I'm quite prepared for that. It will not be a shock and if we do we will definitely have deserved it. No one is disputing that.

Mansfield and Pools have never really got on but that's just life. Anyway, I'm sure you'd be delighted for us if we stayed up.

Today I think Tranmere will get a win at home to Oxford, and if they don't they're as good as down, in my opinion. Cheltenham might get a point, but I still think they'll get beat by Northampton. And Pools, I can't see past a Luton win.

For us, I think we'll get at least a draw, but hopefully we grab the 3 points.
